  • In the case of long-stator linear drives, unlike rotative drives for which speed or position sensors are a single unit attached to the shaft, these sensors extend along the guideway. The position signal transmitted from maglev vehicle can't meet the need of the real-time propulsion control. In this paper the position estimator for propulsion inverter driving long stator linear synchronous motor (LSLSM) in high speed maglev train is proposed. In order to get the higher resolution of the position information transmitted from vehicle, Full order state observer is proposed for position estimator.

  • Obstructive sleep apnea in patients, between 70 and 80 percent, can be cured with just a posture correcting. It needed to know the current position information for correcting the position. The pressure sensors of the array type were used to obtain position information. These sensors can obtain information from the experimenter about position. In addition, air cylinder corrected the position of the experimenter by lifting the bed. The experimenter can be changed position without breaking during sleep by the system.

  • The speed and position information of the rotor are required in the speed control of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motors). This information is generally provided by shaft encoder or resolver. It is weak in the dusty, high temperature, and EMI environment. Consequntly, much attention has been given to SRM control for eliminationating the position and speed sensors. In this paper, a new estimation algorithm for the rotor position and speed for SRM drives is described. The algorithm is implemented by the sliding mode observer. The stability and robustness of the sliding observer for the parameter variations of the SRM are proved by variable structure control theory. Speed control of the SRM is accomplished by the estimated speed and position. Experiment results verify that the mode observer is able to estimate the speed and position well.

  • This paper proposes the algorithm which a mobile robot tracks the object captured by ultrasonic sensors of the robot and automatically generates a path according to the object In the proposed algorithm, a robot detects movements of the object as using ultrasonic sensors and then the robot follows the moving object. This algorithm simplifies robot path planning. The eight ultrasonic sensors on the robot capture distances between the robot and objects. The robot detects the movements of the object by using the changes of the distances captured by ultrasonic sensors. The target position of the robot is determined as the position of the detected moving object. The robot follows the object according to this movement strategy. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified through experiments.

  • As rotor position is a reference of coordinate in vector control of PMSM, the information of exact rotor position is required. To measure the position of motors, hall-effect sensors, encoders, resolvers, etc. are used. Among these sensors, resolvers have good endurance in the variation of circumstance and can be used in a wide range of temperature, but resolvers are less exact than encoders. In addition, resolvers have a drawback that the output signal contains periodic error components. Thus, this paper proposes a compensation method for the unique position error in resolvers using Kalman filter to achieve high performance control of PMSM. The validity of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through simulation studies.

  • Speed and torque controls of permanent magnet synchronous motors are usually attained by the application of position and speed sensors. However, speed and position sensors require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of a motor. Therefore, many studies have been performed for the elimination of speed and position sensors. This paper investigates a novel sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed control strategy utilizes the active and reactive torque control for maximizing the active torque of a sensorless PMSM. The proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experimentation.

  • The rotor position information is needed to control the speed of SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor). The information of the rotor position have been generally acquired by using the encoder or the resolver. Speed sensors, however, occasionally malfunction under the hostile environment such as EMI, dust, high temperature and humidity, etc. There have been many efforts to drive the motor without speed sensors. In this paper, the EKF(Extanded Kalman Filter) theory is proposed to drive the SRM without speed sensors. Proposed method keeps a robust speed estimation performance against the input noise because it includes a noise model of measuring noise within the system. The validity of the proposed method has been examined by simulations.
