  • Utilizing the theory of ship motions, the effect of fin stabilizer on the roll motion has been investigated. From the analysis, a general design procedure has been derived for a particular ship in specific operational condition and sea states. Finally, a working example has been given to show how the introduced method could be applied in practical design.

FE Model Based Parametric Study Support System

  • In preliminary ship design, a parametric study is a more realistic way to explore design space and analyze design problem than an optimization technique due to time-consuming computational work or a difficulty in incorporating all constraints into the optimization formulation. In the parametric study, feasible alternatives are examined in various aspects; the best one can be selected. Among the aspects, the strength assessment by FE analysis is an essential process in the ship design. This paper proposes a system to facilitate a parametric study for FE model based on design of experiment (DOE). It works on a FE pre-processor environment and assists a user to define a parametric study by interacting with FE model. It also provides an interface module with a FE solver in order to control the input file and extract predefined FE results from the output file. Based on the proposed system, a better understating and a better design are expected to be achieved.

선박 초기설계에 FBS 설계 모델의 응용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application of FBS Design Model to Preliminary Ship Design)

  • The design process becomes more difficult due to the increasing complexity of products. Thus, without any proper design experience, designer cannot handle his design problems systematically. Besides, the conventional optimal design method cannot be used effectively at the early design stage, since most design problems must be formulated in terms of objective and constraint functions based on the mathematical concepts of Operation Research. Thus, in this paper, new design concept based on FBS (Function-Behavior-Structure) design model is introduced to help the novice designer formulate the complex design problems systematically into a mathematical form. In this FBS model, function means the designer's new intents designer wants to create for, structure stand for a final product configuration and behaviour is a product's performance. FBS design model is thus rather totally different concept used for formulating design problem, compared with conventional optimal design method. To validate this new FBS model, 330K VLCC design case is performed, and we found, though it is one design example case, that this new design concept could be effectively used for future ship design problems since, during the formulating design problem, the only engineering terminology such as function, structure, and behaviour of design product is used based on the engineering concepts, instead of mathematical terminology such as objective and constraints.

  • 선박자동식별장치(Automatic Identification System, AIS)는 선박의 정보를 자동으로 송수신하는 장치로 선박에 탑재된다. 연안 인근 선박의 AIS 정보는 지상에서 수신 가능하지만, 50해리 이상의 먼 해상으로 나가게 되면 지상과 통신이 두절되는 한계점을 가진다. 이를 해결하기 위해 AIS 수신기를 탑재한 AIS 위성을 통하여 먼 해상의 선박 정보를 지상으로 전송할 수 있다. 국내에서는 아직 AIS 위성 개발 사례가 없으며, 국내 다수의 선사는 해외의 AIS 서비스를 이용하고 있다. PNUSAT-1은 부산대학교에서 개발 중인 1U+ 큐브위성으로, 선박 모니터링을 위해 AIS 수신기를 탑재하여 선박 정보를 지상으로 전달하는 임무를 수행한다. PNUSAT-1은 임무 데이터가 텍스트 형태로 큰 용량의 데이터를 전송하지 않으므로 이에 부합하는 통신 장비, 저정밀 센서 및 구동기를 선택하였다. 본 논문에서 PNUSAT-1의 시스템 예비 설계를 수행하였으며, 임무 수행을 위한 요구사항, 운용 시나리오 및 모드 설계, 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어 선정 그리고 각 서브시스템의 예비설계를 수행하였다.

  • Due to many obvious reasons, an effort has been made for a long time by naval architects to develop mathematical hull forms or to express them mathematically. As a part of such effort, this program has been developed, applied in actual design works and proved to be a powerful tool of generating ship hull in the preliminary design stage.

  • In the Department of Naval Architecture, Seoul National University, the development of computer programs for the computer-aided ship design sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology has been begun. The project is to be accomplished as a four-year plan, and the results of the works of the first year, preliminary design of dry-cargo ships based on an optimization technique and some fundamental calculations accompanied with the basic design of ships such as calculations of displacement, hydrostatic characteristics of hull forms, stability, floodable length, load line and longitudinal section modulus, are given in the Report R-72-9[9] published by the sopnsor for the public interests. In this paper, the philosophy and methodological principles with which the preliminary design program given in Appendix II was developed are summerized.

