  • The purpose of this study was to develop a scale for evaluation of premarital preparation. The subjects were 412 married couples(196 males and 216 females) who had been married for 1-37ears. They were selected from Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Gwangju, Pusan, and DaeGu. The questionnaire was composed of 82 items. The data was analyzed by frequencies, percentages, factor analysis, Pearson's r, and Cronbach'$\alpha$. The major findings were as followings; 1. The 54 items of 82 items scale were selected through item discriminant method. The discriminant coefficients of the items(Cromer's V ranged from .33 to .68. 2. The 7 factors that were extracted from the factor analysis explained 42% of premarital preparation. The subscales were labelled as rearing child$.$financial management role division, maturity, understanding each other$.$love$.$sex, views about marriage, understanding his/her family and friends, capacity of communication and conflict resolution, and independence from parents. The criterion validity of this scale was assessed by the correlation between this premarital preparation scale and marital stability. All coefficients were significant(ranged from r=.10 to .44, p<.01, p<.001). 3. The internal consistency of this scale was acceptable(Cronbach's $\alpha$=.91).

  • Purpose: Learning physiological concepts and their practical applications in the appropriate contexts remains a great challenge for undergraduate medical students. Hence the present study aimed to analyze the learning experience of undergraduate medical students during an active learning process of 'preparation of models' depicting physiological concepts. Methods: A total of 13 groups, involving 55 undergraduate medical students with three to five individuals in each group, were involved in model preparation. A total of 13 models were exhibited by the students. The students shared their learning experiences as responses to an open-ended questionnaire. The students' responses were analyzed and generalized comments were generated. Results: Analysis of the results showed that the act of 'model preparation' improved concept understanding, retention of knowledge, analytical skills, and referral habits. Further, the process of 'model preparation' could satisfy all types of sensory modality learners. Conclusion: This novel active method of learning could be highly significant in students' understanding and learning physiology concepts. This approach could be incorporated in the traditional instructor-centered undergraduate medical curriculum as a way to innovate it.

  • In this study, the Ni-based catalysts for the production of synthetic natural gas were prepared by various preparation methods such as the co-precipitation, precipitation, impregnation and physical mixing methods. The ranges of the reaction conditions were the temperatures of 250~$350^{\circ}C$, $H_2$/CO mole ratio of 3.0, the pressures of 1 atm and the space velocity of 20000 $ml/g_{-cat{\cdot}}{\cdot}h$. It was found that the catalyst prepared by precipitation method had higher CO conversion than the catalyst prepared by co-precipitation method. While the catalyst prepared by precipitation method had the formation of NiO structure, the catalyst prepared by co-precipitation method had the formation of $NiAl_2O_4$ structure. It was confirmed that Ni-based catalyst prepared by the physical mixing method had the lowest CO conversion because it was deactivated by the production of $Ni_3C$ during the methanation. As a result, it was shown clearly that Ni-based catalysts prepared by impregnation method expressed the highest catalytic activity in CO methanation.

  • Objectives : This study is performed to investigate the therapy on tinnitus through the literature of Eastern and Western medicine. Methods : This study review the definition, etiology, classification, internal and external methods of treatment of tinnitus based on 50 articles of Eastern medicine, 16 articles of Western medicine about the treatment of tinnitus. Results : The results were as follows. 1. In Eastern medicine, the cause and mechanism of disease of tinnitus arose from the state of qi-blood deficiency, internal dampness-heat and depression stagnation. In Western medicine, there are mainly caused by damage to the auditory system the lower induced changes in the upper. 2. In Eastern medicine, differentiation of syndromes classifies clinical aspects, and cause and mechanism of disease. In Western medicine, it divides into an generating region, clinical and associated symptoms aspects. 3. In Eastern medicine, internal method of treatments of tinnitus are divided into four treatments. In Western medicine, internal methods of tinnitus are vasodilators, blood-flow improvers, Metabolism improvers etc. 4. In Eastern medicine, external method of treatments of tinnitus are paste preparation method, powder preparation method, pill preparation method, acupuncture & moxibustion method. In Western medicine, external method of treatments of Tinnitus are divided into injection, other surgical therapies and adjuvant therapy. Conclusions : Until now, there is no perfect, effective single treatment. We think that Eastern medicine approach and treatment can be helpful to overcome the limitations of tinnitus cure.

  • Diphencyprone (DPCP) is frequently used as a compounded preparation in dermatology for the treatment of alopecia and recalcitrant warts based on the immune reaction of skin allergy. However, DPCP is a non-recognized agent in Pharmacopoeia, because there are no criteria or analytical method for quality control of its powder and formulation. DPCP is unstable under light irradiation because as it easily decomposes to diphenylacetylene (DPA). This study aims to develop a simultaneous HPLC analytical method for analyzing DPCP and DPA in the raw materials and compounded preparation. The method required a C18 column ($250{\times}4.6mm$, $5{\mu}m$) at $40^{\circ}C$ with a mobile phase of (A) 0.01 M phosphoric acid in water and (B) acetonitrile at UV 220 nm. DPA conversion to DPCP in the powder and compounded preparations was accelerated after light exposure for 60 min. In addition, this resulted in different patterns depending on the wavelength of light and the formulation. That is, DPCP in compounded preparation was more unstable than that in the powder. However, the DPCP formulation in amber bottles was observed to remain stable, although the measured concentrations of DPCP were somewhat different from the nominal concentration of the compounded preparations. The control of the exact concentration is required for effective disease treatment, depending on the state of the patient. In conclusion, these results will be useful for the recognition of DPCP in Pharmacopoeia and new DPCP formulation development to prevent photodecomposition.
