Using POSTIT Eye Gaze Tracking in Real-time (POSTIT정보 이용한 실시간 눈동자 시선 추적)

  • A method detecting the position of eyes and tracking a gaze point of eyes in realtime using POSIT is suggested in this paper. This algorithm find out a candidate area of eyes using topological characteristics of eyes and then decides the center of eyes using physical characteristics of eyes. To find the eyes, a nose and a mouth are used for POSIT. The experimental results show that proposed method effectively performed detection of eyes in facial image in FERET databases and gave high performance when used for tracking a gaze point of eyes.

  • In this paper, we propose a wavelet based fuzzy neural network(WFNN) based direct adaptive control scheme for the solution of the tracking problem of mobile robots. To design a controller, we present a WFNN structure that merges advantages of neural network, fuzzy model and wavelet transform. The basic idea of our WFNN structure is to realize the process of fuzzy reasoning of wavelet fuzzy system by the structure of a neural network and to make the parameters of fuzzy reasoning be expressed by the connection weights of a neural network. In our control system, the control signals are directly obtained to minimize the difference between the reference track and the pose of mobile robot using the gradient descent(GD) method. In addition, an approach that uses adaptive learning rates for the training of WFNN controller is driven via a Lyapunov stability analysis to guarantee the fast convergence, that is, learning rates are adaptively determined to rapidly minimize the state errors of a mobile robot. Finally, to evaluate the performance of the proposed direct adaptive control system using the WFNN controller, we compare the control performance of the WFNN controller with those of the FNN, the WNN and the WFM controllers.

Performance Optimization of LLAH for Tracking Random Dots under Gaussian Noise (가우시안 잡음을 가지는 랜덤 점 추적을 위한 LLAH의 성능 최적화)

  • Unlike general texture-based feature description algorithms, Locally Likely Arrangement Hashing (LLAH) algorithm describes a feature based on the geometric relationship between its neighbors. Thus, even in poor-textured scenes or large camera pose changes, it can successfully describe and track features and enables to implement augmented reality. This paper aims to optimize the performance of LLAH algorithm for tracking random dots (= features) with Gaussian noise. For this purpose, images with different number of features and magnitude of Gaussian noise are prepared. Then, the performance of LLAH algorithm according to the conditions: the number of neighbors, the type of geometric invariants, and the distance between features, is analyzed, and the optimal conditions are determined. With the optimal conditions, each feature could be matched and tracked in real-time with a matching rate of more than 80%.

  • This paper presents a novel approach to control the augmented reality (AR) objects robustly in a marker-less AR system by fingertip tracking and hand pattern recognition. It is known that one of the promising ways to develop a marker-less AR system is using human's body such as hand or face for replacing traditional fiducial markers. This paper introduces a real-time method to manipulate the overlaid virtual objects dynamically in a marker-less AR system using both hands with a single camera. The left bare hand is considered as a virtual marker in the marker-less AR system and the right hand is used as a hand mouse. To build the marker-less system, we utilize a skin-color model for hand shape detection and curvature-based fingertip detection from an input video image. Using the detected fingertips the camera pose are estimated to overlay virtual objects on the hand coordinate system. In order to manipulate the virtual objects rendered on the marker-less AR system dynamically, a vision-based hand control interface, which exploits the fingertip tracking for the movement of the objects and pattern matching for the hand command initiation, is developed. From the experiments, we can prove that the proposed and developed system can control the objects dynamically in a convenient fashion.

Conceptual Design of Sandglass-like Separator for Immobilized Anionic Radionuclides Using Particle Tracking Based on Computational Fluid Dynamics

  • Anionic radionuclides pose one of the highest risks to the long-term safety assessments of disposal repositories. Therefore, techniques to immobilize and separate such anionic radionuclides are of crucial importance from the viewpoints of safety and waste volume reduction. The main objective of this study is to design a separator with minimum pressure disturbance, based on the concept of a conventional cyclone separator. We hypothesize that the anionic radionuclides can be immobilized onto a nanomaterial-based substrate and that the particles generated in the process can flow via water. These particles are denser than water; hence, they can be trapped within the cyclone-type separator because of its design. We conducted particle tracking analysis using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the conventional cyclone separator and studied the effects due to the morphology of the separator. The proposed sandglass-like design of the separator shows promising results (i.e., only one out of 10,000 particles escaped to the outlet from the separation zone). To validate the design, we manufactured a laboratory-scale prototype separator and tested it for iron particles; the efficiency was ca. 99%. Furthermore, using an additional magnetic effect with the separator, we could effectively separate particles with ~100% efficiency. The proposed sandglass-like separator can thus be used for effective separation and recovery of immobilized anionic radionuclides.

