$Y_2Ti_2O_7$ nanoparticles (0.3 mol%) have been successfully synthesized by the co-precipitation process. The samples, adjusted to pH7 with ammonia solution as catalyst and calcined at $700{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, exhibit very fine particles with close to spherical shape and average size of 10-30 nm. It was possible to control the size of the synthesized $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ particles by manipulating the conditions. The $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ nanoparticles were coated on a glass substrate by a dipping coating process with inorganic binder. The $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ solution coated on the glass substrate had excellent adhesion of 5B; pencil hardness test results indicated an excellent hardness of 6H. The thickness of the thick film was about $30{\mu}m$. Decomposition of MB on the $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ thin film shows that the photocatalytic properties were excellent.
Effect of tin and iron content on the recrystallization behavior of temary Zr-0.8Sn-x%Nb alloys were studied. The specimens with 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 wt.% of iron were prepared under various annealing temperatures from $400^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ and times from 30 to 5000 minutes after vacuum arc remelting. The recrystallization behavior was observed using a polarized optical microscope, TEM and micro-vickers hardness tester. The recrystallization temperature of the alloys slightly increased with iron content due to increase of activation energy. The grain growth of the alloys with 0.1 and 0.2 wt.% of iron occured rapidly, however, that of the alloys with 0.4 wt.% iron was gradually retarded due to precipitation. The hardness of the alloy with a high iron slightly increased by the precipitation of beta phase after annealing at $800^{\circ}C$.
Recently welding of aluminum material is actively carried out to make lightweight in the fields of LNG vessels, aircraft, chemical plants, etc. To obtain high strength, hardness and elongation, elements such as manganese, zinc, silicon, etc should be added in aluminum alloy, which has been improved on the mechanical properties like precipitation hardening, age hardening, loosening, corrosion resistance acid resistance. Ar gas is used as a shielding gas of MIG welding for aluminum, also $N_2$, $O_2$, $CO_2$, $H_2$ etc can be added depending on the composition of the alloy. In this study, Ar + $O_2$, Ar, and He were used for welding, hardness, penetration status and changes in composition of penetrated parts were compared and analyzed. This made it possible to know the status and changes of the process in the penetrated parts depending on used gas throughout this study.
The influence of thermo-mechanical cycling on the microstructure and strength in the weld coarse-grained heat affected zone (CGHAZ) of Ti-Nb added low carbon HSLA steel was explored through Vickers hardness tests, nanoindentation experiments, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Undeformed and deformed CGHAZs were simulated using Gleeble simulator with different heat inputs of 30kJ/cm and 300kJ/cm. At high heat input of 300kJ/cm, the CGHAZ consisted of ferrite and pearlite and then their grain sizes were not affected by deformation. At low heat input of 30kJ/cm, the CGHAZ consisted of lath martensite and then the sizes of prior austenite grain, packet and lath width decreased with deformation. In addition, the fraction of particle increased with deformation and this is because the precipitation kinetics was accelerated by deformation. Meanwhile, the Vickers and nanoindentation hardness of deformed CGHAZ with 30kJ/cm heat input were higher than those of undeformed CGHAZ, which are due to the effect of grain refinement and precipitation strengthening.

The precipitation behaviors of ${\gamma}"(Ni_3Nb)$ in four Ni-base alloys were investigated. The four alloys were forged Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy, mechanically alloyed Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy, IN 718 alloy and ECAPed(equal channel angular pressing) IN 718 alloy. Aging treatment was employed at either $600^{\circ}C$ or $720^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs. The TEM observation and hardness test were performed to identify the formation of ${\gamma}"$. The precipitation of ${\gamma}"$ was noticed after aging at $600^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs in the mechanically alloyed Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and ECAPed IN 718 alloy, while it was observed after aging at $720^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs in the forged Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and IN 718 alloy before ECAP. The lower aging temperature for ${\gamma}"$ precipitation in the mechanically alloyed Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and ECAPed IN 718 alloy than in the forged Ni20Cr20Fe5Nb alloy and IN 718 alloy before ECAP appeared to be due to the severe plastic deformation which occurred during mechanical alloying or ECAP.
This study was carried out to investigate the influence of variations in the temperature and time of isothermal heat treatment, applied stresses and prestrain on the isothermal transformation behavior of ${\gamma}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases and mechanical properties of 25Cr-7Ni-3Mo duplex stainless steel. The precipitation of ${\gamma}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases through isothermal heat treatment showed the type curves with a certain incubation period, the curve migrated to in a short period of time and the amount of precipitation increased with decreasing isothermal heat treatment temperature. Under the state of isothermal transformation, the precipitation of ${\gamma}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases was stimulated by applied stress, with increasing applied stress, the curves migrated to in a short period of time and also observed that the application of stress has a greater influence on the amount of ${\sigma}$ precipitation than that of ${\gamma}$ precipitation. The precipitation of ${\gamma}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases was stimulated by cold and warm rolling before isothermal heat treatment and precipitation of ${\gamma}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases has a greater influence on the warm rolling than cold rolling. The tensile strength and hardness increased with increasing cold and warm rooling reduction ratio.
