  • General hospitals have being under the influence of various and specific environment of electromagnetic field. The factors are development of medical electric equipment and device with enlarged functional demands, in high power and multi-frequency. It has all of both faces, EMI(electromagnetic interference) and EMS(electromagnetic susceptibility). In additional, expansion of personal communication system(cellular phone) has many unreliable factor of using time and area, making noise of electromagnetic fields. We studied actual conditions of EMI in the medical site, where is numerous medical equipment, especially central operation room and ICU(intensive care unit), AKR(artificial kidney room : hemo-dialysis unit), etc. The influence, most of medical equipments made electromagnetic nosie has various factors in its band of frequency, harmonics and strength. In the experimental use of electro-surgical unit and cellular phone, noticeable and considerable noise of eletromagnetic fields were measured. All of that can make trouble and errors on the steadiness of bioelectrical devices. In conclusion, It is necessary to reconsiderations of reallocating EMI source vs. EMS factor, and set to definite forbiding area of using cellular phone. For maintenance of steady normal conditions, in spite of existing any other legal standards of safty level, it need considering all of alternative electromagnetic situations on a case-by-case basis.

  • An electromagnetic generator with variable stimulation parameters is required to conduct basic research on magnetic flux density and frequency for pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs). In this study, we design an electromagnetic generator that can conduct basic research by providing parameters optimized for cell and animal experimental conditions through adjustable stimulation parameters. The magnetic core was selected as a solenoid capable of uniform and stable electromagnetic stimulation. The solenoid was designed in consideration of the experimental mouse and cell culture dish insertion. A voltage and current adjustable power supply for variable magnetic flux density was designed. The system was designed to be adjustable in frequency and pulse width and to enable 3-channel output. The reliability of the system and solenoid was evaluated through magnetic flux density, frequency, and pulse width measurements. The measured magnetic flux density was expressed as an image and qualitatively observed. Based on the acquired image, the stimulation area according to the magnetic flux density decrease rate was extracted. The PEMF frequency and pulse width error rates were presented as mean ± SD, and were confirmed to be 0.0928 ± 0.0934% and 0.529 ± 0.527%, respectively. The magnetic flux density decreased as the distance from the center of the solenoid increased, and decreased sharply from 60 mm or more. The length of the magnetic stimulation area according to the degree of magnetic flux density decrease was obtained through the magnetic flux density image. A PEMF generator and stimulation parameter control system suitable for cell and animal models were designed, and system reliability was evaluated.

  • Design procedure of corrugated horn antenna for the mm-wave frequency range is presented, and hybrid condition in horn is calculated. In this paper, corrugate profiles of horn which satisfy both transition to balanced hybrid condition and fabrication possibility under the mm-wave short wavelength are obtained. Electromagnetic fields inside horn and corrugation are derived by the cylindrical mode theory. Propagation characteristics in the horn are calculated by the mode impedance matching method with boundary conditions, and radiation fields are obtained by the Kirchhoff-Hyugen principle to the horn aperture fields. A mm-wave corrugated horn antenna which operates on $85{\sim}115GHz$ is fabricated by electric forming method. Measurements show that VSWR is under 1.3:1 over whole band and the half power beamwidth on radiation pattern 9.2, 9.16 and 9.02 degree on 85, 100 and 110 GHz are agree well with theoretical calculation.

  • This paper deals with a measurement system of a distance between lightning strokes and observatory station and spectrum analysis of electric fields radiated from lightning discharges. The distance measurement system, which consists of a loop type magnetic field sensor, a microphone and one chip microprocessor, is connected to a personal computer through RS232 port to acquire and process the data. This system is to use a difference of propagation velocity between an electromagnetic wave and a sonic wave produced by lightning discharge. Also, an electric field waveform and a frequency spectrum were investigated by an electric field measurement system with a hemisphere antenna and a spectrum analyzer with a biconical antenna and a log-periodic antenna, respectively. The results would be used as a basic reference to protect the power systems and electric circuits from lightning overvoltages.

  • In this paper, the inductive power collector using electromagnetic induction for vehicle such as the PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) system is suggested and son ideas for power collector design to improve tile power transfer performance are presented. And also, the analysis of the inductive power transfer system in conjunction with series resonant converter operating variable high frequency is shown. Of particular interest is the sensitivity of the complete system to variations in operational frequency and parameters. In inductive power transfer system electrical power is transferred from a primary winding in the form of a coil or tract to one or more isolated pick-up coils that my relative to the primary. The ability to transmit power without contact enables high reliability and easy maintenance that allows inductive power transfer system to be implemented in hostile environments. This technology has found application in many fields such as electric vehicles, PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) etc. But, low output power is generated due to a loosely coupled characteristic of the large air-gap. Therefore, we will show you various characteristic of inductive power transfer system as double layer construction of secondary winding, which was divided in half to increase both output current and output voltage, a model of power collector and parallel winding structure, a model of concentration/ decentralization winding and the effects of parameter and operational frequency variation.

  • The near field radiated from the monopole antenna of the cellular phone was calculated by using the modified finite difference time domain algorithm derived from the integral form of Maxwell's equations. Substituting the near field value into the differential form of Maxwell's equations, SAR's distribution in the human head was obtained. The human head was simulated by a model of 800,000 block cells with dielectric constant and conductivity. The cell size was taken to be 0.5 cm. the transmitted power of the cellular phone was assumed to be 0.6 watts at the frequency of 833 MHz. The distance between the head and the cellular phone was 2.0 cm, the maximum SAR induced in the human head was about 1.5 W/kg and was below the IEEE's upper safety limit of 1.6 W/kg.

  • Spectrum analyzer and electromagnetic field meter were used to investigate the EM generation behaviour in different types of home electrical appliances. During microwave oven operation, the EM power measured at a point 30cm apart was measured in the range of 8~11mW/㎡, the strength of the low frequency magnetic field was 60~80mG and the electric field strength was measured at 150~160V/m. For smart phone wireless charging pad, it was measured at an electromagnetic power of 0.4mW/㎡, an electric field of 160 V/m and a magnetic field of 1mG at a point 10cm away. For microwave oven and wireless charging pad, if used within 10cm, the size of the electric field has been measured at a large value that exceeds the human body protection standard and may be hazardous to humans. On the other hand, home appliances such as TVs, hairdryers and refrigerators all showed very low levels of electromagnetic waves, electric fields and magnetic fields, with no harmful effects seen. For electromagnetic shielding, the metal Cu fabric and metal foil had a high level of EM shielding, while polymer films had a low EM shielding characteristic.

  • Electromagnetic wave may induce effect and damage on the bio-body, either by electric fields of magnetic fields. We measure electrophysiological changs in rabbit's brain exposed to 2.45GHz micro wave(power density 40mW/cm$^2$) which distance 30cm from the source. In order to process the bio-electrical signal (EEG), used pre-amplifier module with self-made and Digtal analyzer computer system. Spectal analysis of the EEG showed variable power in the frequency range(1~30Hz) through each exposure time(10min, 20min, 30min) before and after. In effectively measured by the bio-electrical signal processing and can found threshold of minmal permissible exposure and lethal exposure.
