Each college of dentistry in Korea is examining and reorganizing its own curriculum to prepare students for the practical examination of the National Dental Licensing Examination. Conducting an assessment of students' competency of communication skills with standardized patients is the first attempt for the examination. Yonsei University College of Dentistry carried out the evaluation of communication attitude, communication written exam, and communication skills practice with standardized patients for Third year predoctoral students. The purpose of this study is a) to find out the relationship between the variables measured in communication skills education and b) to make a new basis for the application of communication education and evaluation in dentistry. Based on the results of the study, the following suggestions for the operation of a dental communication curriculum can be drawn: First, the communication classes and the practice with standardized patients should be based on the wide support of the school. In addition, the patient-dentist interaction (PDI) should be practiced in the same way as practically possible by predoctoral students. Moreover, a space is required to allow predoctoral students to practice PDI. Second, the communication score given by the standardized patients was the most influential on the total score of PDI. This indicates that the communication practice with the standardized patients for the practical examination of the National Dental Licensing Examination is a meaningful process in the course of its communication education.

The study was intended to investigate the degree of satisfaction and experiences of maternity nursing practice and to examine the relationships between satisfaction and experiences. Data were collected from a college located in Inchon from April 2, 2001 to October 30, 2001. A general characteristics questionnaires, questionnaire for clinical practice satisfaction and maternity nursing clinical checklist were used to measure the satisfaction and experiences of maternity nursing practice. The subject were supposed to record their clinical experience in maternity clinical practice checklist. 153 questionnaires for satisfaction of clinical practice and 178 maternity nursing clinical practice checklists used for analysis. The data were analyzed by SPSS-PC+ program. The results of this study were as follows ; 1) The mean score of satisfaction of clinical practice was 3.34(a perfect score 5) and among the 4 categorial components from the questionnaire of satisfaction the score of 'clinical practice teaching' was high(3.85) and 'clinical practice environment(2.91)' and 'clinical practice contents(2.90)' was relatively low. 2) There was significant value between place of clinical practice and clinical practice satisfaction among 7 clinical practice hospital and the most high score of clinical practice satisfaction is 3.70 and the low score is 2.91(F=7.706, p<.001). The score of delivery room was significantly higher than the OBGY room and there was significant value among the place of clinical practice(DR : F= 6.441, p<.001, OBGY room : F=7.908, p<.001). 3) In delivery room, the frequency of observation are 2.61 day, the frequency of practice are 1.33 day and in OBGY room the frequency of observation are 1.73 day, the frequency of practice are 1.31 day for 2 week of maternity clinical practice and the most frequent practice of maternity nursing care was checking vital sign. 4) There were significant relationships between the ranking score of clinical satisfaction and clinical experiences in maternity nursing practice. Based on the results, it is suggested that the satisfaction of clinical practice was related to environment of clinical practice and it is necessary to improve environment of clinical practice and make a strategies to enhance the quality of maternity clinical experience.

The purpose of this study was to find out how pre-service teachers who have gone through training have thought about teaching practice. Specifically, I analyzed the relationship between college curriculum and teaching practice, and what they had felt in teaching practice. The study included 20 third grade students in teacher's college. The results of this study were as follows: First, it was found that the content knowledge and the pedagogical knowledge of the subjects taught at the university were helpful for the teaching practice. Second, they were thought that teaching practice would be helpful just to watch the class. And pre-service teachers felt that class demonstration was a necessary part of becoming a teacher. Third, pre-service teachers said that it is necessary to have a lecture in the university that can have opportunity for class demonstration for teaching practice. And also they wanted to open a lecture to learn various teaching techniques and the newest teaching methods. Fourth, pre-service teachers said that it is important to form relationships with students in order to complete the lessons through the teaching practice. And they said that they felt that the education scene was more powerful and harder than they thought. In addition, they said that through this exercise, it became a moment to feel the importance of thorough preparation and experience. In this way, teaching practice is an essential process for pre-service teachers to become teachers and it can be seen that they have many influences. Based on these results, it is necessary to review and revise the curriculum of the training colleges in relation to the teaching practice.