Tungsten(W) metal has excellent properties in heat-resistance, corrison-resistance and impact-resistance but W-Metal is hard to sinter because higher than $2,000^{\circ}C$ is required to sinter W-powder. Con-sequently, a deposit technique of Nikel Phosphorus(NiP) on W-powber by the liquid reduction precipitation method was performed. Sintering temperature of the resulting W-NiP composite was lowered around to $1,000^{\circ}C$, and the mechanical properties of the sintered body was studied. The most suitable conditions for NiP thin film deposit on W-Powder by the liquid reduction precipitation method, which are composition, concentration, pH and temperature of the liquid reduction solution, were considered. The activated sintering was carried out in a reducing condition furnace. Components and properties of the sintered body were investigated by the density and the hardness measurements, X- ray diffraction analysis, and microscopic photographs of the surface. Quantity of NiP thin film on W-powder could be varied by the change of the liquid reduction solution composition. The sintering temperature of W-NiP composite powder is lowered to $950^{\circ}C$ from $2,000^{\circ}C$ and the hardness is increased (ca. 720 Hv). Large shrinkage could be observed since density was increased from 5.5 to 11.0 g/$cm^2$ which 86.2% of theoretical density. W metal and $Ni_3P$ crystal were detected through X-ray diffraction on the sintered body. Perfectly activated sintering was observed by microscopic photographs.
To investigate the effect of austenitizing tempratures on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of 0.19%C-13.6%Cr martensitic stainless steel, the changes in martensitic trasformation temperatures, mechanical properties and anodic polarization curve were examined after changing the austenitizing temperatures and tempering temperatures. On increasing heating rate at the same austenitizing temperatures, $A_s$, $A_r$ and $M_s$ increased. And the $M_s$ temperature showed to be decreased with increasing austenitizing temperature. With increasing tempering temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$, strength, hardness and impact value were not changed remarkably, on the other hand the tensile strength and hardness decreased and impact value increased after tempering above $550^{\circ}C$ owing to the $M_{23}C_6$ carbide precipitation. The abrupt decrease in elongation at the tempering temperture of $500^{\circ}C$ proved to the precipitation of $M_7C_3$ carbide. The effect of austenitizing temperature on the mechanical properties of the tempered specimen showed to be decreased in impact value and elongation at the austenitizing temperature of $1150^{\circ}C$. At low tempering temperatures the corrosion resistance of the tempered specimen was not changed obviously with increasing tempering temperature. On the other hand, the resistance decreased above the tempering temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ due to the precipitation of $M_{23}C_6$ carbides. The corrosion resistance showed to be improved with increasing the austenitizing temperature owing to the dissolution of carbides.
The problem of disposal of brine due to increased MD/RO desalination plant has recently become a big social issue. The chlor-alkali process through electrolysis of brine has been studied as a method to overcome this problem. In order to increase the electrolysis efficiency, a pretreatment process for removal of hard substances must be preceded. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of removal of hardness through chemical precipitation. As a result, Ca was greatly influenced by addition of $Na_2CO_3$, and Mg was strongly influenced by pH. Also, the addition of NaOH and $Na_2CO_3$ enabled simultaneous removal of Ca and Mg, and showed a removal efficiency of 99.9% or more. Finally, the residual concentrations of Ca and Mg in the brine after the reaction were 0.14 and 0.13 mg/L, respectively. Saturation index was calculated using Visual MINTEQ 3.1, and solid phase analysis of the precipitate was performed by FE-SEM and PXRD analysis. It was confirmed that precipitate formed by the formation of calcite and brucite.
The secondary hardening and fracture behavior in P/M high speed steels bearing V content of 9 to 10 wt% have been investigated in terms of austenitizing temperature and precipitation behavior. Austenitizing was conducted at 1,100 and $1,175^{\circ}C$ of relatively low and high temperatures. Coarse primary carbides retained after austenitization were mainly V-rich MC type. They give a significant influence on hardeness and toughness, as well as wear resistance. Tempering was performed in the range of $500{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. The peak hardness resulting from the precipitation of the fine MC secondary carbides was observed near 520, irrespective of austenitizing temperature. Aging acceleration(or deceleration) did not occur with increasing austenitizing temperature because it mainly influences contents of V and C of matrix through the dissloution of coarse primary MC containing lots of V and C. The precipitation of secondary MC carbides, which also contain V and C, did not change the aging kinetics itself. In the 10V alloy containing much higher C content, the impact toughness was lower than 9V alloy, because of the larger amount of primary carbide and high hardness.
