This study attempted to test the hypothesis that Korean evaluators can score L2 speech appropriately, even when speech rate features are unavailable. Two perception experiments-preliminary and main-were conducted sequentially. The purpose of the preliminary experiment was to categorize English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) speakers into two groups-advanced learners and lower-level learners-based on the proficiency scores given by five human raters. In the main experiment, a set of stimuli was prepared such that the speech rate of all data tokens was modified to have a uniform speech rate. Ten human evaluators were asked to score the stimulus tokens on a 5-point scale. These scores were statistically analyzed to determine whether there was a significant difference in utterance production between the two groups. The results of the preliminary experiment confirm that higher-proficiency learners speak faster than lower-proficiency learners. The results of the main experiment indicate that under controlled speech-rate conditions, human raters can appropriately assess learner proficiency, probably thanks to the linguistic features that the raters considered during the evaluation process.

한글 낱말의 처리단의를 검증하기 위해 3개의 실험을 실시 하였다.예비 실험과 실험1은 한음절 글자, 실험 2는 2음절 이상 글자에서의 처리단위를 밝혀보고자 하였다.예비실험에서,자음유형효과는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았으나 낱말 위치 효과는 유의미했다.Newman-Keuls 검증결과 초성조건과 중성조건간 차이는 유의미하지 않았으나 중성조건과 중성조건간의 차이는 유의미했다.실험 1에서는 낱자수가 증가함에 따라 반응시간도 증가했다.낱말 위치 효과는 예비실험과 동일했다.실험 2에서는 종성유무와는 관계없이 음절이 증가함에 따라 반응시간이 증가했다.본 연구의 시사점은 다음과 같다:(1)한 음절의 글자에서는 초성과 종성으로만 구성된 음절을 단위로 정보처리가 이루어지나 (2) 두 음절이상의 글자에서는 종성이 포함된 음절을 단위로 정보처리가 이루어진다.

Preliminary analysis on the modeling conditions and the simulation results is conducted only to evaluate the correctness of the simulation configuration further to apply for the LASGIT project. Except for the unrealistic modeling conditions for the relations of capillary pressure and relative permeability against water saturation used previously, the simulation results successfully demonstrate Helium propagation typical for two-phase flow. Further elaborated simulation with more realistic parameters should complete the weak points of the preliminary work.

In this paper, a direct drive scalar robot manipulator is constructed and its mechanical machanism for operation is explained. Also, a motion controller board for the direct drive robot manipulator was developed where the IBM 486 computer is the main controller. For the developed direct drive robot, a force/motion control algorithm based on an active compliance scheme is developed. A preliminary experiment using the developed direct drive for a peg-in-hole job was done by implementing the control algorithm.

Natural rivers have water purification functions called Gravel Contact Oxidation Process, which decontaminate river water by biological absorption, oxidation and degradation on riverbed gravels. This function has been developed and applied to many small/medium-sized urban rivers in Japan as one of the direct river water purification methods. However the method hasn't been verified in the tropics, which have different climate conditions and river characteristics. A preliminary experiment carried out at a polluted urban tributary in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where an increasing attention has been paid to river environment, showed a good applicability to the tropical conditions as a technically practical water purification measure with some maintenance cares for sludge management.

This study was carried out to P University of Education 111 students who participated in science materials study course 1 in spring semester 2011. Students have taken the course pre-service teachers of elementary school classes to target elementary school earth science field, they selected one of the sections to create a class and the students have fulfilled 15-minute classes in respectively from the first week of May 2011 to until end of that course. In this class, colleagues evaluated the classes and we used evaluated scores to determine level of instructional motivation strategy. The obtained results from this study are as follows; First, motivational strategies used by preliminary elementary school teacher were questions, presentation of pictures and photographs, storytelling, presentation of contradictory concepts and phenomena, pilot experiments Second, among preliminary elementary teachers' motivational strategies for teaching in the field of the earth storytelling, presenting contradictory phenomena and concepts, pilot experiment, presentation of contradictory concepts, questions got higher scores in the order. Third, storytelling received the highest scores by the evaluators. So we can consider storytelling as a good strategy for the next class. In particular, storytelling used by animism were more effective. Fourth, preliminary elementary school teachers used life knowledges and dairy experiences as instructional motivation.
