Parallel operation scheme to several transformers is adopted because of the load increase, economic problem, or load shedding. For the transformer's parallel operation, loads proportional to each transformer's capacity must be allotted, and circulation currents must be limited as much as without causing any problem in a real operation. But, both transformers in parallel operation can be tripped when either faults at lower voltage side of a transformer or faults in a bus occurs. Therefore, parallel operation scheme to distribution transformers in Korea is not adopted in a normal state but only when loaded or load-shedded. These are due to the insufficiency of the construction in communication network and AVR scheme. Besides that, those are because bus bar protection scheme to lower voltage side of a transformer is not applied. In spite of enormous initial investment costs, advanced countries take so much account of power system reliability and stable supply that they adopt the parallel operation scheme in a normal state. One of the problems in parallel operation is the overheat of transformers due to the excessive circulation currents. This paper presents the scheme that controls voltages between both transformers using circulation currents that occurs in parallel operation.
A numerical analysis method for predicting aerodynamic noise at inter-coach space of high-speed trains, validated by wind-tunnel experiments for limited speed range, is proposed. The wind-tunnel testing measurements of the train aerodynamic sound pressure level for the new generation Korean high-speed train have suggested that the inter-coach space aerodynamic noise varies approximately to the 7.7th power of the train speed. The observed high sensitivity serves as a motivation for the present investigation on elucidating the characteristics of noise emission at inter-coach space. As train speed increases, the effect of turbulent flows and vortex shedding is amplified, with concomitant increase in the aerodynamic noise. The turbulent flow field analysis demonstrates that vortex formation indeed causes generation of aerodynamic sound. For validation, numerical simulation and wind tunnel measurements are performed under identical conditions. The results show close correlation between the numerically derived and measured values, and with some adjustment, the results are found to be in good agreement. Thus validated, the numerical analysis procedure is applied to predict the aerodynamic noise level at inter-coach space. As the train gains speed, numerical simulation predicts increase in the overall aerodynamic sound emission level accompanied by an upward shift in the main frequency components of the sound. A contour mapping of the aerodynamic sound for the region enclosing the inter-coach space is presented.
In its 90 years of life, the Tuned Mass Damper have found application in many fields of engineering as a vibration reducing device. The evolution of the theory of TMDs is briefly outlined in the paper. A generalised mathematical linear model for the analysis of the response of line-like structures with TMDs is presented. The system matrices of the system including the TMDs are written in the state space as a function of the mean wind speed. The stability of the system can be analysed and the Power Spectral Density Function of any response parameter calculated, taking into account an arbitrary number of modes of vibration as well as an arbitrary number of TMDs, for any given PSDF of the excitation. The procedure can be used to optimise the number, position and mechanical properties of the damping devices, with respect to any response parameter. Due to the stationarity of the excitation, the method is well suited to structures subjected to the wind action. In particular the procedure allows the calculation of the onset galloping wind speed and the response to buffeting, and a linearisation of the aeroelastic behaviour allows its use also for the evaluation of the response to vortex shedding. Finally three examples illustrate the suggested procedure.

An experimental study is conducted to investigate the turbulent wake flow around tubes in vertical single row tube banks. All measurements are performed at Reynolds number(Re$_{max}$) 4.2*10$_{3}$ - 2.5*10$_{4}$ with varying tube spacings from the wide pitch ratio(H/D=3.07) to the very narrow one(H/D=1.23). Flow patterns are visualized using the smoke-wire method. Mean static pressures, velocity components, and various statistical quantities of turbulence are obtained by the computer on-line technique. In the case of wide tube spacings, the near wakes of tube show similar trends to those of a single tube, and their flow indicats an anisotropic turbulence. However, as the pitch ratio decreases, wide and narrow wakes appear alternately behind adjacent tubes due to the deflected flow. Also, in the case of H/D .leq. 1.54, Karman vortex is not formed at the side of relatively wide wake.e.