Increase of automobiles become today's environmental problem decreasing space for our children's playground. The traffic situation around us shows automobiles over filled the public roads and started to intrude even on the side walks. Children's traffic safety education for the awareness of the danger from traffic mishaps, and for the behavior to cope with preventives measure by continual learning programs in systematized method is very important need in current health education. For this research, the subject was represented by 243 students from 4th grade in D Elementary School located at Daechi-dong, Seoul. During total of 5 weeks (September 4, 1997 to September 30, 1997), lessons were taught to the subject. Lessons consist of traffic safety education and customized education program that were designed and developed specificially for the subject level. In this research, Case group of 3 classes and control group of 3classes were predetermined before subject's degree of knowledge, attitude, and practice was analized. The difference before and after the training of this education was observed to verify the effectively and to find the influential factors of this education program. On September 2-3, survey study was performed after the training. the results of this study were as follows: 1. The knowledge analysis from the comparison between before and after of the training shows case group and control group scored(8.36, 8.86) before the traning, but scored(10.36, 8.52) after the traning. the difference from the result of the case group is statistically significant(p〈0.001). 2. The attitude analysis from the comparison between before and after of the training shows case group and control group scored(48.23, 49.87) before the training, but scored (51.05, 48.45) after the traning. the difference from the result of the case group is statistically significant(p〈0.001) 3. The practice analysis from the comparison between before and after of the training shows case group and control group scored (27.42, 28.08) before the training, but scored(30.49, 28.25) after the training. The differece from the result of the case group is statistically significant (p〈0.001). 4. The correlation analysis of traffic safety education's influence on traffic safety knowledge, attitude, and practice before training shows the relationship between attitude and practice was satistically significant(p〈0.05). The result after the training shows the relationship between knowledge and attitude, attitude and practice, and knowledge and practice was all statistically significant(p〈0.001).

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationships among communication competence, professional self-concept, and stress in clinical practice of nursing students. Methods: The study participants were 308 senior year nursing students in D city and K province. Collected data were analyzed using t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS Version 20.0. Results: There were significant differences in participants' stress of clinical practice based on their level of satisfaction on clinical practice, self-confidence of nursing and difficulty with relationships in clinical practice. A negative correlation was detected between stress in clinical practice and the professional self-concept of nursing students. Significant predictors of the perceived stress of clinical practice were satisfaction in clinical practice and pride in nursing. These accounted for 18% of the perceived stress of clinical practice in a regression model. Conclusion: The results may serve as basic data in support of the need to the develop effective systematic stress management programs and clinical training courses in order to attenuate the stress experienced during clinical practice of nursing students.
The structures and processes of medical education have changed little since the publication of Flexner's report, which stressed the scientific orientation of medical education and the curricular structure of 2 years of formal knowledge education and 2 years of clinical experience. However, the previous perspectives on medical education are facing challenges, and these call for new pedagogy and theories on which to base medical education practice. Considering that social dimensions of learning have been emphasized in practice, perspectives that integrate these aspects are needed. Among the various learning theories, social cognitive theory refers to the theoretical framework which contends that learning occurs within interactions with others and environments. From a social cognitive standpoint, learning through observation is a critical component in human functioning. Indeed, observational learning has particular significance in medical education in that it provides the context for which the importance and meaning of role models can be understood. In addition, as theoretical constructs such as self-efficacy and outcome expectations allow us to establish an effective learning environment, exploring the concepts of the theory could be beneficial to medical education practice. In this context, the present review article aims to provide a glimpse of the fundamental assumptions and theoretical concepts of social cognitive theory and discusses the implications the theory has on teaching and learning. Further, a review of previous studies could help explain how the theory has informed medical education practice. Finally, the author will conclude with the implications and limitations of applying social cognitive theory in medical education.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of an eye health education program on the level of knowledge and eye health practice of middle school students. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. The study participants were from one middle school first graders in a province of Korea. The experimental group was composed of three classes (76 students), and the control group was composed of three other classes (77 students). Pretests were conducted in June for the experimental group and in August for the control group. The experimental group received an eye health education program developed for this study consisting of four sessions in total, given once a week for 45 minutes per session. The control group was instructed by the school's health teacher in the eye health education included in the existing health education curriculum. Posttests were conducted three weeks after the training in the control group and immediately after the fourth eye health education session in the experimental group. Results: After being instructed in the eye health education program, the eye health-related knowledge (t=9.45, p<.001) and eye health practice (t=2.18, p=.031) of the experimental group participating in the education program were higher than those of the control group. Conclusion: The eye health education program was effective in improving middle school student's level of eye health-related knowledge and eye health practice. School health teachers could implement this program as a part of the standard eye health education for middle school students. The long-term effects of practicing eye health behavior needs to be confirmed in a future study.
