The aerodynamic performance of double inlet sirocco fan is strongly dependent upon the design factors of impeller and scroll. In this paper, the change of scroll size was adopted to investigate the aerodynamic performances of double inlet sirocco fan and indoor PAC. Especially, a scroll expansion angle and a cut-off clearance ratio were considered to change the scroll size. In addition, the installation depth between double inlet sirocco fan and indoor PAC was considered. As a result, the total pressure efficiency of double inlet sirocco fan shows about 62%~73% according to the change of scroll expansion angles. Moreover, the flowrate performance of indoor PAC is the best at the condition of a scroll expansion angle of 8°, an installation depth of 15 mm and a cut-off clearance ratio of 8%.
The mode-switching control of transient process is important to grid-connected 400 Hz solid-state power supply systems. Therefore, this paper analyzes the principle of on-grid and islanding operation of the system with or without local loads in the grid-connected process and provides a theoretical study of the effect of different switching sequences on the mode-switching transient process. The conclusion is that the mode switch (MS) must be turned on before the solid-state switch (STS) in the on-grid process and that STS must be turned off before the MS in the off-grid process. A strategy of mode-switching smooth control for transient process of the system is proposed, including its concrete steps. The strategy utilizes the average distribution of peak currents and the smooth adjustment of peak currents and phases to achieve a no-shock grid connection. The simulation and experimental results show that the theoretical analysis is correct and that the method is effective.

Wind power is one of most promising renewable energy. The output capacity of large wind turbine has been increased for off-shore application. Number of installation of small wind turbine also has been increased for the stand-alone and off-grid application of remote area and recently small wind turbine equipped with lamp on the pole is used for street lamp. Maximum wind energy must be extracted by wind turbine within rated wind speed. Power must be controlled to protect the system such as blade, generator, and power system above the rated wind speed. In this paper, small wind power system of 800W rating for battery charging is implemented and output power control by furling system is verified at wind tunnel test.

This paper investigates the modal acoustic power by a cascade of flat-plate airfoils interacting with homogeneous, isotropic turbulence. Basic formulation for the acoustic power upstream and downstream is based on the analytical theory of Smith and its generalization due to Cheong et al. The acoustic power spectrum has been expressed as the sum of cut-on acoustic modes, whose modal power is the product of three terms: a turbulence series, an upstream or downstream power factor and an upstream or downstream acoustic response function. The effect of these terms in the modal acoustic power has been examined. For isotropic turbulence gust, the turbulent series are only reducing factor of the modal acoustic power. The power factor tends to reduce the modal acoustic power in the upstream direction, although the power factor is liable to increase the modal acoustic power in the downstream direction. The modes close to cut-off are decreasing strongly, especially in the downstream direction. Therefore the modes close to cut-off don't contribute highly to the radiated acoustic power in the downstream direction, although the modal acoustic pressure is high for these modes.

In the server cluster environment, one of the ways saving energy is to control server's power according to traffic conditions. This is to determine the ON/OFF state of servers according to energy usage of data center and each server. To do this, we need a way to estimate each server's energy. In this paper, we use a software-based power consumption estimation model because it is more efficient than the hardware model using power meter in terms of energy and cost. The traditional software-based power consumption estimation model has a drawback in that it doesn't know well the computing status of servers because it uses only the idle status field of CPU. Therefore it doesn't estimate consumption power effectively. In this paper, we present a CPU field based power consumption estimation model to estimate more accurate than the two traditional models (CPU/Disk/Memory utilization based power consumption estimation model and CPU idle utilization based power consumption estimation model) by using the various status fields of CPU to get the CPU status of servers and the overall status of system. We performed experiments using 2 PCs and compared the power consumption estimated by the power consumption model (software) with that measured by the power meter (hardware). The experimental results show that the traditional model has about 8-15% average error rate but our proposed model has about 2% average error rate.

This paper presents a new method to compensate the non-linearity for matrix converter drives using PQR instantaneous Power theory. The non-linearity of matrix converter drives such as commutation delay, turn-on and turn-off time of switching device, and on-state switching device voltage drop is modelled by PQR power theory and compensated using a reference current control scheme. The proposed method does not need any additional hardware and off-line experimental measurements. The proposed compensation method is applied for high performance induction motor drives using a 3 kW matrix converter system without a speed sensor. Simulation and experimental results show the proposed method using PQR power theory Provides good compensating characteristic.
10kV IGCT has been recently developed and has the potential to push wind turbine systems to higher power and voltage rating. Converters employing IGCTs need snubber and OVP circuit to limit the rate of rise of current and peak over voltage across IGCT during turn on and off state respectively. The conventional RCD snubber which is used in such power converter dissipates a significant amount of power. In order to reduce the amount of energy lost by conventional RCD snubber, this paper proposes an isolated inductor snubber circuit that not only meets all of the IGCTs characteristics during on and off-state but also significantly saves the power loss. Loss analysis of conventional di/dt snubber and OVP circuit is performed for the 3-level NPC type back-to-back VSC supplied from grid voltage of 6.9kV. In comparison with the conventional snubber, isolated inductor snubber has a fewer number of components and improved efficiency leading to a reliable and efficient wind turbine systems.

This study analyzes the turn-on and turn-off transients of a metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) with high-switching frequency systems. In these systems, the voltage distortion becomes serious at the output terminal of a Vienna rectifier by the turn-off delay of the MOSFET. The current has low-order harmonics through this voltage distortion. This paper describes the transient of the turn-off that causes the voltage distortion. The algorithm for reducing the sixth harmonic using a proportional-resonance controller is proposed to improve the current distortion without complex calculation for compensation. The reduction of the current distortion by high-switching frequency is verified by experiment with the 2.5-kW prototype Vienna rectifier.

We investigate the effects of high input power on the performance of optical bistable symmetric self-electooptic effect devices (S-SEEDs) using extremely shallow quantum wells (ESQWs). In this study, we consider the four ESQWs SEEDs; anti-reflection (AR)-coated ESQWs S-SEED, back-to-back AR coated ESQWs S-SEED, asymmetric F뮤교-Perot (AFP) ESQWs S-SEED, and back-to-back AFP-ESQWs S-SEED. As the input power increases, device performances such as on/off contrast ratio, on/off reflectivity difference are seriously degraded because of ohmic heating and exciton saturation. On the other hand, switching speed of the device increases up to certain value and then begins to decrease. With reasonable optimization of the input power for the best switching speed operation of the devices in a cascading optical interconnection system, we simulate and analyze the system bit-rate of the various ESQWs S-SEEDs, for a mesa of $5{\times}5{\mu}m^2$ size, changing the namber of quantum wells for the external bias of 0 V and -5V.
