The tendency of lightning surge to propagate displays the difference for applicable power and equipment. However, looking into the subject equipment with the lightning surge, the lightning surge can be divided in between the two lines of power, between the power line and the ground, the power line and the PE conductor, between the neutral line and the ground and the like. In addition, in the event of the communication equipment, there exists the case of lightning surge entered from the power line in addition to the entry between the communication lines, the communication line and the ground. In this study, the tendency of propagation of lightning surge penetrated on to the subject equipment is analyzed through the empirical experiment in accordance with the ground method by using the independent ground, common ground, bypass arrester and others among the techniques for safety improvement in power lines.
When the equipment which is related to safety or important to power production is installed in nuclear power plant units (NPPs), verification of equipment Electromagnetic Susceptibility (EMS) must be performed. The low-frequency radiated magnetic field susceptibility (RS101) test is one of the EMS tests specified in U.S NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.180 revision 1. The RS101 test verifies the ability of equipment installed in close proximity to sources of large radiated magnetic fields to withstand them. However, RG 1.180 revision 1 allows for an exemption of the low-frequency radiated magnetic susceptibility (RS101) test if the safety-related equipment will not be installed in areas with strong sources of magnetic fields. There is no specific exemption criterion in RG 1.180 revision 1. EPRI TR-102323 revision 4 specifically provides a guide that the low-frequency radiated magnetic field susceptibility (RS101) test can be conservatively exempted for equipment installed at least 1 m away from the sources of large magnetic fields (>300 A/m). But there is no exemption criterion for equipment installed within 1 m of the sources of smaller magnetic fields (<300 A/m). Since some types of equipment radiating magnetic flux are often installed near safety related equipment in an electrical equipment room (EER) and main control room (MCR), the RS101 test exemption criterion needs to be reasonably defined for the cases of installation within 1 m. There is also insufficient data regarding the strength of magnetic fields that can be used in NPPs. In order to ensure confidence in the RS101 test exemption criterion, we measured the strength of low-frequency radiated magnetic fields by distance. This study is expected to provide an insight into the RS101 test exemption criterion that meets the RG 1.180 revision 1. It also provides a margin analysis that can be used to mitigate the influence of low-frequency radiated magnetic field sources in NPPs.

Investigations of the commercial aircraft impact effect on nuclear island infrastructures have been drawing extensive attention, and this paper aims to perform the safety assessment of Generation III nuclear power plant (NPP) buildings subjected to typical commercial aircrafts crash. At present Part II, based on the verified finite element (FE) models of aircrafts Airbus A320 and A380, as well as the NPP containment and auxiliary buildings in Part I of this paper, the whole collision process is reproduced numerically by adopting the coupled missile-target interaction approach with the finite element code LS-DYNA. The impact induced damage of NPP plant under four impact locations of containment (cylinder, air intake, conical roof and PCS water tank) and two impact locations of auxiliary buildings (exterior wall and roof of spent fuel pool room) are evaluated. Furthermore, by considering the inner structures in the containment and raft foundation of NPP, the structural vibration analyses are conducted under two impact locations (middle height of cylinder, main control room in the auxiliary buildings). It indicates that, within the discussed scenarios, NPP structures can withstand the impact of both two aircrafts, while the functionality of internal equipment on higher floors will be affected to some extent under impact induced vibrations, and A380 aircraft will cause more serious structural damage and vibrations than A320 aircraft. The present work can provide helpful references to assess the safety of the structures and inner equipment of NPP plant under commercial aircraft impact.

