The purpose of this study was to collect basic data the health care of postpartum women. Three hundred seventy five women who were 3 days postpartum were enrolled at two university hospitals. Data were collected from April 1999 to November, 1999 using a questionnaire titled 'Symptom Table on Fatigue Perception' designed by the Fatigue Research Committee of Japan. The collected data were scored by the use of mean and standard deviation according to the subjective symptoms of fatigue and each item was analyzed independent variable by the t-test and the ANOVA test. The results were as follows: 1. The average fatigue score of subjects was 1.61. Physical fatigue had the highest value with a mean of 1.82, followed by neuro-sensory fatigue with a mean score of 1.54, psychological fatigue was rated lowest with a mean of 1.45. 2. With the respect to the general characteristics of subjects, there were statistically significant differences in difficulty of labor (t=2.335. p=.020), sleeping time (t=2.340. p=.020) and desirability of pregnancy (t=2.409. p=.018).
Objectives: Young mothers are vulnerable to postpartum depression due to role transition-related stress. Understanding the causes underlying these stressors is essential for developing effective interventions. Methods: This study analyzed the 2018 Indonesian Basic Health Research data. The Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview was used to assess postpartum depression symptoms in mothers aged 15-24 years with infants aged 0-6 months. In 1285 subjects, the risk factors for postpartum depression were evaluated using multivariate logistic regression. Results: The overall prevalence of depression in the 6 months postpartum was 4.0%, with a higher prevalence in urban areas (5.7%) than in rural areas (2.9%). Urban and rural young mothers showed distinct postpartum depression risk factors. In urban areas, living without a husband (odds ratio [OR], 3.82; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.24 to 11.76), experiencing preterm birth (OR, 4.67; 95% CI, 1.50 to 14.50), having pregnancy complications (OR, 3.03; 95% CI, 1.20 to 7.66), and having postpartum complications (OR, 5.23; 95% CI, 1.98 to 13.80) were associated with a higher risk of postpartum depression. In rural areas, postpartum depression was significantly associated with a smaller household size (OR, 3.22; 95% CI, 1.00 to 10.38), unwanted pregnancy (OR, 4.40; 95% CI, 1.15 to 16.86), and pregnancy complications (OR, 3.41; 95% CI, 1.31 to 8.88). Conclusions: In both urban and rural contexts, postpartum depression relates to the availability of others to accompany young mothers throughout the postpartum period and offer support with reproductive issues. Support from the family and the healthcare system is essential to young mothers' mental health. The healthcare system needs to involve families to support young mothers' mental health from pregnancy until the postpartum period.
The Purpose of this study was to build a substantive theory about the experience of postpartum depression. The qualitative research method used was rounded theory. The interviewees were eight others who had experienced postpartum depression. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with audiotape recording done by the investigator over a period of twelve months. he data were analyzed simultaneously by a constant comparative method in which new data were continuously coded into categories and properties according to Strauss and Corbin's methodology. Analysis the grounded data resulted in 28 concepts being identified. Eight categories emerged from the analysis. The categories were regret, loss of freedom, isolation of oneself, heartache, loss, emotional upset, avoidance, recovery. These substantive categories are consistent with precious research results. Causal conditions included : regret, loss of freedom. Phenomena : heartache, loss, emotional upset. Context : isolation oneself. Intervention condition : avoidance. Action/interaction strategies : desire for recovery. Consequences : recovery. These categories were synthesized into the core concept-The process of filling the empty loss of self. The process of the experienced postpartum depression was ① change after delivery, ② searching for a reason for depression, ③ effort to recover from postpartum depression, ④ recovery from postpartum depression and return to previous life. The process of recovery from postpartum depression was proceeded by ① support from others, especially husband, ② resolution of stressful life events, ③ reconstructing of life goals and resolution strategies, ④ acceptance of depression and seeking psychiatric treatment. Seven hypotheses were derived from the analysis. ① Mothers who experienced stressful life event and economic problem are more depressive. ② Mothers who have conflict with parents are more depressive. ③ The more somatic symptoms, the more depression. ④ Social support facilitates recovery from postpartum depression. ⑤ Mothers who have lower self-esteem are more depressive. ⑥ Mother's role overload disturbs recovery from postpartum depression. ⑦ Ideal maternal identity facilitates recovery from postpartum depression. Through this substantive theory, nurses can understand the importance of postpartum depression management.
