  • Microstructure and tensile property in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ) of austenitic Fe-Mn-Al-C low density steels were investigated through transmission electron microscopy analysis and tensile tests. The HAZ samples were prepared using Gleeble simulation with high heat input welding condition of 300 kJ/cm, and the HAZ peak temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ was determined from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) test. The strain- stress responses of base steels showed that the addition of V improved the tensile and yield strength by grain refinement and precipitation strengthening. Tensile strength and elongation decreased in the weld HAZ as compared to the base steel, due to grain growth, while V-added steel had a higher HAZ strength as compared than V-free steel.

  • Methods used for averaging PH's of rainwater and site representation have been studied, Statistical analysis was attempted regarding effects of ionic components on PH's utilizing 847 data altogether obtained in two years, 1984 and 1985. The outcome of the study may be assumarized as follows: 1. Methods for Averaging PH Volume weighted method is considered to be acceptable providing that precipitation is measured at the same time when the samples are taken. Without precipitation data a simple averaging method should be the next choice. 2. Site Representation A statistical method used for optimizing a monitoring newtork was applied using the data collected. Because of a limited number of data, no discernible conclusion can be reached suggesting that the method can serve as a good guide when the data base becomes more reliable. 3. A good correlation appears to exist betwen conductivities and ionic components in rainwater. It would, therefore, be possible to certain extend to estimate ionic concentrations from conductivity measurements by correlation equations. 4. The acidity of rainwater is effected by $SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, Cl^- and NH_4^+ with SO_4^{2-}$ being the most significant as demonstrated by standardized regression analysis.

  • This paper reported a simple deposition-precipitation method, introducing the metal (Ni, Ag and Sn) and $Na_2S{\cdot}5H_2O$ to preparedispersion metal sulfide nanoparticles on the surface of the Multi-walled carbon nanotube for synthesis of CNT-$M_xS_y$ ($NiS_2$, $Ag_2S$, SnS) composite photocatalysts. The characterization of the prepared CNT-$M_xS_y$ ($NiS_2$, $Ag_2S$, SnS) composites was performed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis and BET analysis. Furthermore, the MB degradation rate constant for CNT-SnS composite was $5.68{\times}10^{-3}$ under visible light irradiation, which was much higher than the corresponding values for other samples. The detailed formation and photocatalytic mechanism are also provided here.

  • To remediate lead (Pb)-contaminated soils, it is proposed that microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) would provide the best alternative to other remediation technologies. In this study, Pb bioremediation in soils was investigated using the calcite-precipitating bacterium Kocuria flava. Results indicate that the Pb is primarily associated with the carbonate fraction in bioremediated soil samples. The bioavailability of Pb in contaminated soil was reduced so that the potential stress of Pb was alleviated. This research provides insight into the geochemistry occurring in the MICP-based Pb-remediated soils, which will help in remediation decisions.

  • Precipitation samples were collected at the GAW Stations in Anmyeon-do and Gosan for 10 years (2008-2017) to analyze pH, electrical conductivity and NH4+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, SO42-, NO3-, Cl-, and F- ions. From the analysis, the correlation between pH and rainfall, the composition of precipitation and comparison with other regions, and the results of neutralization characteristics by seasonal and pH were determined. In the comparison of ion balance and conductivity for the validation of analytical data, the correlation coefficients were within the range of 0.996~0.999, implying good linear relationship. The volume-weighted pH of the Anmyeon-do and Gosan areas were 4.7 and 4.9, respectively. The pH of the rainfall was affected by washout and rainout in both areas. The ionic strength of precipitation at Anmyeondo and Gosan were 0.42 ± 0.63 mM and 0.37 ± 0.75 mM, indicating about 27.6% and 35.3% of the total precipitation as per a pure precipitation criterion (10-4 M), respectively. The composition ratio of ionic species were 44.7% and 57.5% for marine sources (Na+, Mg2+, Cl-), 40.6% and 22.2% for the secondary inorganic components (NH4+, nss-SO42-, NO3-), and 5.6% and 4.0% for the soil source (nss-Ca2+), respectively. The neutralization factor of Anmyeon-do and Gosan were 0.43~0.65 and 0.34~0.48, and the neutralization factors of calcium carbonate were 0.15~0.34 and 0.25~0.30, respectively. Thus, both regions have the highest rate of neutralization caused by ammonia. As pH increased in Anmyeon-do and Gosan, change in calcium carbonate became greater than that in ammonia.

  • Leachate is a result of the percolation of precipitation, uncontrolled runoff, and irrigation water into the landfill and can also include water initially contained in the waste as well as infiltrating groundwater. Behaviour of leachate by rainfall was studied to evaluate the variation of leachate generation and contaminants by rainfall in Sudokwon Landfill from January 1998 to October 1998. The quantity of leachate generated was measured with a flow meter, and the concentrations $BOD_5$, CODcr, T-N, $NE_3-N$, SS of leachate were also measured. Principal outcome obtained in this study are as follows : the quantity of leachate generated was the highest on August, the highest leachate generation volume in this period was 11,913㎥ and the lowest was $6,261m^3$. Although the similar amount of precipitation of 80mm applied to the two samples, there were difference in leachate generation due to precipitation duration, precipitation frequency, wet condition of solid wastes. As the result of regression analysis, the correlation coefficients(r) between the quantity of leachate generated and precipitation were 0.823, 0.976 between $BOD_5$ and CODcr, 0.992 between T-N and $NE_3-N$. As the quantity of leachate generated increased 48%, the concentration of $BOD_5$ and CODcr decreased 51% and 50% respectively. Therefore it was showed that the pollutant concentrations in leachate were diluted by precipitation. The concentrations of $BOD_5$ and COBcr in the rainy season were 2000~4000mg/1, 4000~6000mg/1 respectively, and 1000~3000 mg/1, 3000~5000 mg/l in the dry season. The loading of SS, $BOD_5$, CODcr(kg/month) on July was increased by 2.9 times, 2.8 times, 2.2 times with a basis on March. Therefore countermeasure of treatment facilities according to increase of loading by rainfall in summer is necessary.

