Rainwater harvesting system (RWH) can provide a relief for the household and farmers especially in areas with intense water scarcity during the long lull of rainy season. However, much attention has not been given to this alternative water source in Nigeria. This paper estimates the per capita water demand for 1,950 inhabitants and rainwater potential in Ojonbodu Estate, Oyo State, Nigeria, using data from detailed questionnaires, water consumption calculator software, and 20-year rainfall data. The potential rainwater estimation was based on amount of precipitation, size of catchment and runoff coefficient. Consequently, using estimated values of $39420m^3$ and $6.5114{\times}10^7m^3$ for per capita consumption and potential rainwater respectively, the rainwater harvesting system was designed for rainwater collection, and storage. The harvested rainwater was $450, 000m^3$ with collection efficiency of 69.16 %, which exceeded the household water consumption requirement. Thus, the harvested rainwater was able to meet the estimated water demand of the Ojonbodu Estate households during the period of water scarcity.

Globally, agriculture is one of the largest consumers and polluters of water resources, contributing to the unsustainable use of limited water resources. To reduce the resource use and environmental footprints associated with current and future food systems, researchers and policy makers have recommended the transition to sustainable and healthier diets and the reduction of food loss and waste along the food supply chain. However, there is limited information on the synergistic effects and trade-offs of adopting the two measures. In this study, we assessed the water-saving potential of the two measures in South Korea using environmentally extended input-output relying on the EXIOBASE database for the reference year 2020, along with scenario analysis to model the potential outcomes. Specifically, we analyzed scenarios where meat consumption was reduced by 30% and 50% and in combination with a 50% reduction in food waste at the consumption stage for each scenario. According to our findings, by considering individual measures of dietary change and food waste reduction, shifting to a diet with 30% and 50% less meat consumption could lead to reduction in water footprint by 6.9% and 7.5%, respectively, while 50% reduction in food waste at the consumption stage could save about 14% of water footprint. However, the synergistic effects of the two measures such as 30% less meat consumption and 50% food waste reduction, and 50% less meat consumption and 50% food waste reduction result to 20% and 24% reductions in water footprint, respectively. Moreover, our findings also showed that increasing food consumption with high environmental impacts could promote resources use inefficiency when waste occurs. Thus, policy strategies that address synergistic effects of both dietary change and food waste reduction should be strengthened to achieve sustainable food system. International and national policies can increase resource efficiency by utilizing all available reduction potentials while considering strategies interactions.
Agricultural water for crops are faced with the need to improve the use efficiency due to the impact of climate change. Water productivity (WP) is known as a good indicator for assessing resources efficiency. This study was conducted to assess WP of rice and potential water consumption (PWC) as new indicator for water use efficiency assessment. The average of WP was 0.7 kg/㎥, and Jeonbuk had the highest WP as 0.83 kg/㎥. Kangwon and Kyungbuk had the lowest WP as 0.59 kg/㎥. PWC showed the same trend because of rice consumption per capita, but Total PWC considering population living in each province showed the different trend with PWC. Every year, the changing patterns of WP was increasing little by little, and the patterns of PWC was decreasing greatly than WP. These results mean that WP has been slowly improved through breed development and irrigation techniques, and PWC was affected by reduced rice consumption and WP increasing. PWC could also be useful as an indicator to compare the water use efficiency between provinces or nations.

