  • A potentiometric sodium-ion (Na+) sensor was prepared using a screen-printing process with carbon and silver inks. The two-electrode configuration of the sensor resulted in potential differences in Na+ solutions according to Nernstian equation. The obtained Na+-sensor exhibited an ideal Nernstian sensitivity, fast response time, and low limit of detection. The Nernstian response was stable when the sensor was tested for repeatability and long-term durability. The Na+-selective membrane coated onto the carbon electrode selectively passed sodium ions against interfering ions, indicating an excellent selectivity. The portable Na+-sensor was finally fabricated using a printed circuit system, demonstrating the successful measurements of Na+ concentrations in various real samples.

  • The polymeric membrane electrodes based on N,N'-bis-pyridin-2-ylmethylene-naphthalene-1,8-diamine as an ion carrier were prepared and tested for the copper-ion selective electrode. The membrane has a linear dynamic range between $10^{-6}$ and $10^{-2}$ M with a Nernstian slope of 29.6 mV per decade, and its detection limit was $10^{-5.62}$M. The potentiometric response is independent of the pH range of 3-5. The proposed electrode showed good selectivity and response for $Cu^{2+}$ over a wide variety of other metal ions in pH 4.0 buffer solutions.

  • A new solvent polymeric membrane sensor based on tetra(p-chlorophenyl)porphyrinato manganese (III) acetate is described which demonstrates excellent selectivity toward the triiodide ion. The electrode has a linear dynamic range between 1.0 ${\times}$ $10^{-2}$ M and 7.0 ${\times}$$10^{-6}$M with a Nernstian slope of $-59.6{\pm}1$ mV per decade and a detection limit of 5.0 ${\times}$$10^{-6}$M. The proposed sensor revealed good selectivities for triiodide over a wide variety of other anions and could be used in a pH range 2-9. The electrode can be used for at least two months without any considerable divergence in potential. It was applied as indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of the triiodide and As(III) ions.

  • A potentiometric flow injection biosensor for the analysis of anti-cholinesterases (anti-ChEs), based on inhibition of enzyme activity, was developed. The sensor system consists of a reactor with acetylcholinesterase (AChE) immobilized on controlled pore glass and a detector with an $H^{+}-selective$ PVC-based membrane electrode. The principle of the analysis is based on the fact that the degree of inhibition of AChE by an anti-ChE is dependent on the concentration of the anti-ChE in contact with AChE. The sensor system was optimized by changing systematically the operating parameters of the sensor to evaluate the effect of the changes on sensor response to ACh. The optimized biosensor was applied to the analysis of paraoxon, an organophosphorus pesticide. Treatment of the inhibited enzyme with pyridine-2-aldoxime fully restored the enzyme activity allowing repeated use of the sensor.

  • The performances of tetracycline based cation selective polymeric membrane electrodes of many sets with different plasticizers were investigated as the selectivity of ion-selective electrodes and optodes are greatly influenced by membrane solvent and also controlled by plasticizers. The membrane 1 with Bis(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate (DOS) and additive shows good potentiometric performance toward Ca2+ (slope: 27.8 mV per decade; DL: -4.52) including selectivity. Contrastingly, membrane 4 with Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) shows near-Nernstian response, it has also shown the best measuring range and detection limit for Ca2+ (29.5 mV and -5.10) and Mg2+ (24.4 mV and -5.04) and the least selectivity has been also observed between Ca2+ and Mg2+. When the membrane 1 and 4 were used together to flow system, we could determine the concentration of Ca2+ and Mg2+, simultaneously.

  • The potentiometric response of electrode no. 4 based on 1,3-bisbridged cofacial-calix[6]crown-5-ether (IV) gave a sub-Nernstian (45.0 mV/decade) response and the best detection limit (-log $a_{ep}$ = 4.73) towards epinephrine. The responses are decreasing in the order of epinephrine > $K^+$, dopamine > $NH_4^+$ > norepinephrine > $Na^+$. It is remarkable that the proposed electrode shows the reasonable selectivity to epinephrine against other catecholamine neurotransmitters (dopamine and norepinephrine) as well as alkali metal ions.

  • A new solvent polymeric membrane electrode, based on N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine Ni(II) as the ionophore, was designed. The oxalate-selective electrode has the dynamic range between 1.0 10-6 M and 1.0 10-1 M with a Nernstian slope of -28.7 1.0 mV per decade. The detection limit was 6.3 10-7 M. The proposed electrode revealed good selectivities for oxalate over a variety of other anions and could be used in a pH range of 2.0-7.8. The electrode can be used for at least two months without any considerable divergence in potential. The designed electrode was applied as an indicator electrode in the potentiometric determination of oxalate in real samples.

  • Ion-selective eleltrodes(ISEs) are simple electrodechemical devices for the direct measurement of ions in the samples. A novel potentiometric biosensor for the determination of L-Malate or D-isocitrate has been developed by using CO2-3 -ISE-FIA system was composed of a pump, an injector, a malic enzyme or isocitric dehydrogenase enzyme reactor, a CO2-3 -ISE, a pH/mV meter, and an integrater. The various factors, such as buffer capacity types of plstericizer and polymer, were optimized for the CO2-3 selectivity. In this novel CO2-3 --ISE-FIA system, the potential difference due to the amount of CO2-3 produced from each enzyme reaction was proportional to the amount of L-malate or D-isocitrate.

  • The potentiometric response behavior of a polypyrrole(PPy) coated Pt electrode to nitrate ion has been studied. The electrode shows a nernstian behavior with a slope of 59 mV over 0.50 M to $1.0{\times}10^{-3}M\;NO_3\;^-$ and a detection limit of $1.0{\times}10^{-4}M\;NO_3\;^-$. The response of the electrode is fast and the selectivities for $I^-,\;ClO_4\;^-,\;and\;IO_4\;^-$ are found to be improved. The effect of pH on the potential response to $NO_3\;^-$ is compared with the existing nitrate ion selective electrodes.
