  • In an effort to develop more reliable and cost-effective satellite power system, a multiple-battery subsystem operating in parallel become a viable solution. The idea can further be extended to the parallel-able standardized battery module concept that offers many attractive features in configuring a spacecraft power system. In this paper, Multiple Battery Modules employing the charge control scheme are proposed. In addition to the conventional voltage mode controller, the charge control scheme internally regulates and controls the battery current, resulting in the identical current distribution and balanced battery charge.

  • 24V DC power system of commercial vehicle includes 28V alternator and 24V battery bank (two 12V battery bank in series). BEQ(Battery Equalizer) provides efficient and reliable 12V DC power to 12V electrical load in 24V DC power system. In addition to providing 12V DC power, BEQ ensures that battery voltages remain equal which extends battery life. It is the most cost effective and efficient solution for dual voltage systems. BEQ made by Hyundai MOBIS is specifically designed to provide reliable 12V DC power for 12V ABS(Anti-lock Brake system).

  • This paper proposes the hybrid fuel cell system that can solve disadvantages of existing fuel cell system and ensure high reliability and high stability. The system consists of PEM fuel cell, Ni-MH battery and power management system. In this system, when the power provided from the fuel cell is higher than the load power, the extra energy may be used to charge the Ni-MH battery. When the fuel cell can not provide enough energy to the load, the shortage of energy will be supplied by the Ni-MH battery. Experimental results show that the output voltage is regulated well during load variations. Also, high system efficiency is achieved.

  • In this paper, three-phase power equalizing system (PES) with UPS function is proposed. This system is based on NiMH battery with battery management system. The power conversion circuit is composed with the three-phase converter/inverter, the bi-directional converter, and the thyristor switches. The three-phase converter/inverter provides the power to the grid or get the power from the grid. Also, it operates as a UPS. The bi-directional converter charges or discharges the battery. The thyristor switches are used for connecting/disconnecting with the grid and the load. A 15 kW prototype is implemented for the verifying the performance of the proposed system.

  • Batteries are widely used for energy storage, such as ESS(Energy Storage System), electric vehicles, electric aircraft, and electric powered ships. Among them, a submarine uses a high power battery for an energy storage. When the battery of a submarine is discharged, a diesel generator generates AC power, and then AC/DC power converter change AC power to DC power for charging the battery. Therefore, in order to lower the current capacity of the diesel generator, it is necessary to use an AC/DC converter with a high input power factor. And, a power converter with a large power capacity must have high stability because it can lead to a major accident when a failure occurs. However, the control algorithm using the traditional PI controller is difficult to satisfy stability and dynamic characteristics. In this paper, we design the high power AC/DC converter with high input power factor for battery charging systems. And, we propose a stable control algorithm. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experiments.

  • This study proposes a converter that makes battery charging, discharging, and zero voltage control possible. The proposed topology consists of an LLC converter and a half-bridge inverter, and all power semiconductor devices are applied Si-MOSFETs. The topology is designed with an LLC switching frequency of 100 kHz, a half-bridge inverter switching frequency of 50 kHz, and a battery voltage of 5 V. The advantages of the charging/discharging operation of the 5 V battery voltage and the zero voltage control of the battery are verified. In addition, by using a two-stage topology, the battery can be charged, discharged through current control, and discharged to zero voltage. With the proposed topology, the current can be maintained even when the battery voltage drops to zero.

  • we proposed a grid connected peak load compensation system with high discharge current characteristics based on lithium polymer battery for development of the next generation power-station. The lithium polymer battery has faster discharge current characteristics than conventional battery, so that can compensate high active power demanded by load in a short time using the low capacity battery bank. Therefore, it is possible to control power leveling of grid by measuring storage energy of battery and active power which is needed from load. The validity of proposed system was verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • Recently, hybrid generation systems combine multiple energy sources or storage components to optimize the characteristics of the individual energy sources. In this paper, a battery integrated PV power optimizer for PV-battery hybrid power generation system is proposed. PV system using proposed topology can easily increase battery capacity and remove high power bidirectional converter to control bulky battery bank.

  • Increased fossil fuel consumption causes global warming, environmental pollution, and abnormal climate change. Wind-generated power installation is proposed to solve this problem. Recently, the wind power plant construction case encourages the installation of the energy storage system (ESS) to improve the intermittency of wind power. The maximized ESS operation profits connected to wind power are not generated in the simplest operation pattern of charging at night and discharging at day. The battery charging efficiency improvement should be considered to get more profits. Thus, there is a possibility of increasing ESS operation profits by analyzing the battery AC and DC charging/discharging efficiency and the yearly average sealed maintenance free (SMP) in hours. In this paper, the battery impedance characteristic, AC and DC charging/discharging efficiency, and the yearly average SMP are analyzed. The operation scenario to improve the ESS battery charging efficiency connected to wind power is proposed and verified via simulation.

  • The object of this paper is to optimize the battery system for supplying stably power in separate house in which a PV-wind hybrid power generation system is applied. In a power system to be used in a stand alone, it is very important to build optimize the electrical storage system and to utilize it for supplying stably output voltage when there is a shortage of the power generation capacity or there is no sunshine, or when power is to be supplied with a load. This paper provides an optimized method to evaluate capacity of battery by analyzing advantages and disadvantages of the existing battery evaluating method being used in each company for supplying stably power in separate house utilizing the new renewable energy such as a light of the sun.
