Synthesis of the Fe2O3-CoO-Cr2O3-MnO2 pigments by co-precipitation method (공침법에 의한 Fe2O3-CoO-Cr2O3-MnO2계 안료 연구)

  • The inorganic pigments of $Fe_2O_3-CoO-Cr_2O_3-MnO_2$ were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. $FeCl_3,\;CoCl_2,\;CrCl_3\;and\;MnCl_2$ are used for the starting raw materials, and 2 N-KOH for precipitator. $MnCl_2$ is secured with 10 mole%, and 6 composition ratios are used with three ingredients to synthesize the pigments. The samples were calcined at $1350^{\circ}C/1.5h$. The resulting pigments were characterized by using XRD, FT-IR, SEM, and UV spectrophotometer. 6wt% pigments were applied to lime glaze and lime-barium glaze respectively firing at $1260^{\circ}C$ for oxidation atmosphere and $1240^{\circ}C$ for reduction one. The results of color analysis by using UV spectrophotometer showed black, bluish black and dark grayish green.

Analysis of the 'Chukwookee' data using time series model (시계열 모형을 이용한 측우기 자료의 분석)

  • One of the main issues related to the precipitation amounts measured by the Korean raingage, Chukwookee, invented by King Sejong is the discontinuity in the time series around 1907 when the modern raingage was first used in Korea. To solve this discontinuity problem Wada(1971) reproduced the Chukwookee data but many authors questioned the validity of Wada's method. In this paper we analyze the precipitation amounts in Seoul from 1771 to 1994 using the intervention model and show that Wada's method results in the overestimation of the precipitation amounts. We also propose a reproduction method by considering monthly constant and including the rainfall of less then 2 mm and the snowfall which were ignored previously.

A Study of Line-shaped Echo Detection Method using Naive Bayesian Classifier (나이브 베이지안 분류기를 이용한 선에코 탐지 방법에 대한 연구)

  • There are many types of advanced devices for weather prediction process such as weather radar, satellite, radiosonde, and other weather observation devices. Among them, the weather radar is an essential device for weather forecasting because the radar has many advantages like wide observation area, high spatial and time resolution, and so on. In order to analyze the weather radar observation result, we should know the inside structure and data. Some non-precipitation echoes exist inside of the observed radar data. And these echoes affect decreased accuracy of weather forecasting. Therefore, this paper suggests a method that could remove line-shaped non-precipitation echo from raw radar data. The line-shaped echoes are distinguished from the raw radar data and extracted their own features. These extracted data pairs are used as learning data for naive bayesian classifier. After the learning process, the constructed naive bayesian classifier is applied to real case that includes not only line-shaped echo but also other precipitation echoes. From the experiments, we confirm that the conclusion that suggested naive bayesian classifier could distinguish line-shaped echo effectively.

A study on the synthesis of amorphous aluminium phosphate powders by hydrothermal precipitation method (수열침전법에 의한 비정질 인산알루미늄 분말의 합성에 관한 연구)

  • Amorphous aluminium phosphate powders were synthesized as a single phase by neutralization reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ and $H_3PO_4$ using the NaOH or KOH solution and subsequently by the hydrothermal precipitation method. The synthesis conditions were as follows : starting materials; $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ and $H_3PO_4$,pH ranges of neutralization reaction; between 5.6 and 6.0, temperature ranges of hydrothermal reaction; between 170 and $180^{\circ}C$,time ranges of hydrothermal reaction; between 4 and 5hs. Under such synthesis conditions, the products are obtained as amorphous aluminium phosphate powders of 0.1~0.3$\mu\textrm{m}$ in size and are Eitted to USP (United Standard Pharmacopoeia) test.

A Study on the Manufacture of Composite W Powder for Low Sintering Temperature by Liquid Reduction Precipitation Method (액상환원침전법에 의한 저온활성화소결용 복합W분말의 제조방법 및 소결특성에 관한 연구)

  • Tungsten(W) metal has excellent properties in heat-resistance, corrison-resistance and impact-resistance but W-Metal is hard to sinter because higher than $2,000^{\circ}C$ is required to sinter W-powder. Con-sequently, a deposit technique of Nikel Phosphorus(NiP) on W-powber by the liquid reduction precipitation method was performed. Sintering temperature of the resulting W-NiP composite was lowered around to $1,000^{\circ}C$, and the mechanical properties of the sintered body was studied. The most suitable conditions for NiP thin film deposit on W-Powder by the liquid reduction precipitation method, which are composition, concentration, pH and temperature of the liquid reduction solution, were considered. The activated sintering was carried out in a reducing condition furnace. Components and properties of the sintered body were investigated by the density and the hardness measurements, X- ray diffraction analysis, and microscopic photographs of the surface. Quantity of NiP thin film on W-powder could be varied by the change of the liquid reduction solution composition. The sintering temperature of W-NiP composite powder is lowered to $950^{\circ}C$ from $2,000^{\circ}C$ and the hardness is increased (ca. 720 Hv). Large shrinkage could be observed since density was increased from 5.5 to 11.0 g/$cm^2$ which 86.2% of theoretical density. W metal and $Ni_3P$ crystal were detected through X-ray diffraction on the sintered body. Perfectly activated sintering was observed by microscopic photographs.

