  • In this paper, poppet valve with cone type poppet and sharp edged seat was studied. In order to develope poppet valve which have a specification of 315(bar) and 3(lpm), effect of design parameter as valve seat diameter, poppet angle, spring stiffness and spring pre-load was evaluated. The validity of simulation was confirmed and basic data far poppet valve design was derived.

  • The hydraulic fuse, which responds to the suddenly increased flow on rupture of a line and shuts off the fluid flow, would prevent large spillage of liquid. The quick-acting hydraulic fuse, which is mainly composed of a poppet, a seat, and a spring, must be designed to minimize the leaked flow and to prevent high collision speed between the poppet and seat during fuse operation on a line rupture. The optimal design parameters of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse were searched using the genetic algorithm and the complex method that are kinds of constrained direct search methods. The dynamic behavior of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse was researched using computer simulations that applied the obtained optimal design parameters.

  • This paper presents a static and dynamic characteristics of the relief valve which is a kind of direct operated pressure control valve for hydrogen compressor. The valve is consisted of a main poppet, a spring, an adjuster and a valve body. The purpose of this study is development of the simulation model for relief valve by using commercial AMESlM$^{(R)}$ tool. Poppet with sharp edge seat type and ball poppet with sharp edge seat type compare for P-Q characteristic. The dynamic simulation results are presented the operating pressure characteristics of relief valve. High pressure power unit of which maximum pressure control range is 100MPa was manufactured, and the pressure control valve was experimented using the above-mentioned power unit. The new model of pressure control valve from this results was suggested. It was confirmed that the suggested valve has a good control performance from experimental setup.

  • In this Paper, a mathematical model describing the dynamics of pilot operated pressure control valve was derived. A attempt to analyze the Parameters(seat diameter, cone angle, spring stiffness, control volume) which relate to the performance of the object valve was carried out. Simulation using AMESim as a simulation tool was operated, and verified the validity of our simulation by means of comparison our simulation results with an experimental results of the pilot operated pressure control valve.

  • A main oxidizer shut-off valve (MOV) controls the supply of cryogenic liquid oxygen to the combustion chamber of liquid rocket engines by on/off operations. The main subjects to be introduced are not only the valve transient response during valve on/off procedures but also the characteristics of pneumatic and seat/poppet parts as core technologies in the development of the MOV, which is expected to be adopted for the Korea Space Launch Vehicle II. It is shown that the analytical prediction of the transient valve travel is in good agreement with experimental results. Friction and elastic forces on the valve moving part are quantitatively evaluated by structural analysis.

An experimental study on the steady flow around an intake valve exit (흡기 밸브 주위의 정상 상태 유동에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In order to investigate the characteristics of flow around the intake around the intake valve exit, discharge coefficient and the velocity near the valve exit in steady state were measured using X-type hot-wire. Valve and valve seat insert used in experiment were constructed as the same shape of production engine and the flow characteristics at various flow rates and valve lifts were investigated. From the results of discharge coefficient measurements, it is observed that there exists a similarity between the flow characteristics around the production engine valve and the typical poppet valve. Measurement of the velocity at the valve exit shows that the normalized radial velocity between the primary direction of flow and the valve angle is large, but the difference becomes smaller as the flow rate increases.

  • A quick-acting hydraulic fuse, which is mainly composed of a poppet, a seat, and a spring, must be designed to minimize the leaked oil volume during fuse operation on a line rupture. The optimal design parameters of a quick-acting hydraulic fuse were searched using the design of experiments method and the complex method. First, the $L_{50}(5^4)$ orthogonal array is used to find the robust minimum point among the 625 points of design variables. The search range can then be narrowed around the robust minimum point. Second, the $L_{25}(5^4)$ orthogonal array is used to obtain the variations of the design variables in the narrowed search range. The variations of design variables are used to set the structure of a polynomial equation representing the leakage oil volume of the quick-acting hydraulic fuse. The least squares method is then applied to obtain the coefficients of polynomial equation. Finally, the complex method is used to find the optimal design parameters where the objective function is described by the polynomial equation.

A Study on the Chattering under Cryogenic Flow Test of a Oxidizer Shutoff Valve (산화제 개폐밸브의 극저온 유동시험에서 채터링의 고찰)

  • The oxidizer shutoff valve of a gas generator controls the mass flow rate of the propellant of a rocket engine using pilot pressure and spring the force of the valve. The developing oxidizer shutoff valve can be shut off if the pilot pressure is removed from the actuator. Therefore, force balancing is necessary to analyze the characteristics of the forces with respect to the opening and closing of the valve in order to evaluate its performance. In light of this, the valve has been designed to adjust the control pressure required to open the poppet and to determine the working fluid pressure at which the valve starts to close. Under cryogenic flow test as a tests level of C.R.T(Control Random Test), the chattering phenomena occurred due to much leakage of a metal seat section. The pressure for chattering of the oxidizer valve is predicted at about 11 bar using force balancing analysis.
