We made a study on real-time determination method for relative position using the laser-measured distance data between satellites. We numerically performed the determination of relative position in accordance with extended Kalman filter algorithm using the vectors obtained through nonlinear equation of relative motion, laser simulator for distance measurement, and attitude determination of chief satellite. Because the spherical parameters of relative distance and direction are used, there occur some changes in precision depending on changes in relative distance when determining the relative position. As a result of simulation, it was possible to determine the relative position with several millimeter-level errors at a distance of 10 km, and sub-millimeter level errors at a distance of 1 km. In addition, we performed the determination of relative position assuming the case that global positioning system data was not received for long hours to see the impact of determination of chief satellite orbit on the determination of relative position. The determination of precise relative position at a long distance carried out in this study can be used for scientific mission using the satellite formation flying.

A CCD camera is used to determine the position of the point sources that influence the measurement accuracy in the absolute interferometer. The principle of determination method is based on the GPS in which the position is determined by more than 3 distance information from the known positions. Two-dimensional array of photo-detectors in the CCD camera is used as known positions. Performing optimization of the cost function constructed with phase values measured at each pixel on the CCD camera, the position coordinates of each source is precisely determined.
In this paper, the position determination problem for geometry PIG is considered. The PIG system is a device to examine the gas pipeline condition and detect the accurate position of dent or any undesirable state. In order to determine the position, the smoothing algorithm has been used and its performance anyalsis has been done by Monte Carlo simulation technigue.

Position determination accuracy is strongly depending on how much precisely and frequently satellite receiver measures transmitted signals from terminals on target animals when Doppler effect is applied for position determination. ARGOS satellite system has shown relatively high position determination accuracy by operating multiple satellites, which enable operator to get more Doppler shift data from terminals. In case of animal tracking mission with single satellite, however, it is difficult for the satellite receiver to receive transmitted signals from terminals frequently during short period that satellite passes over ground terminals. This is one of the main sources to decrease position accuracy on target animals. In this paper, the Doppler rate estimation is implemented to increase the number of Doppler shift data received by single satellite. It is proved that the relatively high position determination accuracy with increased number of estimated data can be obtained. We also suggest that the Doppler rate estimation is applicable for position determination system with single satellite.

This study shows an alternative method for the determination of object's position, based on a computer vision method. This approach develops the vision system model to define the reciprocal relationship between the 3-D real space and 2-D image plane. The developed model involves the bilinear six-view parameters, which is estimated using the relationship between the camera space location and real coordinates of known position. Based on estimated parameters in independent cameras, the position of unknown object is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits data of unknown points in each of the 2-D image plane of cameras. This vision control methods the robust and reliable, which overcomes the difficulties of the conventional research such as precise calibration of the vision sensor, exact kinematic modeling of the robot, and correct knowledge of the relative positions and orientation of the robot and CCD camera. Finally, the developed vision control method is tested experimentally by performing determination of object position in the space using computer vision system. These results show the presented method is precise and compatible.

Currently, increasing the number of artillery units requires more deployment space in FABA. However, available positions of artillery units in FEBA is limited due to mountainous terrains. Therefore, it is hard to find enough artillery position space in accordance with the field artillery mannual. This paper studies on determination of the size of battery position in order to maximize the firing-effectiveness and to minimize the enemy threat. Also, it studies the possibility of reducing the size of a battery position. The optimum size of a battery position id obtained by using Dantzig's model and Supper Quick II model which produces the probability of kill data with various input data. As a result, it shows that the size of battery position can be reduced without decreasing the firing-effectiveness.

In sensor network systems, all the nodes are interconnected and the positional information of each sensor is essential. To measure the temperature, position detection and communication functions are required. Many sensor nodes are distributed to a measurement field, and these sensors have three main functions: they measure the distance to the other nodes, the data of which are used to determine the position of each node; they communicate with other nodes; and they measure the temperature of each node. A novel range measurement method using the difference between light and sound propagation speed is proposed. The experimental results show the temperature distribution as measured with the aid of the determined positions. The positions of every node were calculated with a PC program. Eight nodes were manufactured and their fundamental functions were tested. The results of the range measurement method, which takes relatively accurate measurements, contribute significantly to the accuracy of the position determination. Future studies will focus on 3-D position determination and on the architecture of appropriate sensors and actuators.
Camera pose information from 2D face image is very important for making virtual 3D face model synchronize with the real face. It is also very important for any other uses such as: human computer interface, 3D object estimation, automatic camera control etc. In this paper, we have presented a camera position determination algorithm from a single 2D face image using the relationship between mouth position information and face region boundary information. Our algorithm first corrects the color bias by a lighting compensation algorithm, then we nonlinearly transformed the image into $YC_bC_r$ color space and use the visible chrominance feature of face in this color space to detect human face region. And then for face candidate, use the nearly reversed relationship information between $C_b\;and\;C_r$ cluster of face feature to detect mouth position. And then we use the geometrical relationship between mouth position information and face region boundary information to determine rotation angles in both x-axis and y-axis of camera position and use the relationship between face region size information and Camera-Face distance information to determine the camera-face distance. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of our algorithm and the correct determination rate is accredited for applying it into practice.

This paper describes an improved location determination scheme based on the triangulation method calculating a target position. The proposed scheme uses coordinates of intersection points of three circles each generated by measurement of an observer. The target position obtained from the proposed scheme has higher accuracy not only at the vicinity, but also at the periphery of the observation area. The maximum error and the average error with the proposed scheme are reduced by 40.89% and 40.30%, respectively, with respect to conventional methods.
Camera position information from 2D face image is very important for that make the virtual 3D face model synchronize to the real face at view point, and it is also very important for any other uses such as: human computer interface (face mouth), automatic camera control etc. We present an algorithm to detect human face region and mouth, based on special color features of face and mouth in $YC_bC_r$ color space. The algorithm constructs a mouth feature image based on $C_b\;and\;C_r$ values, and use pattern method to detect the mouth position. And then we use the geometrical relationship between mouth position information and face side boundary information to determine the camera position. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm and the Correct Determination Rate is accredited for applying it into practice.