PH Characteristics of Precipitation in Seoul Area (서울 지역에 내린 우수 pH 특성)

  • Rainwater was collected in Seoul area from January 1991 to December 1993 (over 3years) and by the analysis of the chemical components contained in rainwater, investigated the components that effect on rainwater pH Through the above studies the following conclusions were obtained. 1) Method for Averaging pH Volume weighted method is considered to be acceptable providing that precipitation is measured at the same time when the samples are taken, without precipitation data a simple averaging method should be the next choice. 2) Annual average rainwater pH was 4.98 in 1991, 4.80 in 1992, 4.67 in 1993, measurement range was 3.6-8.1. 3) In the relationship between rainwater pH and rainfall amounts rainwater pH for light rain(<15mm rainfall) was existent in the wide range(pH 4-7), but for heavy rain was corresponded to the annual average values. 4) Annual frequency of pH was Birrndat the frequency($\gamma $) between the density of the [$H^{+}$] and pH in the rainwater(over 3years ), $NO_{3}^{-}$ was excellent and the obtained results was 0.62 in 1992. Also In the correlation coefficient($\gamma $) according to the pH range $SO_{4}^{2-}, NO_{3}^{-}$, were 0.85 ,0.68 at 3.6 $Cl^-$ was 0.99(1993). At 4.1$NO_{3}^{-}(\gamma=0.48)$ in 1992, SO_4^{2-}($\gamma$=0.54), $NO_{3}^{-}(\gamma$=0.72), $Cl^- (\gamma$=0.49) in 1993. 6) pH values gradually increased with increase in $Ca^{2+}/SO_{4}^{2-}$.

Effects of pH Control Agent and Co-Precipitate Washing Agent on Nickel Ferrite Preparation by Co-Precipitation Method (공침법에 의한 Nickel Ferrite의 분말제조에서 pH-조절제 및 공침물-세척제의 영향)

  • Nickel ferrite $(Ni_{0.75}Fe_{2.25}O_4$ was synthesized by co-precipitation method in order to investigate its behavior under conditions of the reactor coolant system in pressurized light water nuclear power plants. Ammonia or potassium carbonate was used as a solution pH control agent, and aqueous ammonia or potassium carbonate solution or secondary distilled water was used as a co-precipitate washing agent. The effects of the pH control agent and the co-precipitate washing agent on the production yield on the basis of the Ni/Fe molar ratio and the particle characteristics of final products were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDX and XPS. The production yield was almost congruent with that of the initial aqueous mixture in case of using potassium carbonate as a pH control agent, while in case of using ammonia, it was quite changed. The difference seemed to be due to the effects of $Ni^{2+}{\leftarrow}NH_3$complexation in the aqueous solution and of the pH of co-precipitate washing agent.

  • In this work, tin oxides were obtained by the liquid reduction precipitation method and hydrothermal process using $SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$, $N_2H_4$, and NaOH. Tin oxide crystals having different sizes and morphologies could be achieved. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM). Depending on the molar ratio of the raw materials, tin oxide crystalline with the spherical and rectangular plate-like shape could be obtained, the crystal phase was SnO and $Sn_6O_4(OH)_4$. And the obtained SnO crystals by a hydrothermal reaction showed various shapes, such as, spherical, plate-like and flower-like architectures depending on the temperature conditions.

  • This study has been carried out in order to examine the precipitation characteristics of Fe, Mn and Al ions in coal mine drainage before removing heavy metals by using the froth flotation method. The removal rate of Fe(III), Mn(II) and Al(III) within 1 h accounted for over 99% in pH 5.0, 10.0, and $6.0{\sim}9.0$ respectively, and residual concentrations of which were under $1mgL^{-1}$. When sodium oleate as a collector was added to the solution of Fe, Mn, and Al ions, insoluble salts was not formed by the reaction of heavy metal and sodium oleate. So, we must remove the metals from coal mine drainage by using not the ion flotation method, but the precipitation flotation method

  • This paper presents a quantitative method of sequential separation of $^{90}Sr$, $^{241}Am$ and Pu radionuclides with an anion exchange resin and a Sr-Spec resin. The Pu isotopes were purified with an anion exchange resin. The americium and strontium fractions were separated from the matrix elements with an oxalate co-precipitation method. Americium fraction was separated from the strontium fraction with iron co-precipitation method and purified from lanthanides with anion exchange resin. Strontium-90 was purified from other hindrance elements with the Sr-Spec resin after oxalate co-precipitation. The measurement of Pu and Am isotopes was carried out by an ${\alpha}$-spectrometer. Strontium-90 was measured by a liquid scintillation counter. The radiochemical procedure of $^{90}Sr$, $^{241}Am$ and Pu radionuclides investigated in this study has been validated by application to IAEA-Reference soils.
