This paper analyses the mathematical model and control strategies of a Hybrid Active Power Filter with Injection Circuit (IHAPF). The control strategy based on the load harmonic current detection is selected. A novel control method for a IHAPF, which is based on the analyzed control mathematical model, is proposed. It consists of two closed-control loops. The upper closed-control loop consists of a single fuzzy logic controller and the IHAPF model, while the lower closed-control loop is composed of an Adaptive Network based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) controller, a Neural Generalized Predictive (NGP) regulator and the IHAPF model. The purpose of the lower closed-control loop is to improve the performance of the upper closed-control loop. When compared to other control methods, the simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control method has the advantages of a shorter response time, good online control and very effective harmonics reduction.
The electric power load during the peak time in summer is strongly affected by cooling load, which decreases the preparation ratio of electricity and brings about the failure in the supply of electricity in the electric power system. The ice-storage system and heat pump system are possible solutions to settle this problem. In this study. the method of estimating temperature and humidity to forecast the cooling load of ice-storage system is suggested, then the method of forecasting the cooling load using fuzzy logic is suggested by simulating that the cooling load is calculated using actual temperature and humidity. The forecast of the temperature, humidity and cooling load are simulated, and it is shown that the forecasted data approach to the actual data. Operating the ice-storage system by the forecast of cooling load with night electric power will improve the ice-storage system efficiency and reduce the peak electric power load during the summer season as a result.
Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of a reciprocating flexible manipulator is investigated in this paper. The flexible manipulator is driven by a multifunctional active strut with fuzzy logic controllers. The multifunctional active strut is a combination of a motor assembly and a piezoelectric stack actuator to simultaneously provide precision positioning and wide frequency bandwidth vibration suppression capabilities. First, the multifunctional active strut and the flexible manipulator are introduced, and their dynamic models are derived. A control strategy is then proposed, which includes a position controller and a vibration controller to achieve simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of the flexible manipulator. Next, fuzzy logic control approach is presented to design a fuzzy logic position controller and a fuzzy logic vibration controller. Finally, experiments are conducted for the fuzzy logic controllers and the experimental results are compared with those from a PID control scheme consisting of a PID position controller and a PID vibration control. The comparison indicates that the fuzzy logic controller can easily handle the non-linearity in the strut and provide higher position accuracy and better vibration reduction with less control power consumption.
Commencing with incandescent light bulbs, every load today creates harmonics. Unfortunately, these loads vary with respect to their amount of harmonic content and their response to problems caused by harmonics. The prevalent difficulties with harmonics are voltage and current waveform distortions. In addition, Electronic equipment like computers, battery chargers, electronic ballasts, variable frequency drives, and switching mode power supplies generate perilous amounts of harmonics. Issues related to harmonics are of a greater concern to engineers and building designers because they do more than just distort voltage waveforms, they can overheat the building wiring, cause nuisance tripping, overheat transformer units, and cause random end-user equipment failures. Thus power quality is becoming more and more serious with each passing day. As a result, active power filters (APFs) have gained a lot of attention due to their excellent harmonic compensation. However, the performance of the active filters seems to have contradictions with different control techniques. The main objective of this paper is to analyze shunt active filters with fuzzy and pi controllers. To carry out this analysis, active and reactive current methods ($i_d-i_q$) are considered. Extensive simulations were carried out. The simulations were performed under balance, unbalanced and non sinusoidal conditions. The results validate the dynamic behavior of fuzzy logic controllers over PI controllers.
This paper presents a variable speed wind generation system where fuzzy logic controllers is used as efficiency optimizer. The fuzzy logic controller increments the machine flux by on-line search to improve the generator efficiency in case of light load. The speed of the induction generator is controlled according to the variation of the wind speed in order to produce the maximum output power The generator reference speed is adjusted according to the optimum tip-speed ratio. The complete control system has been developed by simulation study.
This research presents a fuel cell simulator for control logic verification and operator training. Nowadays, power industries are focusing on clean energy as a response to new policy. The fuel cell can be the solution for clean energy, but operating technology is not well developed compared to other conventional power plans because of its short history. Therefore we need a simulator to verify the new control strategy and train operators, because the price of a real fuel cell system is too high and mechanically weak to be used for these kind of purposes. To develop the simulator, a 300 KW MCFC(Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell) system was modeled with stack, BOPs(pre-reformer, steam generator, etc) and mechanical components(valves, pipes, pumps, blowers, etc). The process model was integrated to emulated control system and HMI(Human Machine Interface). A static load and open loop tests were conducted for verifying the accuracy of the process model, since it is the most important part in the simulation. After verifying the process model, an automatic load change and start-up tests were conducted to verify the performance of a new control strategy(logic and functional loops).
In diesel engine technology the drive to reduce emissions and fuel consumption with improved performance targets has led to many advances. In particular, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) have played a key role in achieving these aims by permitting flexible control of the engine inlet gas charge. The full potential of these devices are difficult to achieve due to limitations in the classical control methods. However, fuzzy logic is particularly appealing due to its simple heuristic nature. The controller used in this work was designed using the Matlab Fuzzy Logic Toolbox. The overall object is to access the potential for emissions and fuel consumption reductions during transient events whilst maintaining and even improving driveability. Classical control methods (PID), as used on production engines, are examined and contrasted with an coordinated control that utilizes fuzzy logic.

Direct torque control based on space vector modulation (SVM-DTC) protects the DTC transient merits. Furthermore, it creates better quality steady-state performance in a wide speed range. The modified method of DTC using SVM improves the electrical magnitudes of asynchronous machines, such as minimizing the stator current distortions, the stator flux with electromagnetic torque without ripple, the fast response of the rotor speed, and the constant switching frequency. In this paper, the proposed method is based on two new control strategies for direct torque control with space vector modulation. First, fuzzy logic control is used instead of the PI torque and a PI flux controller to minimizing the torque error and to achieve a constant switching frequency. The voltages in the direct and quadratic reference frame ($V_d$, $V_q$) are achieved by fuzzy logic control. In this scheme, the switching capability of the inverter is fully utilized, which improves the system performance. Second, the close loop of stator flux estimation based on the voltage model and a low pass filter is used to counteract the drawbacks in the open loop of the stator flux such as the problems saturation and dc drift. The response of this new control strategy is compared with DTC-SVM. The experimental and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control topology outperforms the conventional DTC-SVM in terms of system robustness and eliminating the bad outcome of dc-offset.
A variable speed refrigeration system(VSRS) has been received high attention for energy saving ability. This paper investigates effects of design factors such as membership function range and sampling time to control performances for systematical designing fuzzy logic controller of the VSRS. Some comparisons of control performance between the fuzzy and PI are conducted including comparative evaluation of robustness against noise by using computer simulations. The simulation results showed that the fuzzy is very useful design method for engineers in the industrial fields which have big noises system and deal with inherent nonlinear system like the VSRS.
This paper proposes a method of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) using fuzzy logic control for grid-connected photovoltaic systems (PV). First, for the purpose of comparison, because of its proven and good performances, the incremental conductance (IncCond) technique is briefly introduced. A double fuzzy logic controller (DFLC) based MPPT is then proposed which has shown better performances compared to the IncCond MPPT based approach. Modeling and Simulation in grid-connected PV system results are provided for both controllers under same atmospheric condition based PSCAD/EMTDC. The double fuzzy logic MPPT controller is then simulated and evaluated, which has shown better performances.
