Torque Ripple Minimization for Induction Motor Driven by a Photovoltaic Inverter

  • The paper presents a new photovoltaic inverter for stand-alone induction motor application. The proposed system is composed of two stages. First stage is for the photovoltaic dc power feeding and second stage is dedicated to the motor-inverter subsystem and control technique. A direct torque control (DTC) with a novel switching strategy for motor torque ripple minimization is introduced. The novel DTC strategy is based on selecting a suitable voltage vector group for motor torque ripple minimization. A three-level voltage source inverter (VSI) is used instead of a two level inverter because the first has more available vectors and lower ripples in the output current and flux than the second, thus it has lower torque ripples. The photovoltaic array and battery bank are sized and the configuration is indicated based on sun-hour methodology. Simulation results show a comparison between three systems; two level VSI with conventional DTC strategy, three level VSI with conventional DTC, and the proposed system that has a novel DTC switching strategy applied to three level VSI. The results show that the proposed system has lower ripples in the current, flux and torque of the motor.

  • This paper presents a new hybrid control scheme using Active-Clamped Class-E (ACCE) inverter of induction heating(IH) jar for high power applications. The proposed hybrid control scheme has characteristics, which act as class-E inverter at lower switch voltage and ACCE inverter at higher switch voltage than reference voltage of the main switch by feeding back voltage one as well as advantages of conventional ACCE inverter such as zero-voltage switching(ZVS) of the main switch and the reduced switch voltage due to the clamping circuit. Moreover, the proposed control method makes higher output power than conventional ACCE inverter control one since ACCE inverter is operated like class-E inverter at low voltage condition. The principle of the proposed control are explained in detail and the validity of the proposed control scheme is verified through the several interesting simulated and experimental results.

  • This paper presents harmonic evaluation of an IAT(Intra Airport Transit) system in Incheon International Airport. It will be used electric vehicles with 80 kW per car that are produced Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, and one car is constructed with SIV(Static Inverter), VVVF(Variable Voltage and Variable Frequency) and two induction motor. The operated vehicles in the IAT system are rapidly changing DC load, and at a feeding substation, 3-phase electric power is transferred to DC 750 V by rectifier. Since, vehicles are also changing continuously, the voltages for the DC load fluctuate in the IAT system, and moreover, the fluctuating voltages generate high-order harmonics. This means that there is the difficulty in maintaining power quality in KEPCO systems' side. Therefore, the power quality of the IAT system in Incheon International Airport is evaluated using PSCAD/EMTDC simulator in the paper. The THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) of voltages and TDD(Total Demand Distortion) of currents, indices are calculated for the IAT system using the results of PSCAD/EMTDC dynamic simulation.

  • The electric railway has been widely used as a transportation all over the world. It also was opened in 1973 in korea and it has been steadily proceeded in making electric railway network for a big city and building Keongbu high speed , electric railway. That's why the system of electric railway is able to solve the environmental pollution and operate the useful energy in environmental ways, it helps to increase the ability of transportation and to decrease the cost. Because of the advantage of making the economic situation better, the system of electric railway is trying to do their best in developing technique of electric railway. Because of the increasing of transportation and the high speed operation, cars with regenerative braking system was adapted. Therefore, unbalanced voltage and current of three phase system and the drop and rise of voltage of feeding circuit is expected. Now that building the substation, newly spends lots of costs and time, it is a very difficult situation to solve the problem. We can guess that electric railway line can't receive power from the power system of bigger size in building newly electric railway. In this paper, it was proved that series voltage compensator was suitable as a solution according to voltage drop and voltage fluctuating through computer simulation.

Effect of Ultrasonic Energy in the Engine using Diesel Fuel Blended Rape-seed Oil (유채혼합유를 사용하는 기관에서 초음파에너지의 영향)

  • The effect of ultrasonic energy for diesel fuel and blend oil has been revealed in this paper. The experimental setup consisted of a high speed diesel engine with 4 cylinder, dynamometer and ultrasonic fuel feeding system. Ultrasonic energy was added to diesel fuel and blend oil, which is a blend of diesel fuel and rape-seed oil. As engine speed was changed, engine torque and power, brake specific fuel consumption and thermal efficiency were measured in detail. As the results, by adding ultrasonic energy to diesel fuel and blend oil, the engine performance was improved in range of the experiment. The effect of improvement on brake specific fuel consumption and thermal efficiency for blend oil is higher than that for diesel fuel. When ultrasonic energy was added to diesel fuel or blend oil, a rise in engine torque for diesel fuel was higher than that for blend oil, but the effect of ultrasonic energy was small. From these results, it may be desirable to add ultrasonic energy to blend oil for the use of blend oil to diesel engine.