With progress in industrialization, facilities for generating, delivering, and receiving high levels of electric power are in great demand. The scale of electric power equipment is increasing in both size and complexity. This has contributed to the development of our modern, high-tech and information-based society. However, if the generation of electric power is suspended due to unexpected accidents at power facilities or power stations, a range of equipment the operations of which are dependent on electric power can be damaged, causing substantial socioeconomic losses in an industrial society. A great deal of time and money would be expended to repair damaged facilities at a power station, causing enormous economic loss.In order to detect the deterioration processes of power cables, and to prevent the destruction of power cables, the operation status of power cables should be monitored on a regular basis. We have installed equipment at Korea Western Power Co., Ltd., located in Taean, in order to predict and prevent the destruction of power cables. This is an entirely new installation: a set of equipment invented specifically to measure the insulation resistance of power cables. Installation of the equipment does not cause the flow of earth fault current. This ensures accurate measurement of insulation resistance values by the equipment. We have been studying this equipment in order to develop preventive technology that would show the deterioration processes of power cables.
We propose portable equipment that monitors a current and potential on high-potential power transmission lines. In the equipment, a current and voltage sensor are attached to a hollow insulator that supports a power transmission line: A current on a power line is detected by an air-core solenoidal coil clamped to the line and the detected current signal is transmitted to the ground station by using optical data link, A potential on a power transmission line is detected by a high resistance element, zinc oxide (ZnO) that acts as a potential divider between the power line and the ground. The equipment does not require high potential insulators and magnetic cores which. This leads to the following advantages of the equipment: (a) It is easily installed owing to its small size and its simple structure; (b) It operates in low ...

The amount of electrical energy has been increased with the rapid development of the industrial society. Accordingly, operating voltage of the power equipment and facility capacity are continuously increasing. Development trends of recent high-voltage electrical equipment are ultra high-voltage, large-capacity and compact. Early diagnosis of a failure of the power plant has been emerging as an important task as to supply high quality power to users. In this study, we have tried to develope an algorithm for distinguishing an arc fault signal generated in the power plant by using UV sensor.

We propose portable equipment that monitors current and voltage of high-potential power transmission lines. In the equipment, a current and voltage sensor are attached to an insulator that supports a power transmission line: A clamped to the power line and the detected current signal is transmitted to the ground station by a wireless optical link using transmission line is detected by a high resistance element, zinc oxide (ZnO). That acts as a potential divider between the power line and ground. We make an experimental device for 66kV power line and demonstrate that it can monitor currents proposed equipment is small-sized, light, and inexpensive in comparison with the conventional CT (current transformer) and PT (potential transformer) since it does not require high potential insulators and magnetic cores, further, the equipment is easily installed owing to its small size and its simple structure.
In this paper, a digital control strategy based on equivalent fundamental and odd harmonic resonators is proposed for single-phase DVRs. By using a delay block, which can be equivalent to a bank of resonators, it rejects the fundamental and odd harmonic disturbances effectively. The structure of the single closed-loop control system consists of a delay block, a proportional gain and a set of zero phase notch filters. The principle of the controller design is discussed in detail to ensure the stability of the system. Both the supply voltage and the load current feedforwards are used to improve the response speed and the ability to eliminate disturbances. The proposed controller is simple in terms of its structure and implementation. It has good performances in harmonic compensation and dynamic response. Experimental results from a 2kW DVR prototype confirm the validity of the design procedure and the effectiveness of the control strategy.
The Korean government pushed ahead various policies to disseminate photovoltaic (PV), wind power, small hydro, bio-fuel, etc. Renewable energy system (RES) budget of the Korean government increased from 118 billion won of 2003 to 876.6 billion won of 2010. The R&D budgetary supports for RES increased by 6.8 times in the period 2003-2010. It is necessary to confirm RES budget expenditure that renewable energy promotion policy makes good performance evaluated in quantity level. This paper made Input-Output Table 2009 contains photovoltaic power generation equipment industry as a dependent sector and analyzed induced production effect by demand of photovoltaic power generation equipment industry. From the empirical analysis result, additional demand in photovoltaic power generation equipment induced 1.932 times of induced production in Korea. Each of industry sector has positive induced production from the additional demand in photovoltaic power generation equipment. Renewable energy promotion in photovoltaic power generation is considered together with industry policy as the option to sustain economic growth.