Purpose: There has not been decisional consensus in the concepts and the ways of postpartum cares between Western and non-Western cultures though the importance of postpartum period has been emphasized by the multitude of health professionals. In this study, we investigated the differences in recognition concerning postpartum care among Koreans, Korean residents in America, and Americans (hereafter, K, KA, A). Methods: We used questionnaire of women who had given birth from last 6 weeks to less than 13 years. The women consisted of three groups;104 K, 44 KA, and 44 A. Results: In the perception survey concerning postpartum care, every three group thought that postpartum care was important. However, there were differences in understanding how it would affect women's health, and what they did in the period. K significantly agreed with the content and the importance of postpartum care. The investigation concerning seven categories of postpartum care showed that K group performed the 6 categories except consuming medication beneficial for the postpartum care. KA group performed in a low rate and A group performed two categories in a significantly low rate two categories; avoiding cold stimulation and keeping the body warm. Conclusion: Based on this study, it should be suggested that there were common points and differences among the recognition concerning postnatal care in three groups. Therefore, health professionals make efforts in understanding diversities on postnatal care and providing the adequate services reflecting each mother's needs and recognition.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the current characteristics of outpatients using herbal medicine for treating Sanhupung and provide treatment instructions in the clinical field. Methods: To analyze characteristics of outpatients with postpartum disease, I searched medical records from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2020 using O94 (Sequelae of complication of pregnancy) in an oriental medicine hospital and 73 Sanpuhung patients were analyzed. Results: 1. The average age of Sanpuhung outpatients was 32.83±3.14 years old. The mean body weight difference between full-term pregnancy and visiting date was -7.79±4.23 kg. 2. The most chief complaints of Sanpuhung outpatients were musculo-skeletal symptoms in 57 (78.08%) patients followed by neuropsychiatric symptoms and circulatory symptoms. In musculo-skeletal symptoms, the most chief complaint area was wrist in 48 (65.75%) patients followed by waist, shoulder and knee. 3. 68 (93.15%) patients gave birth between 38 and 42 weeks of pregnancy, 33 (45.20%) patients gave birth by caesarean operation. Patients delivered in July visited the hospital most frequently for postpartum care. 4. 68 (93.15%) patients gave birth to single-born babies. The average birth weight was 3.13±0.45 kg. 5. In distribution from delivery to visitation period, the average was 65.08±103.2 days. The number of visits less than two times was 72 (98.63%). 6. A total of 73 outpatients got herbal medicine. Depending on the symptoms, herbal medicines were different from each other. Ikgibohyeol-tang-gagambang, Ojeok-san-gagambang and Gunggui-tang-gagambang were mostly used. Conclusions: These results could be helpful to treat Sanhupung patients in Korean gynecologic clinical fields.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to reflect the patient's perspective in the process of developing Korean medicine clinical practice guideline (CPG) of puerperal wind disorder by survey. Methods: Five hundred fifty patients were surveyed from November 3rd, 2021 to November 8th, 2021 by internet. This study is an exploratory cross-sectional survey study, and descriptive statistics and frequency analysis were conducted on respondents' general characteristics, postpartum symptoms, the history of using treatment institution for puerperal wind disorder, satisfaction of medical institutions and perception of postpartum care. Results: Survey results showed that 92.0% of respondents experienced symptoms after childbirth, and 56.2% of the symptoms were arthralgia, followed by obesity with 41.8%. Among puerperal wind disorder patients, 34.2% had treatment history, and 54.3% received Korean medical treatment. Treatment satisfaction was confirmed to be higher in Korean medical treatment. The necessity of postpartum care was recognized at 95.7% of respondents, and the performance rate of traditional Korean postpartum care was also high. Conclusions: Based on a realistic patient-centered basis, it is a study that can lay the foundation for standardizing Korean medicine treatment and strengthening coverage in the future.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to report the effects of Korean medical treatment (acupuncture, moxibustion, herb medicine) combined with intense pulsed light (IPL) on three postpartum patients with freckles worsened during pregnancy. Methods and Results The postpartum patients with freckles were treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medication and IPL. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD) and stress, as well as factors influencing PPD, among women in Saudi Arabia. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional online survey and recruited participants during postpartum visits to the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Data collection was done using Arabic versions of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, and a sociodemographics and obstetric history questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential analyses were conducted, including multiple linear regression using a stepwise method. Results: Data from the 270 participants showed low levels of postpartum depressive symptoms with a mean score of 2.54±4.5 and low levels of perceived stress with a mean score of 2.49±6.2. While 94.4% of the participants reported low levels of stress and PPD, 5.6% reported elevated levels (≥10 for PPD, ≥14 for stress). The stepwise regression analysis showed significant results (p<.001), accounting for 34% of the variance in PPD. The factors significantly influencing PPD included the type of family, stress, number of abortions, disease during pregnancy, and family income. Importantly, perceived stress emerged as a factor influencing PPD. Conclusion: Although the majority of participants exhibited low levels of PPD, about 1 in 18 showed elevated levels. The identification of significant influencing factors highlights the need for targeted interventions to effectively address mental health concerns in postpartum women.
