The Measurement System for Performance Evaluation of TTX Propulsion System (틸팅차량 주전력변환장치 성능평가를 위한 계측시스템)

  • The measurement system is composed of the industrial computers installed in the console and the measurement racks mounted on each car. It is utilized to accumulate the data by the communication card and the optical cable. The optical cable and power cable are coupled at the connector located in joint of train to make easy to disconnect car each other. The signal conditioner is designed to choose and to extend the channel for each sensor readily, In this study, the programs for measurement and analysis were also developed to understand the traction system characteristics of TTX. Using this measurement system, we studied that acceleration test, re-powering test and gradually powering test. From the test results, we saw the performances of the traction systems are normal.

  • This paper study on powering characteristic on speed variation of propulsion system of prototype 8200 electric locomotive propulsion system through simulation modeling. For this purpose, it being applied in the field of railway IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) elements are used. Converter was performed PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) control method that is used to control the phase and output voltage, and the inverter was carried an indirect vector control method to control the speed of traction motor. The results of simulation by modeling and experimental unit, we was confirmed that converter is controlled a unity power factor and output voltage by reference voltage. Also traction motor was controlled by indirect vector control and SVPWM inverter switching method very well.

Estimation of a 9.77 G/T Small Fishing Vessel's Operating Performance Depending on Forward Speed Based on 3-DoF Captive Model Tests (9.77톤급 소형어선의 3자유도 구속모형시험을 통한 선속 별 운항성능 추정)

  • In this study, a mathematical model of a 9.77 G/T small fishing vessel was established based on captive model tests. The powering and manoeuvring performances of the vessel in the harbor and coastal sea were focused on, so captive model tests were conducted up to the full-scale speed of 8 knots. Propeller open water, resistance, and self-propulsion tests of a 1/3.5-scaled model ship were performed in a towing tank, and the full-scale powering performance was predicted. Hydrodynamic coefficients in the mathematical model were obtained by rudder open water, horizontal planar motion mechanism tests of the same model ship. In particular, in static drift and pure yaw tests which were conducted at a speed of 2 to 8 knots, the linear hydrodynamic coefficients varied with the ship speed. The effect of the ship speed on the linear coefficients was considered in the mathematical model, and manoeuvring motions, such as turning circles and zig-zags, were simulated with various approach speeds and analyzed.

  • A new kind of bulb called Stern-End-Bulb(SEB) for the improvement of the after part of fine hull forms was developed. The reduction of wave resistance and the improvement of the powering performance for the ship with SEB were shown by the ship model tests, At the same time, the characteristics of wave in the vicinity of the stern and the mechanism of the resistance reduction by SEB were investigated. By the systematical variation of the SEB size, the optimum size of SEB was obtained.

  • The rectifier is the main element in the telecom DC power system. This paper investigates the advantages and disadvantages of three rectifier techniques ; thyristor, ferro - resonant, and switched - mode. Compared with other techniques, the switched - mode rectifier tech¬nique offers several advantages such as higher efficiency, smaller size and weight, and lower audible noise. Technical requirements in telecom rectifier plant are also described. Finally, the future trends in telecom powering are discussed in connection with the advance oftelecom net¬works.

Hull Form Design for Baltic Ice Class Aframax Tanker

  • A hull form of Baltic ice class IA Aframax tanker has been developed taking into consideration of powering performance in brash ice channels based on IA class rules. Speed performance of the ship hull form in normal seagoing has been validated through model tests in a towing tank. The hull form design developed in this work has demonstrated good speed performance in normal seagoing although the ship design is entitled to ice class IA.

  • Along with the fast development of electronics, the demands of portable electronics and wireless sensors are growing rapidly. The need for self-powering materials capable of powering the electrical devices attached to them is increasing, The piezoelectric effect of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) can be used for this purpose. PVDF has a special crystal structure consisting of a ${\beta}$-phase that can produce piezoelectricity. In this paper, multilayer PVDF films were fabricated to increase the ${\beta}$-phase content. A solution of 10% concentration N;N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) in PVDF (PVDF/DMAc) was used to fabricate the films via spin coating technique with the following optimum process parameters: a spin rate of 850 rpm, spin time of 60 s, drying temperature of $60^{\circ}C$, and drying time of 30 min, Compared with single-layer PVDF films, the multilayer films exhibited higher ${\beta}$-phase content. The ${\beta}$-phase content of the films increased gradually with increasing number of layers until 4, Maximum ratio of ${\beta}$-phase content was 7.72.

Comparative study of prediction methods of power increase and propulsive performances in regular head short waves of KVLCC2 using CFD

  • This paper employs computational tools to predict power increase (or speed loss) and propulsion performances in waves of KVLCC2. Two-phase unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been solved using finite volume method; and a realizable k-ε model has been applied for the turbulent closure. The free-surface is obtained by solving a VOF equation. Sliding mesh method is applied to simulate the flow around an operating propeller. Towing and self-propulsion computations in calm water are carried out to obtain the towing force, propeller rotating speed, thrust and torque at the self-propulsion point. Towing computations in waves are performed to obtain the added resistance. The regular short head waves of λ/LPP = 0.6 with 4 wave steepness of H/λ = 0.007, 0.017, 0.023 and 0.033 are taken into account. Four methods to predict speed-power relationship in waves are discussed; Taylor expansion, direct powering, load variation, resistance and thrust identity methods. In the load variation method, the revised ITTC-78 method based on the 'thrust identity' is utilized to predict propulsive performances in full scale. The propulsion performances in waves including propeller rotating speed, thrust, torque, thrust deduction and wake fraction, propeller advance coefficient, hull, propeller open water, relative rotative and propulsive efficiencies, and delivered power are investigated.
