  • The power comparison techniques have implemented power measurements, in which a power comparator is used to balance ac against a dc power obtained from known values. The developed power standard system using the comparison techniques consists of dc sources, ac source, control switches, resistive voltage dividers, resistive shunts and a power comparator. The total uncertainty of the power standard system was proved by analysis of the component instruments. Its expanded(k=2) uncertainty is evaluated to be less than 30 uW/VA at unit power factor and 42 uW/VA at power factor 0.5

  • In this paper presents comparison of performance of flexible solar cells construction applied to curtain walls. The proposed paper compares power generation for curtain walls of various shapes using flexible PV. Through the comparison of performance, the power generation was compared by installing various types of flexible PV on the air layer of double windows. By comparing the measured power generation, it is possible to find an optimal flexible PV shape that can be applied to a curtain wall. Flexible PV installation was divided into diagonal, S and W shapes. As a result of comparison, the amount of power generation when there was no flexure of flexible PV was large. Also, as the angle with the light source increased, the power generation decreased. Therefore, it is necessary to study the structure which can fix the PV more than the flexible PV and to be able to direct the sun without distortion.

  • In-phase control and energy-optimized control are the two major control strategies proposed for series power quality controllers (SPQC). However quantitative analysis and comparison between these two control strategies is quite limited in previous publications. In this paper, an extensive quantitative analysis is carried out on these two control strategies through phasor diagram approach, and a detailed quantitative comparison is conducted accordingly. The load current is used as the reference phasor, and this leads to a simpler and clearer phasor diagram for the quantitative relationship. Subsequently detailed analysis of SPQC using in-phase control and energy-optimized control are provided respectively, under different modes both for under voltage/voltage sag and for over voltage/voltage swell. The closed form analytic expressions and the curves describing SPQC compensation characteristics are obtained. The detailed system power flow is figured out for each mode, and the detailed quantitative comparison between the two control strategies is then carried out. The comparison covers several aspects of SPQC, such as required compensating voltage magnitude, required capacity of energy storage component, and maximal ride-through time. In the end, computer simulation and prototype experimental results are shown to verify the validity of all the analysis and the result of the comparison.

  • Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) is the big issue in generating power based on Wind Energy Conversion System. In case of unknown turbine characteristic, it is useful to implement MPPT based on fuzzy logic control. This kind of control is able to find the value of duty cycle to meet maximum power point at particular wind speed. There are many methods to develop MPPT based fuzzy logic controls. In this paper, two of the methods are compared both at low and high fluctuating wind speed.

  • Power electronics is a key technology for electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles. Typical power electronics converters used in electric drive vehicles include dc/dc converters, inverters, and battery chargers. New semiconductor materials such as silicon carbide (SiC) and novel topologies such as the Z-source inverter (ZSI) have a great deal of potential to improve the overall performance of these vehicles. In this paper, a Z-source inverter for fuel cell vehicle application is examined under three different scenarios. 1. a ZSI with Si IGBT modules, 2. a ZSI with hybrid modules, Si IGBTs/SiC Schottky diodes, and 3. a ZSI with SiC MOSFETs/SiC Schottky diodes. Then, a comparison of the three scenarios is conducted. Conduction loss, switching loss, reverse recovery loss, and efficiency are considered for comparison. A conclusion is drawn that the SiC devices can improve the inverter and inverter-motor efficiency, and reduce the system size and cost due to the low loss properties of SiC devices. A comparison between a ZSI and traditional PWM inverters with SiC devices is also presented in this paper. Based on this comparison, the Z-source inverter produces the highest efficiency.

  • This paper describes the performance comparison results for current controller of a single-phase PFC converter with 1-switch voltage doubler strategy for single-phase double-conversion UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply). A single-phase PFC converter with 1-switch voltage doubler strategy needs a diode bridge and one bidirectional active switch. Thus it is possible to reduce the material cost. However, the study results of current controller design and comparison of current control method has not been known after the converter circuit was proposed. For the performance comparison of current control, single-phase 3 kVA double-conversion UPS was tested. The performance of PI and PR current controller is experimentally confirmed with followings - input current reference tracking, input power factor correction and input current THD suppression.

  • This paper compares two instantaneous reactive power definitions in DFIG wind turbine with a back-to-back three-level neutral-point clamped voltage source converter under unbalanced grid conditions. In general, conventional definition of instantaneous reactive power is obtained by taking an imaginary component of complex power. The other definition of instantaneous reactive power can be developed based on a set of voltages lagging the grid input voltages by 90 degree. A complex quantity referred as a quadrature complex power is defined. Proposed definition of instantaneous reactive power is derived by taking a real component of quadrature complex power. The characteristics of two instantaneous reactive power definitions are compared using the ripple-free stator active power control algorithm in DFIG. Instantaneous reactive power definition based on quadrature complex power has a simpler current reference calculation control block. Ripple of instantaneous active and reactive power has the same magnitude unlike in conventional definition under grid unbalance. Comparison results of two instantaneous reactive power definitions are verified through simulation.

  • Inference on the present data will be more reliable when the data arising from previous similar studies are available. The data arising from previous studies are referred as historical data. The power prior is defined by the likelihood function based on the historical data to the power $a_0$, where $0\;{\le}\;a_0\;{\le}\;1$. The power prior is a useful informative prior for Bayesian inference such as model selection and model comparison. We utilize the historical data to perform multiple comparison in the one-way ANOVA model. We demonstrate our results with some simulated datasets under a simple order restriction between the treatments.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the amount of available wave power and its characteristics related to the development of apractical system for ocean wave energy conversion in Korean coastal waters. The analysis method of wave power was established through comparison between theory and numerical simulation of deep sea wave by Inverse Fourier Transform with random phase method. Based on the results of comparison, wave power was estimated by use of data set from observed offshore and coastal waves and hindasted deep sea waves around the Korean peninsula. Annual mean wave power is estimated as about 1.8 ~ 7.0 kW for every metre of wave frontage at East sea, 1.5~5.3 kW at South sea and 1.0 ~ 4.1 kW at West sea, respectively. Mean wave power along deep sea front of coastal waters of Korea amounts to about 4.7 GW. Regional distribution and seasonal variation of wave power were discussed to develop practical utilization system of wave power of not so high grade of available wave power.
