  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of interior landscape that influence preference at a department store in order to answer the research question; What are the effective factors of interior landscape that affect preference at a department store. After review of the effect of interior landscape, and the interior landscape at a department store, we constructed a literature framework and have formulated the hypothesis of this research. We have analyzed the data which surveyed 108 visitors about the interior landscape in a department store, using factor analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis, and the multiple linear regression method. We found that; 1) eleven variables can be selected for the effects of interior landscape at department store: accessibility, image, stay, distinction, comfort, complexity, cleanness, mystery, purification of atmosphere, noise and harmony. Among the 11 independent variables used to study the effect of interior landscape at a department store, the image and purification of atmosphere highly affect preference. 2) These 11 variables are grouped by factor analysis as effects of amenity, attractiveness and identity. 3) As a result of multiple regression analysis, independent variables influencing preference were proved statistically significant at one percent level. 4) Regarding their relative contribution of interior landscape effect at a department store, the effects of amenity was the most important and it showed a level of importance 1.4 times higher than the effect of identity, and 1.25 times higher than the effect of attractiveness. The research results suggest the need for guidelines for the creation of interior landscape at department stores. The approach and analysis method adopted by this research is highly useful for the evaluation of interior landscape criteria at a department store. It is recommended that more practical study on factors affecting user's preference be performed in the future.

  • This study examines how preference clarity and customer participation levels affect evaluation of fit toward customized services and also analyzes the effects of cultural difference between Korea and China that may cause variance in the evaluation of fit in the course of interaction with the prior two factors, preference clarity and customer participation level. It conducted a $2{\times}2{\times}2$ between-subjects factorial design adopting preference clarity, customer participation level, and difference of culture. The subjects were composed of 200 Korean and 200 Chinese. According to the analysis results, it is revealed that Korean consumers highly perceived fit toward customized services when their preference is clear and participation level is high, and they evaluate fit more favorably as participation level increased, while Chinese consumers' evaluation for fit deteriorated as participation level increased. The result shows that fit evaluation became more positive through participation when preference clarity is high in Koreans but not in Chinese.

  • A laboratory experiment was conducted to investigate varietal differences in feeding preference of striped rice borer larvae (Chilo suppressalis W.) to the stem pieces of the eight rice varieties. The preference of the larvae for feeding was significantly differed with the varieties, and in some varieties they were changed with the stages of the plants after transplanting. The larvae much more preferred the susceptible variety Rexoro than the resistant variety TKM-6. The varieties Tongil (Suweon 213-1), Yushin, Jinheung and IR-26 showed comparatively lower feeding preference than TKM-6. Some varieties exhibited a rather interesting phenomenon; strong preference in feeding was observed during the vegetative phase for Tetep and Tongil (Suweon 213-1) and during the maturing phase for Suweon 240 and Yushin. When the varieties TKM-6, Tongil and Rexore were given in several combinations, Rexore was strongly preferred by the larvae than others, and Tongil was still comparatively low in feeding preference of the larvae. The non-feeding preference of the larvae were considered to be in coincidence with the resistance of rice varieties to the striped rice borer.
