A Study on Automatic Switching System for Fault Locator (고장점 표정반 자동절체 시스템에 대한 연구)

  • A directional feeding method at the railway transformer is applied for supplying the power to the electric railway substations, and the pre-installed facilities with common feeder are utilized in preparation for the failure of feeding system and in finding a fault location in case that the catenary failure occurs. However, it is some difficulty in finding the fault location since there is an interface problem with the facilities when the supplying power system operates. In this paper, Auto Fault Locator Transfer Drive System (ALTDS) is designed to search for the fault location efficiently, and the measuring data are obtained and compared with the KORAIL standards. Further, the ground connection test is accomplished 24 times as the verification method, and it is shown that the methodology provides better performance than the existing traditional one.

Selection of Transformer for the Augmentation of an Existing AIS EHV Substation in Hilly Terrain at 3000m+ Altitude

  • Augmentation of existing EHV substations located in hilly terrain and at high altitude require many different considerations as compared to substations located in plain areas and at lower altitude. Owing to high altitude and steep terrain, meticulous engineering and preparations are required, considering the actual available space at the existing substation. Historical fault events too must be considered to enhance reliability and performance of the substation equipment. This paper proposes ways to augment the existing 2 banks of 20MVA, 220/66kV power transformers ($3{\times}6.67MVA$, single-phase) to $2{\times}50$/63MVA, 220/66kV power transformers to meet continuously increasing demand of the capital city over the next 20 years. Upgrading and augmentation of existing substations, especially the main transformers and associated equipment, require replacement with minimum or no disturbance to the existing power supply system. Considerations should also be made during engineering and design, the operational flexibilities, maintenance aspects, future expandability and value addition, in terms of reliability and space usage of the existing substation.

  • In this paper we introduce preventative and diagnostic systems developed to prevent substations from accidental fault of electric power transmitting apparatus. We propose monitoring and diagnostic system for ultra high voltage GIS and main transformer of 765kV substations as an example of preventative and diagnostic techniques being applied in Korea. We also present a guideline to construct and manage an expert system for this purpose. Finally, an engineering solution as a substation management support system is proposed.

  • 안정적인 전력공급을 위해 전력설비 진단이 중요시 되고 있고 이를 위해 변전기기인 변압기의 초기고장 검출을 통한 예방진단 기술을 필요로 하고 있다. 변압기 예방진단 기술 중에서도 유중가스진단은 가장 오래되고 신뢰성이 입증된 기술이다. 기존의 유중가스진단법들은 가스비분석법을 이용하고 있는데 대상 가스들이 절연유에의 열화에 의해 발생하는 가스들이고 주위 운전환경에 대한 고려가 부족하여 진단이 불가능하거나 진단오류가 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 절연유뿐만 아니라 고체절연물에 대한 열화를 고려하기 위하여 변압기 내부 결함 모의 시험 쳄버를 제작하고 시험 결과를 바탕으로 진단 알고리즘을 개발하고자 한다.

  • This paper presents the 3-phase hybrid series active power filter with dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) which serve as an energy buffer and current harmonics blocking resistor connected to sensitive loads, such as, to compensate voltage dips and current harmonics in power distribution system. The DVR is to inject a dynamically controlled voltage generated by a forced commutated converter in series to the bus voltage by means of a booster transformer. The momentary amplitudes of the three injected phase voltages are controlled such as to eliminate any detrimental effects of a bus fault to the load voltage. The proposed system is able to simultaneously compensate current harmonics, voltage fluctuating and voltage unbalance in power distribution systems. The reference phase angle detected by synchronized with the positive sequence component of the unbalanced source by using symmetrical component transformation. The effectiveness of proposed system is verified by the computer simulation.

  • The DGA (Dissolved Gases Analysis) technique has been widely using for fault diagnosis of the power transformers. This technique has a high reliability than other techniques. KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Cooperation) has been using DGA technique since KEPCO established the criteria of DGA in 1985. In this paper, we introduce the DGA criteria of KEPCO and analyze the result of DGA. Also we introduce the cases of thoroughgoing inspection of the power transformers caused by DGA and compare the judgment of DGA with the result of throughgoing inspection.

  • This paper describers the power demand and the voltage stability in power system. Especially the power demand on summer is more and more increase in korea. According to load quantity is increasing voltage is getting down. And power system becomes unstable. So this paper is prevent voltage down using to ULTC modeling which is a part in a transformer. Therefore our purpose is power system stability increasing as variable state like a load increasing or a fault. Then this paper is using IPLAN and PSS/E as analysis tool. PSS/E is very powerful engine on load flow analysis. And IPLAN is capable of using on variable program compiling with user.

  • This paper described the unbalanced voltage on the tertiary bus of a single Phase auto transformer in the case of parallel operation with different manufacturer at each Phase. The unbalanced capacitances between primary to secondary winding, secondary to tertiary winding and primary to tertiary winding makes unbalanced bus voltage in the tertiary bus side. The unbalanced voltage let the surge arrester to operate in the power frequency range, and it causes the arrester to burn out. The failure of the arrester at one phase makes line to ground fault, which lead to the surge arrester failure of the other two phase on the tertiary bus.

Short-circuit Analysis of Solenoid and Pancake Type Bifilar Winding Magnets using BSCCO tape

  • To verify the feasibility of bifilar winding type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using BSCCO tape, two types of magnets were fabricated and tested by short-circuit in this research. Even if the FCL using high Tc superconducting (HTS) tape has zero resistance in normal state, it needs to be wound as a bifilar winding for zero inductance. Solenoid type and pancake type bifilar winding magnets are designed and fabricated with the same length of BSCCO tape. The test system consists of AC power supply, transformer, fault switch, load and bifilar winding magnet. The applied AC voltages during fault duration, 0.1s, were from 0.5V to 20V. The test results without bifilar winding magnet were compared with those with each type magnets. The test results include voltage against magnet, transport current and generated resistance curve. Thermal stability, the recovery time, was studied from the results of two type magnets. The pancake type was the most effective to limit fault current but the solenoid type was thermally the most stable. From this research, short-circuit characteristics of the two types were obtained.

  • In general, AT(Auto-transformer) is used to improve voltage sag and inductive interference in power lines and communication lines in AC electrical railway feeding system. Especially, Korean AT feeding system has different composition compared to other countries like Japan or France, so that it has some special characteristics. However, relays imported from other countries have been used in Korea, and settings of these relays should be modified and reflect distinct characteristics of Korean AT feeding system. Therefore, study about fault analysis based on modeled AT feeding system is important. In this paper, we modeled a single track AT feeding system by using PSCAD and analyzed fault current flow in case of trolley-rail short circuit fault. Finally, we presented current magnitude of each branch expressed by boosting current of AT.