Objective: This study was conducted to assess the current status of experiential education, by analyzing pharmacy students' satisfaction and evaluation for practice sites and preceptors for 3 years from 2014 through 2016. Methods: Students evaluated the practice sites and preceptors using a 5-point and a 4-point Likert scale, respectively. Analysis was performed based on the types of curriculums and practice sites. In addition, sub-analysis was conducted based on the types of health-system pharmacy and the community pharmacy. Results: Total 203 students responded to the survey questionnaires. The 3-year average score of students' satisfaction with practice sites was 4.25. In the sub-analysis conducted based on the types of health-system pharmacy, the score was higher in the tertiary hospital pharmacies than that of the general hospital pharmacies (4.49 vs. 4.06, P<0.001). For community pharmacy, the difference in the score of the 3-year analysis was not significant, depending on the types (4.51 vs. 4.33, P=0.054). The average score of students' evaluation on the preceptors was 3.37 in the 3-year analysis. The score was significantly higher for the preceptors of tertiary hospital pharmacies than those of general hospital pharmacies (3.61 vs. 3.25, P<0.001). For community pharmacy, no significant differences were found, depending on the types of pharmacy (3.53 vs. 3.43, P=0.309). Conclusion: The students' satisfaction with practice sites and preceptors in pharmacy experiential education was high. However, it varied greatly depending on the types of educational institutions. Mutual effort between university and educational institutions is required, to narrow the gap in the degree of students' satisfaction.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the safety awareness and safety practice of international marriage woman in Kimhae and Changwon city. We carried out a questionnaire survey that was targeted at 138 subjects. Data collected were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 statistical program. Analysis methods were t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Perarsons correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression. The results were as follows. First, safety awareness point was an average of 4.10 point which was higher level. Safety practice point was an over intermediate level of an average of 3.23 point. Second, safety awareness had statistically significant difference according to age, year of Korea residence, born Nation, whether or not Korean citizenshilp, monthly income, temper, satisfaction of marriage. Third, safety practice had statistically significant difference according to housing, monthly income, health state, satisfaction of marriage. Fourth, safety Practice had a positive correlation with home safety awareness, traffic safety awareness, fire safety awareness, and emergency care awareness. Therefore, a higher safety awareness results in having a very well safety practice. Fifth, International Marriage Women from Japan had the highest the level in the Safety Awareness and Safety Practice. From now on, two cities should have a major concern for safety education of fire and emergency care. And the safety education based on learning need analysis need to be done substantially.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to Identify the physical health status and health behavior practice of elderly people in order to provide basic data for effective nursing interventions to promote health and quality of lift. Method: The participants for this study were 299 elderly persons in D city. Data were collected by interview with a questionnaire. Results: Average score for the physical health status of the participants was 3.98. There was a significant difference in average scores for physical health status for the variables age, sex, marital status, education level, religion, monthly income, source of living expense, perceived health status, alcohol use and type of household. The average score for the health behavior practice of the participants was 99.52, which means that elderly persons have good health behavior. There was a significant difference in average scores for health behavior practice for the variables age, sex, education level, perceived health status and type of household. Perceived health status, education level and alcohol use explained 50.6% of the variance for physical health status. Perceived health status and education level explained 27.4% of the variance for health behavior practice. Conclusion: To promote health behavior in elderly people, it is necessary to develop nursing interventions that take into consideration sociocultural traditions and demographic characteristics.
