New uroflowmetry technique measuring hydraulic pressure for prostate diagnostics (전립선 진단을 위한 수압 측정 방식의 새로운 요 유량 계측기법)

  • Uroflowmetry is non-invasive and easily performed to diagnose benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) frequent in aged men. Weight change during urination is usually measured to estimate the urinary flow rate by a load cell, but sensitive to any impacts against the bottom of the container, leading to unnecessary noise generation. Moreover, load cells are relatively expensive raising the production cost. The present study proposed a new technique, measuring hydraulic pressure on the bottom of the urine container to evaluate the urinary flow rate. Low cost pressure transducer enabled almost perfectly linear relationship between the urine volume and the hydraulic pressure. During both the simulated and human urination experiment, variance of the pressure signal was more than 50 % smaller than the weight signal acquired by a load cell, which demonstrated that the impact noise was decreased to a great degree by pressure compared to weight measurement.

  • This study analyzed the fluid state around a container crone according to a wind direction when a wind load was applied to a container crone. The container crane for this research is a model of a 50-ton class used broadly in the current ports. The dimension of an external fluid field set up diameter, 300m, height, 200m. This study considered the change of a wind velocity according to an altitude in a criterion of a wind velocity, 50m/s, applying a power series law. An incident angle applied to an interval of 30 degrees in $0^{\circ}{\sim}180^{\circ}$ and this study carried out a computation fluid dynamics using a CFX-10. In this study, we indicate the wind pressure according to the height and section figure of each member. In addition, we suggest the wind pressure accordint to a wind direction. And we will analyze the structure stability of a container crone from the fluid-ductile analysis in the next study.

An air flow resistance model for a pressure cooling system based on container stacking methods (차압예냉에서 청과물 상자의 적재방법에 따른 송풍저항 예측모델 개발)

  • The capacity of a pressure fan can be designed based on the air flow resistance of containers packed with fruits and vegetables in a pressure cooling system. This study was conducted to develop an air flow resistance model that was dependent on changes in the air flow rate and the method of stacking containers. The air flow resistance of a container packed with uniformly shaped balls was 1.5 times greater than the sum of the air flow resistance of a vacant container and that of a wire net container packed with only balls. In addition, the air flow resistance increased exponentially as the width of the stacks increased; however, the air flow resistance did not increase greatly as the length and height of the stacks increased, which indicates that the air flow resistance is primarily influenced by the width of the stack in the air flow direction. The air flow resistance in two lines of stacking was up to 17% less than that of the width of the stack. It was also possible to determine the air flow resistance using a function of the air flow resistance through a single container and develop a prediction model. A prediction model of air flow resistance that is dependent on the stacking method and the air flow resistance of a single container was developed.

A Study on the Natural Evaporation Capacity of LPG Container (액화석유가스 용기의 자연 증발량에 관한 연구)

  • The number of gas containers and the period of exchanging gas containers are vsy important in designing liquefied petroleum gas(LPG) supply system for small capacity domain. And also the evaluation of remaining LPG in containers to be exchanged is very useful information in commerce. However seldon has been studied on calculating method about those with respect to gas consumption pattern. In this study, a simulation method was developed to estimate the evaporation capacity of LPG container, the mass gas flow rate from LPG container, the temperature and vapor pressure of LPG, and the remained LPG at containers to be exchange by using LPG property equations, mass balance equation, and heat balance equation. The simulation results were correlated well with experimental data. The overall heat transfer coefficient from air to LPG is approximately $9{\~}13 kcal/m^2{\cdot}hr{\cdot}^{\circ}C$ and does not strongly affect on the evaporation capacity of LPG container. The mass gas flow rate from LPG container is constant when the vapor pressure of LPG is within pressure regulator's control range. While, out of range, it suddenly reduce to a evaporation rate which is balanced with heat transfer from air. The evaporation capacity of LPG container increased with surrounding temperature and the composition of propane, and decreased drastically with continuous gas consumption. The number of gas containers divided the number of houses using gas supply system was reduced by using automatic gas feeding device.

  • Fine metal (Au, Ag, Cu) wire was extruded with hydrostatic extrusion process in cold condition. A vertical type 900kN hydrostatic extruder has been developed. The extruder was facilitated with high pressure container which are available for hot and cold forming. The container endured 1400MPa internal pressure and extrusion ratio To was achieved in cold forming for Au fine wire which had $600{\mu}m$ diameter. In contrast to the conventional macroscopic-sized-billet fine-wire requires higher extrusion pressure and effect of friction is much more significant.

