  • This paper presents an advanced dynamic simulation model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell for the optimal design of a fuel cell power conditioning system (FC-PCS). For the development of fuel cell models, the dynamic characteristics of the fuel cell are considered, including its static characteristics. Then, software fuel cell simulation is realized using Matlab-Simulink. Specifically, the design consideration of PCS (i.e., power semiconductor switch, capacitor, and inductor) is discussed by comparatively analyzing the developed simulator and ideal DC source. In addition, a cosimulation between the fuel cell model and PCS realized using the PSIM software is performed with the help of the SimCoupler module. Detailed analysis and informative simulation results are provided for the optimal design of fuel cell PCS.

  • EI core inductor in power electronic circuit simulation is usually assumed as linear by using matrix model. However, nonlinear magnetic characteristics such as B-H characteristic are also important for the accurate simulation of the circuit behavior. To model nonlinear magnetic characteristics of EI core inductor with only DC bias table, this paper presents a method in PLECS simulation tool which is a commercially available simulation tool for power electronics circuit analysis. Comparing with ideal matrix model, the simplification and accuracy are improved by this modeling method. Also, compared to analysis by FEM, it is much simpler, faster and easier to simulate with power electronics circuit. Validation of the proposed model was verified by simulation and experiment results.

  • Power consumption measurement in sensor network is difficult to proceed by survey in real field. Thus, through simulation, the power consumption is estimated and replacement time of nodes are decided. A simulation tool simulates various facts such as power consumption, packet transmission traffic, network topology and etc. In this paper, it suggests sensor node power model to simulate power consumption which has large importance among simulation facts in sensor network. This model omits calculating expressions that the data originally surveyed can substitute with, according to power consumption property of each functions in sensor node in order to minimize calculations in simulation. In this case accuracy of power consumption estimation will be reduced, but can simulate it faster due to reduced calculation. Suggested model is fitted to analyze power consumption difference between two or more sensor network algorithms with rapid simulation speed rather than accurate simulation.

  • This paper reports a set of digital time-domain simulation studies conducted on 154 kV wound Potential Transformer(PT) int he 154 kV Gas Insulated Substation(GIS). The Electro-Magnetic Transient Program(EMTP) is used to develop the PT model and conduct the transient studies. The accuracy of the PT model is verified through comparison of the EMTP simulation results with those obtained from the field test results. The investigations shows that the developed model can accurately predict PT transient resonance, especially, the phenomenon of ferroresonance. The model is developed not only to determine impact of transients on PT response but also to design ferroresonance suppressor devices of PT. And it can also be used to predict PT transient response on power system monitoring and protection scheme.

  • Although the upland field area of Korea is high as 44.8%, the platform optimized for the upland field is insufficient. It is necessary to develop an optimized platform for the upland field because the upland field environment is an irregular environment with many slopes. In addition, due to the characteristic of agricultural operations, the traction power and torque of the platform have to be sufficient. Therefore, in this study, a simulation model that can predict the traction power and driving torque of a crawler-type platform for the upland field was developed and validated using the specifications of the crawler platform. The simulation model was developed using Amesim (19.1, Siemens, Germany). The development of the model was conducted using the specifications of the platform. A measurement system was developed to validate the simulation model. The traction power data of the simulation model was validated with the traction force and vehicle speed. The driving torque data of the simulation model was validated with the torque of the sprocket on the crawler system. As a result of the analysis, the error between measurement and simulation results occurred within 10%, and it was determined that the traction power and driving torque prediction of the crawler platform using this model was possible.

  • The importance of renewable energy technology is discussed and next generation power transmission networks, which is called the smart grid, are constructed in developed countries. However for construction and operation of the smart grid, it is required not only to develop the electrical power generation technologies and transmission equipments but also to study systematic analysis and optimization for design and operation of the smart grid. In this paper we study electrical power trade in the smart grid using operations research models and simulation methods. We also consider future electrical power exchange markets in Korea and build four scenarios and the related optimization and simulation models, which reflect electrical power transaction pricing strategies of stake-holders. We can also simulate electrical power exchange market and analyze the results of electrical power trading, which can give us some insights for future electrical power exchange market.

  • The fluctuation of the output power of wind farms will be able to cause the impact on the Jeju power system such as power quality and stability. To settle the matter, many researchers have proposed the use of the BESS(Battery Energy Storage System) in the wind farm. In this paper, The BESS is applied to each wind farms for mitigating the fluctuation of wind power output. The BESS is controlled for smoothing the output of wind farms. Two kinds of simulation will be carried out. First, the simulation results by using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation program are compared to the measured data from the real power grid in Jeju Island. The other is to analyze the output of wind farms when the BESS is applied to the simulation works. The simulation results will demonstrate the effectiveness of using BESS to stabilize for power grid in Jeju Island.

  • There are many people who suffer from simulation sickness when immersing in virtual reality. In this study, we analyzed two photoplethysmogram(PPG) parameters - a second derivative parameter and power spectral density ratios - in order to relate PPG parameters with simulation sickness. 36 young, healthy subjects were participated in the experiment, and each subject was equipped with a PPG electrode during his or her immersion. Simulation sickness section was defined as a 7 - second section which starts from the point where a subject reported simulation sickness, and normal section as a same-length section where no physical stimuli was presented to him or her. We compared the PPG parameters of the simulation sickness sections with the normal sections, - d/a ratio is believed to have lower value during vasodilation and higher value during vasoconstriction, however, we could not find much difference in the parameter between normal and simulation sickness sections. We also compared 1 to 10Hz power spectral density ratios in normal sections with in simulation sickness section, and found that 6 density ratios among them have different value. Therefore, the density ratios might be utilized as parameters to detect simulation sickness of subjects.