The combustion instability in a model dump combustor with an exhaust nozzle and the possibility of combustion control using a loudspeaker to these instabilities were studied. By changing inlet velocity, combustor length and equivalence ratio, dynamic pressure signals and flame structures were simultaneously taken. Because inlet velocity and combustor length affect the life time of vortex in the dump combustor, the results showed that as the combustor length increased and the inlet velocity decreased, the instability frequency decreased and the maximum power spectral density of the dynamic pressure generally decreased. Also, instability frequency and maximum power spectral density of the dynamic pressure increased with the increment of equivalence ratio. From the data of close-loop control, the optimum time-delay control using a loudspeaker was confirmed to be able to reduce the vortex shedding induced from the mixed acoustic-convective mode combustion instability.
The resonance of boiler is caused by exciting force in the gas path and it generates the vibration by the harmony of boiler's dimensional factor. According to trending toward the boiler of increasing capacity and a bigger size, it has a problem of the vibration at back-pass heating surfaces. We can predict such vibrations as comparison between vortex frequency and gas column's natural frequency. We can't rely on the method for the past decades because of changing parameters, such as an allowable error, gas temperature, gas velocity, Strouhal number. We can reduce the vibration to use the seasoning effect and change the operating condition in coal fired boiler but it's not essential solution. When the vibration occurred in the model boiler, we must measures the acoustic pressure and frequency of places for considering the means. So far, we confirmed the problem from field measures and theoretical analysis about the acoustic vibration of boiler. We installed anti-acoustic baffle in a existing boiler to change the acoustic natural frequency at the cavity, which results in reducing the acoustic vibration. The first, we prove that the acoustic resonance is caused by harmonizing vortex shedding frequency of tube heat surface with acoustic natural frequency of cavity in the range of 650~750 MW loads. The second, the acoustic resonance at the back-pass heating surface has the third order of acoustic natural frequency at the second economizer. We install five anti-acoustic baffles at the second economizer to reducing the resonance. We confirm considerably reducing the acoustic vibration of boiler during the commercial boiler.

This paper presents results of an experimental investigation of vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a flexibly mounted and rigid cylinder with two-degrees-of-freedom with respect to varying ratio of in-line natural frequency to cross-flow natural frequency, $f^*$, at a fixed low mass ratio. Combined in-line and cross-flow motion was observed in a sub-critical Reynolds number range. Three-dimensional displacement meter and tension meter were used to measure dynamic responses of the model. To validate the results and the experiment system, x and y response amplitudes and ratio of oscillation frequency to cross-flow natural frequency were compared with other experimental results. It has been found that the higher harmonics, such as third and more vibration components, can occur on a certain part of steel catenary riser under a condition of dual resonance mode. In the present work, however, due to the limitation of a size of circulating water channel, the whole test of a whole configuration of the riser at an adequate scale for VIV phenomenon was not able to be conducted. Instead, we have modeled a rigid cylinder and assumed that the cylinder is a part of steel catenary riser where the higher harmonic motions could occur. Through the experiment, we have found that even though the cylinder was assumed to be rigid, the occurrence of the higher harmonic motions was observed in a small reduced velocity ($V_r$) range, where the influence of the in-line response is relatively large. The transition of the vortex shedding mode from one to another was examined by using time history of x and y directional displacement over all experimental cases. We also observed the influence of in-line restoring force power spectral density with $f^*$.
Heat exchanger tube array in a heat recovery steam generator is exposed to the hot exhaust gas flow and it could cause the flow induced vibration, which could damage the heat exchanger tube array. It is needed for the structural safe operation of the heat exchanger to establish the characteristics of flow induced vibration in the tube array. The researches for the flow induced vibration of typical heat exchangers have been conducted by using single cicular tube or circular tube array and the nondimensional PSD(Power Spectral Density) function with the Strouhal number, fD/U, had been derived by experimental method. From the present study, the basis for the application of flow induced vibration to the heat recovery steam generator tube array would be prepared. For the previous mentioned purpose, the present CFD analysis introduced a single fin tube and calculated with the unsteady laminar flow over the single fin tube. The characteristics of vortex shedding and lift and drag fluctuation over the fin tube was investigated. The derived nondimensional lift PSD was compared with the results of the previous experimental studies and the characteristics of lift and drag PSD over a single fin tube was established from the present CFD study.