Location Estimation and Obstacle tracking using Laser Scanner for Indoor Mobile Robots (실내형 이동로봇을 위한 레이저 스캐너를 이용한 위치 인식과 장애물 추적)

  • This paper presents the method for location estimation with obstacle tracking method. A laser scanner is used to implement the system, and we assume that the map information is known. We matches the measurement of the laser scanner to estimate the location of the robot by using sequential monte carlo (SMC) method. After estimating the robot's location, the pose of obstacles are detected and tracked, hence, we can predict the collision risk of them. Finally, we present the experiment results to verify the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a framework for creating acrobatic scenes such as soccer ball lifting using various users' videos. The proposed method can generate a desired result within a few seconds using a general video of user recorded with a mobile phone. The framework of this paper is largely divided into three parts. The first is to analyze the posture by receiving the user's video. To do this, the user can calculate the pose of the user by analyzing the video using a deep learning technique, and track the movement of a selected body part. The second is to analyze the movement trajectory of the selected body part and calculate the location and time of hitting the object. Finally, the trajectory of the object is generated using the analyzed hitting information. Then, a natural object lifting scenes synchronized with the input user's video can be generated. Physical-based optimization was used to generate a realistic moving object. Using the method of this paper, we can produce various augmented reality applications.

  • This paper introduces the design of a turtle neck posture correction and prevention system for users of digital devices for a long time. The number of forward head posture patients in Korea increased by 13% from 2018 to 2021, and has not yet improved according to the latest statistics at the present time. Because of the nature of the disease, prevention is more important than treatment. Therefore, in this paper, we designed a system based on built-camera in most laptops to increase the accessiblility of the system, and utilize the features such as Pose Estimation, Face Landmarks Detection, Iris Tracking, and Depth Estimation of Google Mediapipe to prevent the need to produce artificial intelligence models and allow users to easily prevent forward head posture.

A Hybrid Approach of Efficient Facial Feature Detection and Tracking for Real-time Face Direction Estimation (실시간 얼굴 방향성 추정을 위한 효율적인 얼굴 특성 검출과 추적의 결합방법)

  • In this paper, we present a new method which efficiently estimates a face direction from a sequences of input video images in real time fashion. For this work, the proposed method performs detecting the facial region and major facial features such as both eyes, nose and mouth by using the Haar-like feature, which is relatively not sensitive against light variation, from the detected facial area. Then, it becomes able to track the feature points from every frame using optical flow in real time fashion, and determine the direction of the face based on the feature points tracked. Further, in order to prevent the erroneously recognizing the false positions of the facial features when if the coordinates of the features are lost during the tracking by using optical flow, the proposed method determines the validity of locations of the facial features using the template matching of detected facial features in real time. Depending on the correlation rate of re-considering the detection of the features by the template matching, the face direction estimation process is divided into detecting the facial features again or tracking features while determining the direction of the face. The template matching initially saves the location information of 4 facial features such as the left and right eye, the end of nose and mouse in facial feature detection phase and reevaluated these information when the similarity measure between the stored information and the traced facial information by optical flow is exceed a certain level of threshold by detecting the new facial features from the input image. The proposed approach automatically combines the phase of detecting facial features and the phase of tracking features reciprocally and enables to estimate face pose stably in a real-time fashion. From the experiment, we can prove that the proposed method efficiently estimates face direction.

A Real-time Particle Filtering Framework for Robust Camera Tracking in An AR Environment (증강현실 환경에서의 강건한 카메라 추적을 위한 실시간 입자 필터링 기법)

  • This paper describes a real-time camera tracking framework specifically designed to track a monocular camera in an AR workspace. Typically, the Kalman filter is often employed for the camera tracking. In general, however, tracking performances of conventional methods are seriously affected by unpredictable situations such as ambiguity in feature detection, occlusion of features and rapid camera shake. In this paper, a recursive Bayesian sampling framework which is also known as the particle filter is adopted for the camera pose estimation. In our system, the camera state is estimated on the basis of the Gaussian distribution without employing additional uncertainty model and sample weight computation. In addition, the camera state is directly computed based on new sample particles which are distributed according to the true posterior of system state. In order to verify the proposed system, we conduct several experiments for unstable situations in the desktop AR environments.
