液狀 燒結에 의한 ${\beta}$-SIC TiB$_2$系 導電性 複合體의 特性(Ⅱ) (Properties of ${\beta}$-SIC TiB$_2$ Electroconductive Ceramic Composites Densified by Liquid-Phase Sintering(Ⅱ))

  • The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed ${\beta}-SiC-TiB_2$,/TEX> electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as function as functions of the liquid forming additives of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed ${\alpha}$-SiC(6H), $TiB_2$,/TEX>, and YAG($Al_5Y_3O_{12}$) crystal phase. The relative density and the mechanical properties of composites were increased with increasing $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents in pressureless annealing method because YAG of reaction between $Al_2O_3$ was increased. The flexural strength showed the highest value of 458.9 MPa for composites added with 4 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives in pressed annealing method at room temperature. Owing to crack deflection, crack bridging, phase transition and YAG of fracture toughness mechanism, the fracture toughness showed 7.1 MPa ${\cdot}\;m^{1/2}$ for composites added with 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives in pressureless annealing method at room temperature. The electrical resistivity and the resistance temperature coefficient showed the lowest value of $6.0{\times}10^{-4}\;{\Omega}\;{\cdot}\;cm(25\'^{\circ}C}$ and $3.0{\times}10^{-3}/^{\circ}C$ for composite added with 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives in pressureless annealing method at room temperature, respectively. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature ranges from 25 $^{\circ}C$ to 700 $^{\circ}C$.

고온가압소결한 탄화규소의 집합조직 (Texture in hot-pressed silicon carbide)

  • $\alpha$ - 및 $\beta$-SiC를 출발원료로 하여 일축성형한 후 $1800^{\circ}C$에서 고온가압법으로 소결한 탄화규소에 나타난 우선방위의 정도를 X-ray pole figure analysis로 조사하였다. $\alpha$-SiC를 출발원료로 사용한 경우에 고온 가압소결 후 약한 집합조직을 보인 반면, $\beta$ - SiC를 출발원료로 사용한 경우 고온가압소결 후 강한 집합조직을 보였으며, 이 경우 ${\beta} {\rightarrow} {\alpha}$ 상변태에 기인한 이중미세구조를 나타내었다. 또한, 집합조직의 강도는 고온가압소결 후 행해진 열처리 조건에 따라서도 변화를 보였다.

  • Skutterudite $CoSb_3$ powders were produced by mechanical alloying (MA) of elemental powders using a nominal stoichiometric composition. Annealing of MA powders under specific condition led to a complete phase transformation to a semiconducting ${\delta}-CoSb_3$. Single phase $CoSb_3$ was successfully produced by vacuum hot pressing using MA powders without subsequent annealing. Phase transformations during mechanical alloying and hot pressing were systematically investigated using XRD and SEM. Thermoelectric properties as a function of temperature were evaluated for the hot pressed specimens and compared with results of analogous studies.

고온초전도 BSCCO 2223 선재간의 초전도 접합부 제조연구 (Fabrication of superconducting Joints Between PIT Processed BSCCO 2223 Tapes by Single and Multiple Press & reaction Annealing)

  • Superconducting joints between Bi-2223/Ag tapes are fabricated by a press & reaction anneal and a multiple press & anneal. The silver sheath was mechanically or chemically removed from one side of each tape without altering the superconducting core. The exposed superconducting core of the two tapes were brought into contact and pressed so as to form a lap joint. The joined tapes were then subjected to a series of different thermomechanical treatments to achieve optimum heat treatment condition. The result from transport measurements shows that critical current ($I_c$) transmitting through joined area reaches 9A, approximately 60% of the current capacity of the tapes themselves. The critical current through joined area was improved by repeated press and reaction annealing. Measurements of the current-voltage relationship were made with several configuration of the voltage probes to characterize the critical current variation and I-V curve along the joint. Also discussed are microstructural aspects of the superconducting joint.

