This paper proposes a control method for maintaining the energy level for a supercapacitor energy storage system coupled with a wind generator to stabilize wind power output. Although wind power is green and clean energy source, disadvantage of the renewable energy output power is fluctuation. In order to mitigate the fluctuating output power, supercapacitor energy storage system (SCESS) and wind power simulator is developed. A remaining energy supercapacitor (RESC) control is introduced and analyzed to smooth for short-term fluctuating power and maintain the supercapacitor voltage within the designed operating range in the steady as well as transient state. When the average and fluctuating component of power increases instantaneously, the RESC compensates fluctuating power and the variation of fluctuating power is reduced 100% to 30% at 5kW power. Furthermore, supercapacitor voltage is maintained within the operating voltage range and near 50% of total energy. Feasibility of SCESS with RESC control is verified through simulation and experiment.
This paper proposes a novel control method for a multi-output switched-resonant converter. Output voltage can be regulated against variations in the supply voltage and load by controlling the voltage of the resonant capacitor (pulse amplitude control). Precise control is possible when pulse amplitude control is combined with pulse number control. The converter is analyzed, and design considerations are explained by using examples. Control implementation is described and load regulation and ripples are analyzed by simulation and hardware results. The topology is modified to obtain an additional negative output without any additional hardware other than a diode. The analysis of such a triple output converter with two positive outputs and one negative output is conducted and confirmed. The topology and control scheme are scalable to any number of outputs.

As the number of wind turbines installed increase, the power from wind energy starts to replace conventional generation units and its influence on power system can not be neglected. Because of the intermittent nature of wind resource, the output power of wind turbine fluctuates according to wind speed variation. In this point of view, it is necessary for wind turbines to be equipped with power regulation ability. The doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is one of the main techniques used in variable speed wind turbines. This thesis focuses on the development of modified control scheme of DFIG to regulate output power. The proposed control scheme achieves active power output regulation so as to stabilize the power system.

Induction cooking application with multiple loads need high power inverters and appropriate control techniques. This paper proposes an inverter configuration with buck-boost converter for multiple load induction cooking application with independent control of each load. It uses one half-bridge for each load. For a given dc supply of $V_{DC}$, one more $V_{DC}$ is derived using buck-boost converter giving $2V_{DC}$ as the input to each half-bridge inverter. Series resonant loads are connected between the centre point of $2V_{DC}$ and each half-bridge. The output voltage across each load is like that of a full-bridge inverter. In the proposed configuration, half of the output power is supplied to each load directly from the source and remaining half of the output power is supplied to each load through buck-boost converter. With buck-boost converter, each half-bridge inverter output power is increased to a full-bridge inverter output power level. Each half-bridge is operated with constant and same switching frequency with asymmetrical duty cycle (ADC) control technique. By ADC, output power of each load is independently controlled. This configuration also offers reduced component count. The proposed inverter configuration is simulated and experimentally verified with two loads. Simulation and experimental results are in good agreement. This configuration can be extended to multiple loads.
This paper proposes a Direct Power Control (DPC) scheme of improved command tracking capability for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) Medium Voltage (MV) Wind Turbines. Benchmarking is performed based on a neutral point clamped three-level back-to-back type voltage source converter. It is introduced to design the DPC modeling and propose DPC scheme of a three-level NPC (3L-NPC) converter. During the fault condition in wind farms, the proposed control scheme directly controls the generated output power to the command value from the hierarchical wind farm controller. The proposed control scheme is compared with conventional control scheme as respect to loss and thermal analysis. The DPC scheme of improved command tracking capability is confirmed through PLECS simulations. Simulation result shows that proposed control scheme achieves a much shorter transient time in a step response of generated output power. The proposed control scheme makes it possible to provide a good dynamic performance for PMSG MV wind turbine to generate a high quality output power under grid fault condition.
This paper proposes a new power flow control method for soft-switched, four channel, five level resonant buck dc-dc converters. These converters have two input channels, which can be supplied from sources with identical or different voltages, and four output channels with arbitrary output voltages. They are specially designed to supply multilevel inverters. The design methodology for their power flow control has been developed considering a general case when the input voltages, output voltages and loads can be asymmetrical. A special emphasize is paid to the limitations and restrictions of operation. The theoretical studies are confirmed by numerical simulations and laboratory tests carried out at various operation points. Exploiting the advantages of the newly proposed power control strategy, the converter can supply five level inverters in dc microgrids, active filters, power factor correctors and electric drives. They can also play an interfacing role in renewable energy systems.

This paper introduces a new methodology to apply the interpolation technique wi th optimum pattern to voltage-reactive power control of power system. The conventional tool for the optimal operation of power system is Optimal Power Flow(OPF) by standard optimization techniques. The achievement of solution through OPF programs has a defect of computation time, so that it is impossible to apply the OPF programs to the real-time control area. The proposed method presents a solution in a short period of time and an output with a good accuracy. The optimum pattern is a set of input-output pairs, where an input is a load level and a type of outage and an output is the result of OPF program corresponding to the input. The output in the OPF represents control variables of voltage-reactive power control. The interpolation technique is used to obtain the solution for an arbitrary input. As a result, the new technique helps operators in the process of the real-time voltage-reactive power control in both normal and emergency operating states.
In this paper, the boost converter was implemented by digital control in many applications of the step-up. The PWM(pulse width modulation) control module of boost converter was digitized at power converter using the FPGA device and VHDL. The boost converter was designed to output a fixed voltage through the PI control algorithm of the PWM control module even if input voltage and output load are variable. The boost converter was digitized can be simplified by reducing the size of the module and the external control components. Thus, the digital power IC has advantageous for weight reduction and miniaturization of electronic products because it can be controlled remotely by setting the desired output voltage and PWM control module. The boost converter using the digital power IC was confirmed through experiments and the good performances were showed from experiment results.
In this paper, analysis and control design of ac-dc converter, normally nonlinear time-varying system, using sliding mode controller to achieve fast output voltage response, disturbance rejection and robust system in the presence of load variation are demonstrated. The objective of this method is to develop methodology for output voltage to be constant and input current sinusoidal that results in nearly unity power factor, respectively. In addition the converter can be also bidirectional power flow. Simulation results using Matlab/Simulink show the effectiveness of sliding mode control system compared with linear feedback controller to guarantee enhanced PF>0.98, THD<5%, and ripple output voltage is less than 1% at the maximum output power.

In this study, an automatic command mode transition strategy of direct power control (DPC) is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) medium-voltage (MV) offshore wind turbines (WTs). Benchmarking against the control methods are performed based on a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) back-to-back type voltage source converter (VSC). The ramping rate criterion of complex power is utilized to select the switching vector in DPC for a three-level NPC converter. With a grid command and an MPPT mode transition strategy, the proposed control method automatically controls the generated output power to satisfy a grid requirement from the hierarchical wind farm controller. The automatic command mode transition strategy of DPC is confirmed through PLECS simulations based on Matlab. The simulation result of the automatic mode transition strategy shows that the proposed control method of VOC and DPC achieves a much shorter transient time of generated output power than the conventional control methods of MPPT and VOC under a step response. The proposed control method helps provide a good dynamic performance for PMSGs MV offshore WTs, thereby generating high quality output power.