  • Recently, there has been an increase in the demand for natural gas as a source of clean energy, which has increased the demand for LNG carriers. However, LNG carriers require a capital investment to obtain equipment for the regasification process, which prevents fires and explosions. Thus, on account of NIMBY, a CNG carrier is suggested that eliminates the need for regasification equipment. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide emissions are more and more regulated by international conventions such as the Kyoto Protocol. Because of this, $CO_2$ carriers have also received international attention as a methodology to transport and store $CO_2$ cargoes. Several vessels or tanks to transport and store $CO_2$ gas have been studied in various countries. This paper proposes a conceptual design for a 20ft container shaped tank to effectively transport small cargoes of $CO_2$ and CNG. The proposed pressure vessel or tank will be carried by a conventional containership or special cargo ship. The influences of the design parameters for proposed pressure vessel or tank. Including the materials, scantlings, and shape of the pressure vessel, are studied theoretically and computationally.

An Investigation of Elementary School Teachers학 Conceptions on Buoyancy (부력 개념에 관한 초등학교 교사들의 이해도 조사)

  • Elementary school teachers' understandings about buoyancy were investigated through the questionnaire method. The questionnaire was composed of 4 questions on hydraulic pressure and 8 questions on buoyancy. The questions on buoyancy asked about the correlation of buoyancy with following basic concepts, density of liquid, volume of submerged object and so forth. 295 teachers on the 22 elementary schools in Busan, Yangsan and Gimhae were selected through random sampling method. The results of this study were summarized as follows: On the correlation of the magnitude and direction of hydraulic pressure with the depth of water, a large portion of the respondents had a scientific conception. But on the correlation of hydraulic pressure with density, the relatively small portion of them appeared to have a scientific conception. The respondents, on the whole, had a scientific conception about the correlation of buoyancy with density of liquid. But they seemed to have naive conceptions about the correlation of buoyancy with the volume of a submerged object and with the depth of water, the amount of water in container and the reduced amount of water by the object from container. We found that the respondents were context dependent and tended to search for solutions for the questions of buoyancy using the concept of pressure in the water. From above results, we suggested that in the would-be revised elementary science text book, the contents of pressure in the water should be introduced after the concept of weight in the water was gained.

Comparative study on the behavior of soil fills on rigid acrylic and flexible geotextile containers

  • Comparative study has been performed to investigate the behavior of dredged fills on rigid (Model 1) and flexible (Model 2) containers. The study was focused on the sedimentation of soil fills and the development of total stresses. Model 1 is made of an acrylic cylinder and Model two is a scale-size geotextile tube. Results indicate that for rigid containers, significant decrease of the sediment height is apparent during the dewatering process. On the other hand, because the geotextile is permeable, the water is gradually dissipated during the filling process on flexible containers. Hence, significant loss in the tube height is not apparent during the duration of the test. Pressure spikes are apparent on rigid containers during the filling process which can be attributed to the confining effect due to hydrostatic pressure. For the flexible containers, the pressure readings gradually increases with time during the filling process and normalize at the end on the filling stage. No pressure spikes were apparent due to the gradual dissipation of pore water pressure.

Prediction of Bow Flare Impact Pressure and Its Application to Ship Structure Design - Container Ship and PCC - (선수 플레어 충격압력 추정과 구조설계에의 응용 - 콘테이너선과 자동차 운반선 -)

  • In rough seas, bow-flare regions of the fine ships (container ship and PCC) are subject to high impact pressures due to the bow-flare slamming. And many ships suffer structural damages in that region, even though they were built under the bow structure strengthening rules of the ship classes. So, a new design method for bow-flare structure is highly required. In this paper, a new prediction method of the bow-flare impact pressure (in terms of equivalent static pressure) acting on the fine ships' bow is presented. This method is based on the 11 fine ships' damage analysis and the mechanisms of water entry impact and breaking wave impact. Calculation results of the bow-flare impact pressure and the shell plate thickness are shown and discussed. Through the example calculations, it was found that the present method is useful for the structure design of the fine ships' bow.
