  • According to related studies, it was revealed that the procedural deviation plays a significant role in initiating accidents or incidents. This means that, to maximize safety, it is indispensable to be able to answer the question of “why the operators deviate from procedures\ulcorner” In this study, the SC (step complexity) measure is introduced to investigate its applicability for studying the procedural deviation, since it was shown that the change of the operators' performance is strongly correlated with the change of SC scores. This means that the SC measure could play an important role for researches related to the procedural deviation, since it is strongly believed that complicated procedures would affect both the operator' performance and the possibility of the procedural deviation. Thus, to ensure this expectation, the meaning of the SC measure is investigated through brief explanations including the necessity, theoretical basis and verification activities of the SC measure. As a result, it is confirmed that the SC measure can be used to explain the change of the operators' performance due to the task complexity implied by procedures. In addition, it seems that the SC measure nay be useful for various purposes, particularly for scrutinizing the relationship between the procedural deviation and complicated procedures.

  • We study limits of sums of fuzzy numbers with different spreads and different shape functions where addition is defined by the sup-t-norm. We show the existence of the limit of the series of fuzzy numbers and prove the uniform continuity of the limit. Finally we investigate a law of large numbers for sequences of fuzzy numbers.

  • Recently, Carlsson, Full\acute{e}$r and Majlender [1] presented the concept of possibilitic correlation representing an average degree of interaction between marginal distribution of a joint possibility distribution as compared to their respective dispersions. They also formulated the weak and strong forms of the possibilistic Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. In this paper, we define a new probability measure. Then the weak and strong forms of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality are immediate consequence of probabilistic Cauchy-Schwarz inequality with respect to the new probability measure.

  • Leakage of hydrocarbon compound from underground storage tank has been a significant issue to the hazard of environmental contaminants. It is therefore necessary to develop the measurement technique of hydrocarbon compound concentration. In this study, the possibility of TDR application to measure concentration of hydrocarbon compound, especially diesel, in a sandy soil was investigated. Experiments were conducted in two different conditions. The first one was to measure the resistances of the soil columns packed according to the various ratios of tab water and diesel content in the total voids. The other was to measure the resistance of the soil under the flow condition where diesel oil was allowed to infiltrate into the KCl-saturated soil column. The experimental results showed that there exists a significant relationship between oil% and TDR-measured resistance. This suggests that TDR can be an effective device to measure the concentration of hydrocarbon compound in a soil.

  • In this paper a fuzzy similarity measure is proposed. The proposed fuzzy similarity measure considers the relative distance between data and cluster centers in addition to the Euclidean distance to decide the degree of similarity. The boundary of a cluster center is constracted on the competitive region and expanded on the less competitive region. This result shows the possibility of using relative distance as a similarity measure.

  • According to wide-spread experience in many industries, a procedure is one of the most effective countermeasures to reduce the possibility of human related problems. Unfortunately, a systematic framework to evaluate the complexity of procedural tasks seems to be very scant. For this reason, the TACOM measure, which can quantify the complexity of procedural tasks, has been developed. In this study, the appropriateness of the TACOM measure is investigated by comparing TACOM scores regarding the procedural tasks of high speed train drivers with the associated workload scores measured by the NASA-TLX technique. As a result, it is observed that there is a meaningful correlation between the TACOM scores and the associated NASA-TLX scores. Therefore, it is expected that the TACOM measure can properly quantify the complexity of procedural tasks.

  • Objectives: Improving public capability to obtain, understand, and use health information is important for decision-making and communication. This study attempts to measure adults' literacy of the information provided by a public health institution. Factors affecting different health literacy level are also investigated. The relation between public risk perception and health literacy is examined as well. Methods: A total of 800 korean adults were surveyed. To provide the participants health literacy questions, health messages of heavy metals released by KFDA as well as literacy questions developed by NIKL were used. A total of eight questions were developed to measure health literacy. The dimensions of risk perception proposed by Brewer et al.(2008) were modified to measure risk perception. Results: The average percentage of correct answer for all literacy questions was only 65.57%. Individuals at the older age, and with lower education/ income level were more likely to be low literate. In addition, health literacy was strongly associated with risk perception. Conclusions: Public literacy of health information is influenced by socio demographic factors. This study suggested a possibility that low health literacy may affect unrealistically high risk perception. Further studies with sophisticated methodologies to measure health literacy need to be developed.

  • The main purpose of our study is to propose a new methodology to develop the multi-parametric measure including linear and nonlinear measures of heart rate variability diagnosing cardiovascular disease. We recorded electrocardiogram for three recumbent postures; the supine, left lateral, and right lateral postures. Twenty control subjects (age: $56.70{\pm}9.23$ years), 51 patients with angina pectoris (age: $59.98{\pm}8.41$ years) and 13 patients with acute coronary syndrome (age: $59.08{\pm}9.86$ years) participated in this study. To develop the multi-parametric measure of HRV, we used the multiple discriminant analysis method among statistical techniques. As a result, the multiple discriminant analysis gave 75.0% of goodness of fit. When the linear and nonlinear measures of HRV are individually used as a clinical tool to diagnose cardiac autonomic function, there is quite a possibility that the wrong results will be obtained due to each measure has different characteristics. Although our study is a preliminary one, we suggest that the multi-parametric measure, which takes into consideration the whole possible linear and nonlinear measures of HRV, may be helpful to diagnose the cardiovascular disease as a diagnostic supplementary tool.

  • This study investigated children's cognition of physically impossible televised events by age and types of tasks. The 67 subjects were 3-, 5-, and 7-year-old children from 1 day care center and 1 elementary school in Seoul. Children's responses were taped and transcribed. Cognition about the events were measured by recognition of impossibility, possibility of replication, and reasons for the possibility of replication of the events. Data were analysed by ANOVA(repeated measure) and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test. Children's cognitions about the events varied by age groups. Three-year-old children's recognition of the 3 tasks was different from that of the 5-and 7-year-old children; while 3-year-olds interpreted the events on TV as real, 5- and 7-year-olds considered them to be unreal.

  • This paper introduces a statistical approach of intrusion detection and tunes an intrusion detection model using fuzzy ste. We describel the method of applying fuzzy set for NIDES intensity measure. By using fuzzy set, we improve the algorithm for evaluating score value of NIDES, and present a possibility of intrusion detection system.
