This study focuses on affording a material basis for rearranging the manpower supply system in port and logistics industry for Busan's international competitiveness strategies. First of all, the current state and future plan of port and logistics industry, as Busan's main strategic industry, are reviewed. Then theoretical background are introduced for the estimate of demand. As a methodology of this research, Cubic model is applied to estimate the demand of manpower by using 10 year time series data from 1993 to 2002. This paper also surveyed the supply side of port and logistics industry manpower in Busan area. The amounts of mismatched equilibrium between the demand and the supply are measured in this study. The concluding remarks shows some suggestions for the problem of mismatch and the relating policy planning.
This study was to analyze amenity of the port landscapes for North port, South port, and Gamcheon port in Busan. Amenity related variables came from Semantic Differential(SD) method and then were conducted by the factor analysis. Multiple regression was done for the relationship between the amenity and factors. The result found 3 factors, including dynamics, stability, and familarity. Much importance was placed on dynamics among them. Therefore, building port landscapes and their image attracting tourists should consider dynamics in terms of port landscape plan and tourist attraction development for amenity quality management.
The emissions of ozone precursors, NOx and VOCs from a biogenic source and port-related sources (ship, shipping container truck, and cargo handling equipment) were estimated in Busan during 2013. Total biogenic isoprene emission in Busan during 2013 was estimated to be $4,434ton\;yr^{-1}$ with the highest emission (e.g., $28ton\;day^{-1}$) in summer using a BEIS method. Seasonal ozone production rates by isoprene ranged from 0.15 (winter) to 2.08 (summer) $ppb\;hr^{-1}$, contributing the predominant portion to ambient ozone levels. Total emissions of NOx and VOCs from ship traversing Busan ports were estimated to be 29,537 and $814ton\;yr^{-1}$, respectively, showing the significant contribution to total NOx emission in Busan. The emissions of ozone precursors were significantly different depending on ship tonnage and port location. Compared to the ship emission, the emissions of NOx and VOCs from the shipping container trucks in Busan were insignificant (2.9% for NOx and 3.9% for VOCs). Total NOx and VOCs emissions from the cargo handling equipment were estimated to be 1,440 and $133ton\;yr^{-1}$, respectively with the predominance of yard tractors.

In this paper, practical problems for current feeder service between Busan port and west coast of Japan were extracted through in depth interviews with Japanese feeder vessel companies, shippers, and port authority based upon which major criteria (elements) for improvement of the feeder network are structured in hierarchic order and weighed relative importance through AHP method. From the questionnaire answered by Korean and Japanese port users and experts the weights of criteria were calculated and the shipping service was ranked the first by both parties with 0.235 and 0.217, respectively. The port service and support system ranked the second and the third, whereas the port marketing was shown to be the lowest of all. Considering the overall weights, the increase in a port loading and unloading speed of port service was followed by provision of dedicated deck for feeder vessel of port facilities for Korean respondents. Therefore, speed up of the port operations and providing docks for feeder vessel are to be firstly provided for more efficient feeder operations, which would be the basis for the construction of optimal transportation network.

Increasing port competition driven by the containerisation has motivated ports and terminals to focus on their performance to efficiently utilise the available resources and to make strategic decisions in port development and expansion. With both inter-port andintra-port competition increasing in the port of Colombo, this study aims to measure the efficiency of the container terminals in Colombo comparing to terminals in the port of Busan using the DEA window analysis to determine their operational efficiency and to provide suggestions for future port development activities. Multiple window analyses were conducted using CCR and BCC models with different orientations and window lengths to compare the efficiencies of 11 DMUs in both ports during the period from 2015-2019 to measure the efficiencies prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Results revealed the largest terminal operator, PNC in Busan, to be the most efficient overall, while the second highest efficiency was recorded by one of the smallest terminal operators, SAGT in Colombo, among the sample. Although use of DEA in port performance measurement has been popular for many years, efficiency measurements in the port of Colombo, the main hub port in the South Asian region, has not been comprehensively studied so far.
As global supply chain risks proliferate unpredictably, the high interdependence of port and logistics industry intensifies the risk burden. This study conducted fundamental research to explore diverse safety issues in domestic ports. Utilizing news article data about Busan Port, we employed LDA topic modeling and time-series linear regression to understand key safety trends. Over the past 30 years, Busan Port faced nine major safety issues-maritime safety, import cargo inspection, labor strikes, and natural disasters emerged cyclically. Major port safety issues in Busan Port are primarily characterized by an unpredictable nature, falling under socio-environmental and natural phenomena types, indicating a significant impact of global uncertainty. Therefore, systematic policies need to be formulated based on identified port safety issues to enhance port safety in Busan Port. Additionally, there is a need to strengthen the resilience of port safety for unpredictable risk situations. In conclusion, advanced research activities are necessary to promote port safety enhancement in response to dynamically changing social conditions.

As the containership has been large-sized, it is important to analyze the social feasibility for the dredging the water-depth of Busan port. We tries to do an exploratory study to analyze the needs of the core port user group by using the survey methodology. We did the survey for the ocean carriers, terminal operating companies, ship pilots respectively. Collected data was analyzed by frequency and cross tabulation method. Result suggests that the Busan North Port should be dredged to the 16 meter depth and Busan New Port should be dredged to the 17 meter depth. And the priority of the depth dredging is ranked as Gamman pier, Sinsundae pier, New Port and Jasungdae pier.

The Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation between the Joseon Dynasty and Japan began signing procedures from February 1876. Thus, Busan port became an open port to foreign vessels. This has resulted in Busan port becoming the greatest port in Korea. Because of this, the Superintendent Office (Gamriseo, 監理署) was established at 1883 but was later abolished in 1906. In this thesis, the author explored the opening procedure of Busan Port as an open port, the structure of the positions in the Superintendent Office, and the establishment and abolition, types, and contents of records of Gamriseo that were created or received. Records of the Superintendent Office were classified into diplomatic records, judge records, police records, customs records, administrative records, and the daily records of the institution. Most of the original documents of the Superintendent Office were preserved at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies while some were published by the National Institute of Korean History and Asiatic Research Institute of Korea University.
This paper is designed to look for a specialized strategies by drawing the special features of Busan New Port from both a comparative analysis of major factors of harbor competitiveness and a SWOT analysis of Busan New Port and Yangshan Port, one of the biggest competitive ports in Northeast Asia, so that Busan New Port may preoccupy a status as the hub port of the area. The researcher would like to suggest the following measures to make Busan New Port serve as the central port of Northeast Asia on the basis of the findings; Korea should push ahead with creating a railroad transportation linking with Eurasia Contient, secure the amount of goods and resources with the help of the early development of the surrounding complex of the port, make a considerable progress in the level of port service, come up with a differentiation strategies for harbor marketing activities and improve its productivity.

This study developed a Recurrent Neural Network model implemented through Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) that generates long-term tidal level data at Busan Port using tide observation data. The tide levels in Busan Port were predicted by the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration (KHOA) using the tide data observed at Busan New Port and Tongyeong as model input data. The model was trained for one month in January 2019, and subsequently, the accuracy was calculated for one year from February 2019 to January 2020. The constructed model showed the highest performance with a correlation coefficient of 0.997 and a root mean squared error of 2.69 cm when the tide time series of Busan New Port and Tongyeong were inputted together. The study's finding reveal that long-term tidal level data prediction of an arbitrary port is possible using the deep learning recurrent neural network model.
