Breeding efficiency was investigated to reveal crucial factors for constructing effective breeding system with subdivided populations under equal genetic level. Simulation study of selection experiment was performed for 20 generations with 20 replications each, comparing average breeding values and inbreeding coefficients between the two breeding systems; single population scheme and two population scheme, each of which had the same genetic parameters. Genetic correlations (-0.5 to 0.5) were assumed to be caused only by pleiotropic effect of a gene. Phenotypes of the two traits generated by polygenic effect with additive 36 loci and residuals distributed normally were selected by two traits selection index procedure. Comparing between the single population scheme and the two population scheme, the single population scheme showed higher genetic gain with lower inbreeding coefficient. This result was confirmed particularly for the situation of high selection intensity, high heritability and high degree of unevenness for economic weight. Genetic correlations in the single population scheme were significantly lower than the two population scheme when initial genetic correlation was negative. When terminal crossbreeding for the two population scheme is taken into account, superiority of the two population scheme was suggested. The terminal crossbreeding was effective under the situation of long term selection, existence of moderate inbreeding depression and use of less extreme economic weight.

The purposes of this study were to evaluate the population pharmacokinetics of levosulpiride and terbinafine according to several pharmacokinetic models and to investigate the influence of characteristics of subjects such as age, body weight, height and serum creatinine concentration on the pharmacokinetic parameters of levosulpiride and terbinafine, respectively. Purpose - Aging and fewer economically active people have challenged the assumption of continuous population increases. A new real estate valuation methodology reflecting changes in population structure is thus needed. Research design, data, and methodology - The relationship between demographic change and changes in real estate prices is analyzed using ordinary least squares (OLS) to estimate the parameters, and a population structure change (PSC)-Binomial Option Model is developed to assess the volatility of the estimated parameters. Results based on Seoul and Shanghai data are compared. Results - Results of the DCF method indicate that investing in Seoul is better than investing in Shanghai, but the binomial option indicates the opposite. The PSC-binomial option model, reflecting changes in population structure, yields higher values (24.6 million won in Seoul and 43.3 million won in Shanghai) than those given by the binomial option model. Conclusions - This study indicates that applying changes in population structure to existing research, such as in the binomial option model, represents a more accurate real estate valuation method. Results demonstrate that the new model is more accurate than existing models such as the DCF or binomial option.
Hemocytes in marine bivalves play important immunological roles in discrimination, opsonization and phagocytosis of foreign materials as a defense mechanism. In this study we report the flow cytometric implications to investigate the immune parameters such as the compositional and the functional characteristics of hemocytes isolated from the Manila clams, Ruditapes philippinarum. Heterogeneity of the hemocytic cell population was determined by the forward scatter (FSC) and side scatter (SSC) cytometric profile which showed three populations: granulocytes, hyalinocytes and small agranular cells. In addition, phagocytosis rate was measured after adding fluorescent-labeled particles. The data were initially analysed for two-parameters: FSC and SSC, then the fluorescent (FL 1) frequency distribution histogram of the hemocyte population was subsequently obtained.
In this paper we propose a model of HIv population through method of phases with non-Markovian evolution of immi-gration. The analysis leads to an explicit differnetial equations for the generating functions of the total population size. The detection process of antibodies (against the antigen of virus) is analysed and an explicit expression for the correlation functions are provided. A measure of bunching is also introduced for some particular choice of parameters.

This paper studies parameter estimation for a first-order hyperbolic integro-differential equation modelling one-sex population dynamics. A second-order finite difference scheme is used to estimate parameters such as the age-specific death-rate and the age-specific fertility from fully discrete observations on the population. The function space parameter estimation convergence of this scheme is proved. Also, numerical simulations are performed.
In sampling survey, prior-information about population has been generally ignored to estimate parameters. But if there is some believable prior-information about population, it is very useful to get more efficiency estimators by using the prior-information. This paper shows how to estimate the parameter, to evaluate the variance of the estimator, and to un-biasness of the estimator by using multiple stratification with prior-information about survey population. The proposed method is illustrated with a set of hypothetical data. The results show that the proposed estimator is very efficiency and strongly recommendable.
In many optimal methods for the structural design, the structural analysis is performed with the given design parameters. Then the design sensitivity is calculated based on its structural anaysis results. There-after, the design parameters are changed iteratively. But genetic algorithm is a optimal searching technique which is not depend on design sensitivity. This method uses for many design para- meter groups which are generated by a designer. The generated design parameter groups are become initial population, and then the fitness of the all design parameters are calculated. According to the fitness of each parameter, the design parameters are optimized through the calculation of reproduction process, degradation and interchange, and mutation. Those are the basic operation of the genetic algorithm. The changing process of population is called a generation. The basic calculation process of genetic algorithm is repeatly accepted to every generation. Then the fitness value of the element of a generation becomes maximum. Therefore, the design parameters converge to the optimal. In this study, the optimal design pro- cess of a machine tool structure for static loading is presented to determine the optimal base supporting points and structure thickness using a genetic algorithm.
Estimations on population ecological parameters of the small yellow croaker, Larimichthy polyactis in Korean waters, were calculated using catch data based on coastal and offshore drift gillnet fishery and biological data from 2010 to 2012. The population ecological parameters included survival rate, instantaneous coefficient of natural and fishing mortality and age/length at first capture. The survival rate (S) of the small yellow croaker was estimated to be 0.20 from catch curve method. The instantaneous coefficient of natural mortality (M) was estimated to be 0.46/year with Alverson and Carney method. The instantaneous coefficient of total mortality (Z) was 1.611/year, used to be transformed the survival rate and the instantaneous coefficient of fishing mortality (F) were 1.153/year. The length at first capture ($L_c$) was 19.1cm by Pauly method, and the age at first capture ($t_c$) was 1.303 years of the small yellow croaker by the coastal and offshore drift gillnet fishery.
By using temperatures as a key variable, a simulation model was constructed to predict the size and developmental speed for the German cockroach population. The following three research steps were conducted to implement the individual simulation technique to represent the basic life system of the cockroach. First, informations on developmental periods and survival rates in each life stage were obtained through rearing experiments at five different temperatures. Secondly, biological parameters needed for modeling were obtained based on these rearing results. The logistic equation was applied to calculating the developmental speed, while the averages of survival rates were utilized as parameters determining population size. And thirdly, a basic life model was constratued in a stimulative framework in FORTRAN for predicting the populating development on the individual basis. For this purpose the biological characteristics, such as life stage, age in days, developmental speed, fecundity, etc., were assigned as an inherent attribute of the transactiion so that they could accompany each individual automatically all through the simulation. This gave the model flexibility and applicability in representing the isnect life system. The save memory space in computer programing, two files were utilized in translocating the individual informations each other as time proceeded. The developed model could be effectively used as a strategic tool in interpreting and managing the cockroach population. It was also suggested in this study that the individual simulation could efficiently serve as a basis to formulate a fundamental framework on which the advanced and complex life process could be built.