Relationship between the optimum soil water content and clay content on soil samples from mid-latitude European forest was tested. Soil samples from 4 different experimental sites (two forest sites in the Netherlands and a Danish forest) were collected, and analyzed for the soil physical and chemical characteristics. Water retention curves for the soil samples were determined according to the standard procedure ISO 11274, and pF decreased with increase in soil water contents. NO is simultaneously produced and consumed by microbiological processes, which comprise of nitrification and denitrification. NO consumption and production rates were determined from the soil samples and compared to their corresponding water retention curves in order to find the optimum soil water content and matric potential for maximum NO release from mid-latitude soils. NO consumption rate coefficient (k) in Hollandse Hout was significantly lower than those in other soil sites. Maximum NO production was observed at an intermediate soil moisture ($0.2{\sim}0.3kg/kg$) in all the soil samples. Resulting from the NO consumption and production rates for the soils, the empirical NO fluxes of the different soils were calculated in the laboratory.
In this study, to reduce the consumption of chemicals in cleaning processes, Si-wafers contaiminated with metallic impurities were cleaned with electrolyzed water(EW), which was generated by the electrolysis of a diluted electrolyte solution or ultra pure water(UPW). Electrolyzed water could be controlled for obtaining wide ranges of pH and ORP(oxidation-reduction potential). The pH and oxidation-reduction potential of anode water and cathode water were measured to be 4.7 and +1000mV, and 6.3 and -550mV, respectively. To analyze the amount of metallic impurities on Si-wafer surfaces, ICP-MS was introduced. Anode water was effective for Cu removal, while cathode water was more effective for Fe removal.

Solar energy, which is one of renewable energy, would be the most useful resources that can be applied to making energy recycling villages without using fossil energy. This study analyzed energy potential on solar energy considering weather condition in three traditional villages and compared with energy consumption surveyed. A photovoltaic system having 3.0kWp capacity of unit module can generate 182.5%, 96.1% and 170.9% of the yearly mean consumption of electric power in Makhyun, Boojang, and Soso, respectively. A flat-plate solar collector having $2.64m^2$ area of unit module can generate warm water of $142{\ell}$/day, $89{\ell}$/day, and $173{\ell}$/day, respectively in three study villages. In Makhyun and Soso, photovoltaic power and warm water produced by solar energy were sufficient to supply required amount of electric power and warm water. However, both electric power and warm water produced by unit solar module were not sufficient in Boojang area, and so it is required to increase the module area by more than 50%. According to the results of this study, the appropriate combination of energy resources can be applied to rural green-village planning if the characteristic of energy potential for each local area is considered.

This paper presents the static characteristics of EGR-WI combined system. The water injection system was statically characterized by recording the engine exhaust outlet $NO_x$ emissions for comparison with baseline $NO_x$ emissions. Effects of the water injection system on CO and HC emissions and fuel consumption were examined. The research engine used for these experiments was a 103 kW turbocharged, intercooled, 2.5 L VM Motori CIDI engine equipped with a cooled EGR system. Water injection in the intake system demonstrated the potential for significant reductions in engine outlet $NO_x$ emissions. The system has reduced engine outlet $NO_x$ emissions by 40-50%, but caused significant increases in CO and HC emissions, particularly at low loads. Fuel consumption effects were minimal.

As the semiconductor devices are miniaturized, the number of the unit cleaning processes increases. In order to processes by conventional RCA cleaning process, the consumption of volume of liquid chemical and DI water became huge. Therefore, the problem of environmental issues are evolved by the increased consumption of chemicals. To resolve this matter, an advanced cleaning process by Electrolyzed Water was studied in this work. The electrolyzed water was made by an electrolysis equipment which was composed of three chambers of anode, cathode, and middle chambers. In the case of electrolyzed water with electrolytes in the middle chamber, oxidatively acidic water of anode and reductively alkaline water of cathode were obtained. The oxidation/reduction potentials and pH of anode water and cathode water were measured to be +l000mV and 4.8, and -530mV and 6.3, respectively. The Si-wafers contaminated with metallic impurities were cleaning with the electrolyzed water. To analysis the amounts of metallic impurities on Si-water surfaces, ICP-MS(Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass spectrometer) was introduced. From results of ICP-MS measurements, it was concluded that the ability of electrolyzed water was equivalent to that of the conventional RCA cleaning.
In this study, the thermal performance of the room control system is analyzed in terms of control performance, potential for coil expansion and energy consumption through experiments comparing the individual room control system and an existing system. The results of this study show that the existing system is not able to supply design water flow rate and does not accurately maintain the set point temperature in each room. However, the individual room control system can set a room air temperature for each room, for it is able to supply design water flow and accurately control the set point temperature in each room and can reduce the energy consumption compared to the existing system. Moreover, the individual room control system can reduce the number of coil division zone and facilitates the construction process, because it can extend the length of the coil division.
