  • The zoeal stages of Pisidia serratifrons are described and illustrated for the first time and its morphological characteristics are compared with those of three known Pisidia species of the family Porcellanidae. The zoea of P. serratifrons differs from those of other Pisidia (P. brasiliensis, P. dispar, and P. dehaanii), by having 11 spinules on the exopod of the antenna. In order to facilitate the study of plankton-collected material, a provisional key is provided for identification of the Korean porcellanid zoeae.

  • The lanral characters of Petrolisthes japonicus (De Haan, 1849), Porcellanidae, were described and illustrated. The lanral development of P. juponicus includes the two zoeal and one megalopal stases. The first and second zoeal stases lasted about 4 and 10 days, respectively. It took about 14 days to attain megalopa from hatching-The larval characteristics of P. japonicus were compared with those of other knouts species of Petrolisthes. Consequently, the lanrae of P. japonicus are more closely related to P elongatus and P ornutus than other Petrolisthes species, but the present species can be distinguished from these Petrolisthes species by morphological characteristics.

  • The first zoeal stage of Enosteoides ornata (Stimpson, 1858) is described and illustrated in detail. Its morphological characteristics are compared with those of other known species of the family Porcellanidae. In the family Porcellanidae its diagnostic characteristics are the exopod of an antenna armed with a seta and five spinules and the coxa of the first maxilliped having two setae. The former characteristic can be seen in most of the genus Petrolisthes zoeas, while the latter usually in the genus Pachycheles zoea. The Enosteoides ornata seems to be p1aced intermediately between the genus Pachycheles and the genus Petrolisthes based on the zoeal morphology.

  • The first zoeal stage of Pachycheles hertwigi Balss is described and illustrated. Its morphological characteristics are compared with those of other known species of Pachycheles. The first zoeas of P. hertwigi and P. stevensii are very similar, but they can be distinguished from each other by the length of carapace spine and the size of antennal exopod spinules.

  • Two porcelain crab species, Aliaporcellana pygmaea (De Man, 1902) and Lissoporcellana nakasonei (Miyake, 1978), are reported here for the first time from Korean waters based on specimens collected from Jeju Island, Korea. The genus Aliaporcellana Nakasone and Miyake, 1969, and Lissoporcellana Haig, 1978 are also reported here for the first time in Korea. Aliaporcellana pygmaea has a wide distribution. The specimen reported here is the most northern record of this species. While, Lissoporcellana nakasonei, associated with anthozoans, was known for distributing range from New Caledonia to southern Japan. As a result, the distribution rage of L. nakasonei is changed to Korea. Now, 12 species of porcelain crabs have been reported in Korean waters.

  • The first zoea of Petrolisthes trilobatus Osawa, 1996, from a female collected in Japan is described and illustrated. Its morphological characteristics are compared with those of other known species of the genus Petrolisthes. The first zoea of P. trilobatus appears very similar to those of P. lamarckii, P. asiaticus and P. hastatus. However, it could be distinguished from the others in having a spine on the lower posterior margin of the carapace, three pairs of setae on the postero-dorsal surface of the telson and minute spinules on the dorsal margins of the abdominal somites 2-5. Based on zoeal morphology, it is suggested that the zoeas of Petrolisthes could be divided into two groups: the first group (P. coccineus, P. moluccensis, P. lamarckii, P. trilobatus, P. asiaticus, P. hastatus, P. pubescens, P. tomentosus, and P. carinipes) and the second one (P. ohshimai, P. armatus, P. boscii, P. tridentatus, P. tonsorius, and P. japonicus).