대기압 플라즈마 Photoresist Ashing에 관한 연구

  • 본 연구에서는 DBD (Dielectric Barrier Discharge)방식을 통해 발생된 대기압 plasma를 이용한 Photoresist (PR) Ashing에 관한 연구를 하였다. 사용된 DBD 반응기는 기존의 blank planar plate 형태의 Power가 인가되는 anode 부분과 Dielectric Barrier 사이 공간을 액상의 도전체로 채워 넣은 형태의 전극이 사용 하였으며, 인가 Power는 40 kHz AC 최대 인가 전압 15 kV를 사용 하였고(본 연구에서 인가 power는 30 KHz,전압 14 KV를 고정시킴) 플라즈마를 발생시 라디칼의 활성화를 유지하기 위해 전극 온도가 $180^{\circ}C$ 정하였다. Feeding 가스는 N2, 반응가스로는 CDA(Clean Dry Air), SF6와 CF4가스를 사용 하였으며 모든 공정은 In-line type으로 시편을 처리 하였다. CDA ratio의 경우에 질소대비 0.2%때 이송속도 30 mm/sec 1회 처리 기존 PR ashing은 최대 $320{\AA}$의 ashing 두께를 얻을 수 있었다. SF6와 CDA가스를 같이 반응하는 경우 ratio는 CDA : SF6 = 0.6% : 0.6%에서 PR ashing rate이 $841{\AA}/pass$의 값을 얻을 수 있었고, CDA가스만 첨가하는 경우보다 약2.6배 증가함을 관찰할 수 있었다. CF4 가스를 사용하는 경우 ratio는 CDA : CF4 = 0.2% : 0.2%에서 PR ashing rate이 $687{\AA}/pass$의 값을 얻을 수 있으며 CDA가스만 첨가하는 경우보다 약 2.1배 증가함을 관찰할 수 있었다. 그리고 PR ashing rate가 가스첨가종류와 비율에 따라서 변화함을 관찰하였고 최적조건을 찾기 위해 연구를 진행하였다. 추후 PR ashing rate가 향상을 하기 위해 가스혼합비율 및 stage 온도등 조건을 조절하여 공정최적조건을 얻기 위해 연구를 진행하였다.

  • As photovoltaic(PV) power generation system becomes more common, it will be necessary to investigate islanding detection method for PV systems. Islanding of PV systems can cause a variety of problems and must be prevented. However, if the real and reactive power of the load and PV system are closely matched, islanding detection by Passive methods becomes difficult. Also, most active methods lose effectiveness when there are several PV systems feeding the same island. The active frequency drift positive feedback method(AFDPF) enables islanding detection by forcing the frequency of the voltage in the island to drift up or down. In this paper the research for the minimum value of chopping fraction gain applied digital phase-locked-loop (DPLL) to AFDPF considering output power quality and islanding prevention performance are performed by simulation and experiment according to IEEE Std 929-2000 islanding test.

Population Dynamics Pattern of Green Peach Aphid (Homoptera: Aphididae) and Its Predator Complex in a Potato System

  • Green peach aphid, Myzus persicae(Sulzer) (Homoptera: Aphididae), interacts with many predatory insects in potato fields during the summer. The concept of the predator complex associated with green peach aphids was applied to explain the interactions between the aphid and its predators. The predator power of the predator complex was determined by two factors: the number of predators and the relative feeding capacity. The dynamics of the green peach aphid population was expressed by the number of individuals while the predator power was used to characterize the predator complex. Cumulative degree-days for green peach aphids were used as a time scale to analyze phonology and dynamics patterns of the aphid and its predator complex. The patterns of population changes in aphids were similar during the period of study(1993-1995) although the highest density of aphids fluctuated significantly from year to year. However, the predator power appeared more stable than the green peach aphid population over the three year period. The results indicated that the predator complex plays an important role to suppress the aphid populations during the latter part of the season and that the applications of control measures for green peach aphids in between the initiation and the peak timing of aphid populations are critical to minimize the damage on potatoes.

  • Simulation studies on catalytic methanation reaction in externally cooled tubular reactor filled with monolithic catalysts were carried out using a general purpose modelling tool $gPROMS^{(R)}$. We investigated the effects of operating parameters such as gas space velocity, temperature and pressure of feeding gas on temperature distribution inside the reactor, overall CO conversion, and chemical composition of product gas. In general, performance of methanation reaction is favored under low temperature and high pressure for a wide range of their values. However, methane production becomes negligible at temperatures below 573K when the reactor temperature is not high enough to ignite methanation reaction. Capacity enhancement of the reactor by increasing gas space velocity and/or gas inlet pressure resulted no significant reduction in reactor performance and heat transfer property of catalyst.

A New Waveshaper for Harmonic Mitigation in Vector Controlled Induction Motor Drives

  • This paper deals with a new wave shaping technique for cost effective harmonic mitigation in ac-dc converter feeding Vector Controlled Induction Motor Drives(VCIMD's) for improving power quality at the point of common coupling(PCC). The proposed harmonic mitigator consists of a polygon connected autotransformer based twelve-pulse ac-dc converter and a small rating passive shunt filter tuned for $11^{th}$ harmonic frequency. This ac-dc converter eliminates the most dominant $5^{th},\;7^{th},\;and\;11^{th}$ harmonics and imposes the reduction of other higher order harmonics from the ac main current, thereby improving the power quality at ac mains. The design of autotransformer is carried out for the proposed ac-dc converter to make it suitable for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse ac-dc converter is used. The effect of load variation on VCIMD is also studied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ac-dc converter in a wide operating range of the drive. Experimental results obtained on the developed laboratory prototype of the proposed harmonic mitigator are used to validate the model and design of the ac-dc converter.
