  • Combined cycle power plant is a system where a gas turbine or steam turbine is used to produce shaft power to drive a generator for producing electrical power and the steam from the HRSG is expanded in a steam turbine for additional shaft power. Combined cycle plant is a one from of cogeneration. The temperature of the exhaust gases from a gas turbine ranges from $400^\circC$ to $600^\circC$, and can be used effectively in a heat recovery steam generator to produce steam. Combined cycle can be classed as a "topping(gas turbine)" and a "bottoming(steam turbine)" cycle. The first cycle, to which most of the heat is supplied, is called the topping cycle. The wasted heat it produces is then utilized in a second process which operates at a lower temperature level and is therefore referred to as a "bottoming cycle". The combination of gas/steam turbine power plant managed to be accepted widely because, first, each individual system has already proven themselves in power plants with a single cycle, therefore, the development costs are low. Secondly, the air as a working medium is relatively non-problematic and inexpensive and can be used in gas turbines at an elevated temperature level over $1000^\circC$. The steam process uses water, which is likewise inexpensive and widely available, but better suited for the medium and low temperature ranges. It, therefore, is quite reasonable to use the steam process for the bottoming cycle. Only recently gas turbines attained inlet temperature that make it possible to design a highly efficient combined cycle. In the present study, performance analysis of a dual pressure combined-cycle power plant is carried out to investigate the influence of topping cycle to combined cycle performance.

  • KHNP CRI has been developing APR+ nuclear power plant since 2007, which is GEN III+ model with 4,361 MWth capacity. To develop safer and more economical nuclear power plant than APR1400, we studied domestic and foreign nuclear power plants under construction. We also reviewed nuclear power plants which are appropriate for domestic construction in Korea and also for export. Economic assessments were made twice during the second phase of standard detailed design of the plant. The result of the second phase of economic analysis for APR+ standard detailed design showed that APR+ N-th plant was 24.6% more economical than coal-fired 1,000MW power plant, and was evaluated to be competitive enough in global market for construction of the nuclear power plant.

  • Cytogenetic and hematological analysis was performed in peripheral blood from the Korean native goat bred in the nuclear power plant (Wolsong and Uljin) and control area. The frequency of micronuclei (MN) in peripheral blood lymphocytes from goat was used as a biomarker of radiobiological effects resulting from exposure to environmental radiation. An estimated dose of radiation was calculated by best fitting linear-quadratic model based on the radiation-induced MN data over the range from 0 to 4 Gy from the goat lymphocytes with in vitro irradiation. MN rates in goats from the Wolsong and Uljin nuclear power plant, and control area were 9.60/1000, 6.83/1000 and 9.88/1000, respectively. There were no significant differences in MN frequencies and hematological values in goats between nuclear power plant and control area. High level of platelet in the goat from Uljin nuclear power plant was observed, which seemed to be related to the goat management.

  • The large process plant is currently implementing predictive maintenance technology to transition from the traditional Time-Based Maintenance (TBM) approach to the Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) approach in order to improve equipment maintenance and productivity. The traditional techniques for predictive maintenance involved managing upper/lower thresholds (Set-Point) of equipment signals or identifying anomalies through control charts. Recently, with the development of techniques for big analysis, machine learning-based AAKR (Auto-Associative Kernel Regression) and deep learning-based VAE (Variation Auto-Encoder) techniques are being actively applied for predictive maintenance. However, this predictive maintenance techniques is only effective during steady-state operation of plant equipment, and it is difficult to apply them during start-up and shutdown periods when rises or falls. In addition, unlike processes such as nuclear and thermal power plants, which operate for hundreds of days after a single start-up, because the pumped power plant involves repeated start-ups and shutdowns 4-5 times a day, it is needed the prediction and alarm algorithm suitable for its characteristics. In this study, we aim to propose an approach to apply the optimal predictive alarm algorithm that is suitable for the characteristics of Pumped Storage Power Plant(PSPP) facilities to the system by analyzing the predictive maintenance techniques used in existing nuclear and coal power plants.

  • The purpose of this study is to select appropriate location factors for wind power plant, provide detailed classification criteria, and find out appropriate sites for installing wind power plant in Gangwondo. In this study, the following 11 factors were extracted for site selection of wind power plant : wind resource, topography (valley angle, distance to the ridge), forest density, land use, preservation area, national park, Baekdu-Daegan, noise, shade, Transmission Line, and approaching roads. Each factor had relatively different level of importance so that AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique was used to calculated the weighted value per factor. For overlay analysis, classification criteria were prepared for each factor and each factor was classified into 3 grades : very appropriate, intermediate, poor. According to overlay analysis, the areas which received the highest grade (grade 5) was only in 0.16% of the total area of Gangwondo and had a tendency to exist along the mountain ridge over 600-meter elevation. Through analyzing the yearly average of wind power density, it was proved that the wind power density of areas with grade 4 or 5 had abundant wind resource over $400W/m^2$.

  • The various plants including power plants have been increased near downtown in accordance with the policy objective of rising the power feed rate and development projects. As a result of these various plants near residential area, noise damage complaints has been raised very often. The power plant is included with the range of environmental impact assessment project. Nevertheless, environmental noise issues regarding construction of these power plants have arisen. Accordingly it is time to consider the environmental and social issues of plants noise in accordance with the government's policy objectives of increased power production. In this study, we reviewed the current noise impact assessment and we also sought solutions to these issues. In order to minimize the problem of noise impact on neighborhood and residents, we intended to propose alternative method of 3D simulation in dealing with these issues.

  • A virtual power plant is a kind of software power plant that enables participation in power operation by integrally managing individual distributed resources. This paper proposes a common information communication architecture based on the TASE.2 standard and the OpenADR2.0 standard to operate a virtual power plant as a single power system. ESS is designed TASE.2 SBO devices that related objects are mapped to OpenADR2.0 services and composed as a single sequence type. Through simulation verification, it conforms data exchange and operation based on both standards.

  • Tidal power plants such as Shihwa, Garorim and so on are under construction or planned to construct in Korea. However it can be estimated that the inappropriate community assistant program for tidal power plant is applied because tidal energy is imposed on a new and renewable energy criterion in Korea. Therefore in this paper, the optimum funding and region boundaries of community assistant program for tidal power plants are derived in order to improve beneficial effects of the community assistant program for tidal power plants in Korea.

  • The power servo cylinder for driving accurately turbine stop valve of an atomic power plant is necessary to do turn-over owing to a leakage of oil and a structure problem, especially, it of a power plant be in demand a high quality standard depends entirely on import. There are much problem that the AlBC be to used as a material of piston head in cylinder are caused by wear. Therefore, it is necessary to examine friction characteristics of it. In this study, wear test experiments was carried out with AlBC and SCM440, using reciprocating friction tester of pin on disk. This result was shown that the wear mechanism of AlBC on working condition is adhesive wear and the maximum temperature of infra redray thermal image of frictional surface show over 2 mm from contact surface of pin and disk.