  • This study was conducted to examine the possibility of improvement effect in suppression of precipitation and nasty smell creation in Takju mash. First of all, gum shown to be lowest precipitation velocity was selected and this was applied to the fermentation of Takju mash for comparing with the control in terms of fermentation aspects and various qualities of Takju mash. Precipitation amount and precipitation velocity of suspension in Takju mash added with carrageenan was shown to be the lowest than that of others. Compared with the control, alcohol was highly generated in Takju mash added with carrageenan, especially between two and four days. Total acidity was shown to be highly increased until 2 days in Takju mash and thereafter to be slightly increased. Takju mash added with carrageenan was shown to be lower on the second stage than the control. Fusel oil produced from mash added with carrageenan was 0.046${\sim}$0.113${\mu}$l/ml and mash added with carrageenan generated less fusel oil than the control by 1.6${\sim}$3.2 fold. Yeast growth on the mash added with carrageenan was revealed to be helpful during fermentation periods. In general, sensory characteristics of Takju mash were shown to be more superior in mash added with carrageenan than in other samples. While nasty smell produced from a sample without gums was perceived after 2 days of Takju mash storage, nasty smell of Takju mash added with carrageenan was recognized after 6 days during storage. In conclusion, precipitation of suspension and nasty smell production in Takju mash were found to be suppressed by addition of carrageenan during Takju fermentation.

  • [ $Li[Ni_{0.8}Co_{0.15}Al_{0.05}]O_2$ ]cathode material for lithium secondary battery is obtained using co-precipitation method. To determine the optimal metal solution concentration value, the CSTR coprecipitation was carried out at various concentration values(1-2 mol/L). The surface morphology of coated samples was characterization by SEM(scanning electron microscope) and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction)analyses. Impedance analysis and cyclic voltammogram presented that internal resistance of the cell was dependent upon the concentration of metal solution. such data is very helpful in determining the optimal content of metal solution concentration to enhancing electrochemical property by adjusting powder size distribution and crystal structure.

  • Purpose: Prolactin in the blood is separated into three types, and over 90% of prolactin presents as a double monomer (23 KDa). Rarely, it can exist in the size of big prolactin (150 KDa), which is called macroprolactin and is known as an autoantibody complex. When macroprolactin accounts for more than 60% of prolactin in the blood, it is called macroprolactinemia. The presence of such macroprolactin was first reported in a patient with hyperprolactinemia but without typical symptoms. Macroprolactinemia is emerging as an important cause of idiopathic hyperprolactinemia. The polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation method using the property of precipitating large-molecular-weight proteins is simple and recently has been widely used as a screening test. The results are in good agreement with the results of gel chromatography. The purpose of this study was to confirm the measurement method and reference value verification of monomeric prolactin in blood prolactin using the PEG precipitation method. Materials and Methods: For 40 examinees who visited the Gangnam Center of Seoul National University Hospital in 2021, the prolactin level was verified using radioimmunoassay (RIA). For macroprolactinemia PEG precipitation method, 25% PEG (molecular weight 6000kDa) solution and serum were mixed in equal amounts in a test tube, then left at room temperature for 20 minutes and centrifuged at 4℃ for 30 minutes (1500g). The prolactin level was measured in the supernatant. Results : After confirming that more than 90% of the 40 tested samples within the reference range <25 ng/mL, the same value as the reference value for prolactin was applied. Since the concentration of monomeric prolactin in serum from which macroprolactin has been removed from blood is diluted 1:1 with PEG, our laboratory is currently reporting the result by multiplying the result by a dilution factor of 2. Conclusion: Radioimmunoassay using PEG precipitation method using the property of precipitating large molecular weight proteins is simple and effective for quantitative measurement of monomeric prolactin in blood prolactin.

  • This study investigated mineralogy, spectral characteristics and heavy metal contamination including Cd, Ni, Al, Fe, Mn and S for white precipitation in Miin falls based on XRF, XRD, and spectrometer. As a result, Al concentration was abnormally high at all samples, and most of the samples showed high contamination level in Cd and Ni. XRD results detected quartz, kaolinite, rhomboclase, aluminocoquimbite, and gibbsite which infers that heavy metal elements are distributed by adsorption with clay minerals. Spectral characteristics of white precipitation can be described by increasing pattern of reflectance in visible spectrum and decreasing pattern of reflectance in longer wave length including near infrared and shortwave infrared spectrum. The absorption features reveals that spectral characteristics of white precipitation is mainly controlled by kaolinite, rhomboclase, aluminocoquimbite, and gibbsite. The relationship between heavy metal concentration and absorption depth showed high positive correlation for Al concentration and absorption feature at 2202 nm of Al-OH absorption. This spectral characteristics indicates that absorption depth could be effectively used for estimation of heavy metal concentration.