선체 구조설계를 위한 지식 베이스 전문가 시스템 (Knowledge-based Expert System for the Preliminary Ship Structural Design)

  • 본 논문은 선박의 초기설계와 중앙단면 설계용 지식베이스 시스템을 개발하고 지식공학이 선체구조 설계 분야에 매우 효율적으로 적용될 수 있음을 검토하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 첫째 구조설계에 적합한 지식베이스 전문가 시스템 개발용 도구(tool)인 E.1을 개발하였다. E.1은 C언어로 작성되었고 구조설계 과정을 효율적으로 뒷받침해주기 위해서 자동 반복 계산과 재추론 기능을 갖고 있다. 둘째 살물선의 초기설계시 주요치수 추정과 중앙단면 설계를 위한 지식베이스를 개발하였다. 이 지식베이스들은 통계적 경험식, 선급 규정, 경험적 지식 등을 rule, fact, table로 표현하여 구성하였다. 셋째 지식베이스의 추론을 통하여 중앙 단면 최적 설계 프로그램의 입력 자료를 생성하고 최적화 프로그램을 수행시키는 통합(hybrid) 시스템을 구축하였다. 넷째 보강판 설계용 지식베이스 시스템을 개발하기 위해 최적화 결과의 회귀분석을 이용하는 간이 설계법을 적용해 보았다. 이 시스템을 사용하여 살물선과 보강판의 설계과정을 보이고 그 결과를 검토해 보았다. 앞으로 E.I와 성능 개선과 더 우수한 지식베이스가 축적됨에 따라서 선체 구조설계에 사용되는 기존의 CAD 시스템의 성능이 크게 보완될 것으로 기대된다.

실적 함정의 중량추정 분석 연구 (A Study on the Analysis of the Weight Estimation of Built Naval Ships)

  • In this study, the estimating weight data of eight leading ships of Korea navy were processed by comparing with the final weight data of their incline test results statistically, and are analyzed as follows; The maximum criteria of the weight margins of Korea naval ship in the preliminary and detailed design phases seem to be appropriate values, but the minimum criteria would be advisable to update more reasonable values. And, the limitation that the acceptable deviation of lightship weight should be 10 % of the lightship weight on a naval ship's ROC(Required Operational Capabilities) is recommended to be prohibited, because it comes from the weight estimation which has considerable uncertainty and it may also drop off design flexibility. Finally, the SWBS(Ship Work Breakdown System) groups which have larger deviation values in the estimating weight of naval ships are necessary to improve their accuracies, and to upgrade their weight database continuously.

New shipyard layout design for the preliminary phase & case study for the green field project

  • For several decades, Asian nations such as Korea, Japan and China have been leading the shipbuilding industry since the decline in Europe and America. However, several developing countries such as India, Brazil, etc. are going to make an entrance into the shipbuilding industry. These developing countries are finding technical partners or information providers because they are in situation of little experiences and technologies. Now, the shipbuilding engineering companies of shipbuilding advanced countries are getting a chance of engineering business against those developing countries. The starting point of this business model is green field project for the construction of new shipyard. This business model is started with a design of the shipyard layout. For the conducting of the shipyard layout design, four kinds of engineering parts are required. Those are civil engineering, building engineering, utility engineering and production layout engineering. Among these parts, production layout engineering is most important because its result is the foundation of the other engineering parts and it determines the shipyard capacity during the shipyard operation lifecycle. Previous researches about the shipyard layout design are out of the range from the business requirements because most research cases are in the tower of ivory, which means that there are little consideration of real ship and shipbuilding operation. In this paper, a shipyard layout design for preliminary phase is conducted for the target of newly planned shipyard at Venezuela of South America with an integrated method that is capable of dealing with actual master data from the shipyard. The layout design method of this paper is differentiated from the previous researches in that the actual product data from the target ship and the actual shipbuilding operation data are used for the required area estimation.

  • 선박의 기본설계과정에서 공진회피를 도모하기위한 설계변수조정에 있어서 기준계의 고유진동수 감도를 활용하는 방법이 매우 효과적이다. 본 연구에서는 선박저차진동수에 대해 초기설계단계에서 고려될 수 있는 설계변수에 대한 고유진동수 감도를 등가 Tioshenko보의 경우를 기준으로 하여 추산할 수 있는 방법을 제시했다.
