Compact power amplifier modules (PAM) for WCDMA/KPCS and GSM/WCDMA dual-band applications based on multilayer low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrates are presented in this paper. The proposed modules are composed of an InGaP/GaAs HBT PAs on top of the LTCC substrates and passive components such as RF chokes and capacitors which are embedded in the substrates. The overall size of the modules is less than 6mm $\times$ 6mm $\times$ 0.8mm. The measured result shows that the PAM delivers a power of 28 dBm with a power added efficiency (PAE) of more than 30 % at KPCS band. The adjacent-channel power ratio (ACPR) at 1.25-MHz and 2.25-MHz offset is -44dBc/30kHz and -60dBc/30kHz, respectively, at 28-dBm output power. Also, the PAM for WCDMA band exhibits an output power of 27 dBm and 32-dB gain at 1.95 GHz with a 3.4-V supply. The adjacent-channel leakage ratio (ACLR) at 5-MHz and 10-MHz offset is -37.5dBc/3.84MHz and -48dBc/3.84MHz, respectively. The measured result of the GSM PAM shows an output power of 33.4 dBm and a power gain of 30.4 dB at 900MHz with a 3.5V supply. The corresponding power added efficiency (PAE) is more than 52.6 %.
This paper proposes probabilistic reliability evaluation model of power system considering Wind Turbine Generator(WTG) integrated with Energy Storage System(ESS). Monte carlo sample state duration simulation method is used for the evaluation. Because the power output from WTG units usually fluctuates randomly, the power cannot be counted on to continuously satisfy the system load. Although the power output at any time is not controllable, the power output can be utilized by ESS. The ESS may make to smooth the fluctuation of the WTG power output. The detail process of power system reliability evaluation considering ESS cooperated WTG is presented using case study of Jeju island power system in the paper.
ISO 26262 is an international standard for the functional safety of electric and electronic systems in vehicles, and this standard has become a major issue in the automotive industry. In this paper, a functional safety compliant electronic control unit (ECU) for an electric power steering (EPS) system and a demonstration purposed EPS system are developed, and a software and hardware structure for a safety critical system is presented. EPS is the most recently introduced power steering technology for vehicles, and it can improve driver’s convenience and fuel efficiency. In conformity with the design process specified in ISO 26262, the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) of an EPS system is evaluated, and hardware and software are designed based on an asymmetric dual processing unit architecture and an external watchdog. The developed EPS system effectively demonstrates the fault detection and diagnostic functions of a functional safety compliant ECU as well as the basic EPS functions.
Computer aided engineering (CAE) is a systematic approach to develop a better product/application with maximum possible options and minimum transition time. This paper presents a comprehensive feasibility analysis of various CAE techniques for evaluation and optimization of power electronic converters and systems. Different CAE methods for analysis, design, and performance improvement are classified. In addition, their advantages compared to the conventional workbench experimental methods are explained in detail and through examples.

This paper refers to fundamental investigations and simulations of conducted electromagnetic inference emissions produced by power electronic devices in a frequency range from 2 to 10 kHz. The emissions of different industrial power converters were measured and compared. The influence of different working conditions over the altitude of the EMI are represented. Simulations of the power converter system including the line impedance stabilisation network certify the measurements.

A power electronic transformer (PET) based on the cascaded H-bridge (CHB) and the isolated bidirectional DC/DC converter (IBDC) is capable of accommodating a large scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in the medium-voltage grid, and is referred to as a power electronic transformer based battery energy storage system (PET-BESS). This paper investigates the PET-BESS and proposes a coordinative control strategy for it. In the proposed method, the CHB controls the power flow and the battery state-of-charge (SOC) balancing, while the IBDC maintains the dc-link voltages with feedforward implementation of the power reference and the switch status of the CHB. State-feedback and linear quadratic Riccati (LQR) methods have been adopted in the CHB to control the grid current, active power and reactive power. A hybrid PWM modulating method is utilized to achieve SOC balancing, where battery SOC sorting is involved. The feedforward path of the power reference and the CHB switch status substantially reduces the dc-link voltage fluctuations under dynamic power variations. The effectiveness of the proposed control has been verified both by simulation and experimental results. The performance of the PET-BESS under bidirectional power flow has been improved, and the battery SOC values have been adjusted to converge.
This paper presents a topology for a modular power electronic transformer (PET) and a control scheme. The proposed PET consists of a cascaded H-Bridge rectifier on the primary side, a high-frequency DC/DC conversion cell in the center, and a cascaded H-Bridge inverter on the secondary side. It is practical to use PETs in power systems to reduce the cost, weight and size. A detailed analysis of the structure is carried out by using equivalent circuit. An algorithm to control the voltages of each capacitor and to maintain the power flow in the PET is established. The merits are analyzed and verified in theory, including the bi-directional power flow, variable voltage/frequency and high power factor on the primary side. The experimental results validated the propose structure and algorithm.

The efficient power MOSFET inverter applied for a simple and low cost power supply is proposed for driving the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) lamp load. For decades, the DBD phenomenon has been used for ozone gas production in industry. In this research, the ultraviolet and visible light sources utilizing the DBD lamp is considered as the load for solid-state high frequency power supply. It is found that the simple voltage-source single-ended quasi-resonant ZVS inverter with only one active power switch could effectively drive this load with the output power up to 700 W. The pulse density modulation based control scheme for the single-ended quasi-resonant ZVS inverter using a low voltage and high current power MOSFET switching device is proposed to provide a linear power regulation characteristic in the wide range 0-100% of the full power as compared with the conventional control based Royer type parallel resonant inverter type power supplies.
PV simulators are essential equipment for testing power conditioning systems (PCS) which are one of an important part in PV generator systems, for testing before shipment. High dynamic PV simulator is required since MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) test procedure has been established by EN50530 regulation recently. Most high quality PV simulator prevailed in the market is linear type which however has low efficiency. This paper proposes design guide lines for the power stage and LCL type filter cooperating with a switching mode PV simulator that shows high efficiency and very low power consumption. Proposed theory is verified by experiment.