기계적 합금화 p-type FeSi2의 플라즈마 용사 성형 및 열전 특성 (Thermoelectric Properties of p- type FeSi2 Processed by Mechanical Alloying and Plasma Thermal Spraying)

  • P-type $\beta$-FeSi$_2$ with a nominal composition of $Fe_{0.92}Mn_{0.08}Si_2$ powders has been produced by mechanical alloying process. As-milled powders were spray dried and consolidated by atmospheric plasma thermal spraying as a rapid sintering process. As-milled powders were of metastable state and fully transformed to $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase by subsequent isothermal annealing. However, as-thermal sprayed $Fe_{0.92}Mn_{0.08}Si_2$ consisted of untransformed mixture of $\alpha$-$Fe_2Si_{5}$ and $\varepsilon$-FeSi phases. Isothermal annealing has been carried out to induce transformation to the thermoelectric semiconducting $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase. Isothermal annealing at $845^{\circ}C$ in vacuum gradually led to the thermoelectric semiconducting $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase transformation, but some residual metallic $\alpha$ and $\varepsilon$ phases were unavoidable even after prolonged annealing. Thermoelectric properties of $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ materials before and after isothermal annealing were evaluated. Seebeck coefficient increased and electric conductivity decreased with increasing annealing time due to the phase transition from metallic phases to semiconducting phases. Thermoelectric properties showed gradual increment, but overall properties appeared to be inferior to those of vacuum hot pressed specimens.

  • Binary skutterudite $CoSb_3$ compounds were prepared by the arc melting and hot pressing processes and their thermoelectric properties were investigated in the range from 300 to 600 K. Annealing effect was correlated to phase transformation and homogenization. Thermoelectric properties of the arc-melted and hot-pressed $CoSb_3$ were discussed and compared. Undoped intrinsic $CoSb_3$ prepared by the arc melting showed p-type conduction, while it showed metallic behavior with increasing measuring temperature. However, hot pressed specimens showed n-type conduction, possibly due to Sb evaporation. Thermoelectric properties were remarkably improved by annealing In vacuum and they were closely related to phase transformation.

  • 기계적 합금화 공정을 이용하여 제조한 $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$ 가압소결체의 가압소결온도에 따른 열전특성을 분석하였다. $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$ 가압소결체는 $300^{\circ}C$에서 $550^{\circ}C$ 범위의 가압소결온도에 무관하게 n형 전도를 나타내었다. $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})$ 합금분말을 (50% $H_2+50%$ Ar) 분위기에서 환원처리시, 분말 표면의 산화층 제거 및 과잉 Te 공격자의 소멸에 기인한 전자 농도의 감소로 가압소결체의 Seebeck 계수가 양의 값으로 변화하였다. $450^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서 가압소결시 가압소결온도의 증가에 따라 $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})$ 합금의 성능지수가 증가하였으며, $550^{\circ}C$에서 가압소결시 $1.92{\times}10^{-3}/K$의 최대성능지수를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 알루미늄 5052 합금의 탄성특성에 대한 ECAP 강소성변형과 어닐링효과를 연구하였다. 알루미늄 5052 합금은 용체화 처리 후 ECAP 가공하고 어닐링처리를 수행하였다. 탄성계수는 기존의 인장시험과 나노압입시험을 통해 측정하고 음향현미경의 음향재료신호를 이용하여 시료의 표변에서 탄성계수를 측정하였다. 기존의 시험법으로는 불가능한 소성변형과 열처리에 따른 탄성계수의 변화를 음향재료신호를 이용하여 성공적으로 측정하였고 개개의 결정립에서도 결정방위에 의존하는 탄성계수를 얻었다.

Characteristics of Heat Shrinkable High Density Polyethylene Crosslinked by ${\gamma}$-Irradiation

  • The effects of ${\gamma}$-irradiation on the crosslinking of high density polyethylene (HDPE) was investigated for the purpose of obtaining a suitable formulation for heat shrinkable materials. In this study the HDPE specimens were prepared by blending with cross linking agents and pressed into a 0.2 mm sheet at 18$0^{\circ}C$. ${\gamma}$-irradiation was conducted at 40 to 100 kGy in nitrogen. The heat shrinkable property and thermal mechanical property of the HDPE sheets have been investigated. It was found that the degree of crosslinking of the irradiated HDPE samples were increased with irradiation dose. Compared with the HDPE containing triallylisocyanurate, the HDPE containing trimethylol propane triacrylate shows a slight increase in crosslinking density. The heat transformation and dimension change of HDPE decreased with increasing radiation dose. The heat shrinkage of the samples increased with increasing annealing temperatures. The thermal resistance of HDPE increased upon the crosslinking of HDPE.
