  • In order to increase the solubility of metoclopramide, various ratio coprecipitates with polyvinylpyrrolidone (M.W. 40,000) were prepared. The experiments of the solubility, physicochemical characteristics were quantitatively developed. The solubility increased as the ratio of rnetoclopramide to polyvinylpyrrolidone in metoclopramide-polyvinylpyrrolindone coprecipitate increased. In powder state, the dissolution rate of metoclopramide-polyvinylpyrrolidone coprecipitate was greater than that of metoclopramide and metoclopramide-polyvinylpyrrolidone physical mixture. Dissolution characteristics of non-disintegrating disk with constant surfacearea was in accord with Noyes-Nernst equation. The intrinsic dissolution rate, G, at $37^{\circ}C$ was $3.98{\times}10^{-7}M/cm^2{\cdot}min$ for metoclopramide, $2.26{\times}10^{-6}\;M/cm^2{\cdot}min$ for 1 : 5 metoclopramide-polyvinylpyrrolidone coprecipitate, respectively. Accordingly, activation energy of metoclopramide was 15,061cal/M, 9,178cal/M for 1 : 5 metoclopramide-polyvinylpyrrolidone coprecipitate and the activation energy decreased as the coprecipitate was formed. X-ray diffraction study revealed the fact that metoclopramide was crystalline, in contrast, there was no crystallinity evident in the 1 : 5 metoclopramide-polyvinylpyrrolidone coprecipitate. There was no difference between physical mixture and coprecipitate in TLC, UV and NMR studies. From the comparision between physical mixture and coprecipitate in IR spectrum, the interaction such as association between metoclopramide and polyvinylpyrrolidone was considered. But the association was easily dissociated in methanol solution.

  • Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), which is glassy polymer to have amide functional group, was induced to fabricate the facilitated olefin transport membranes for olefin/paraffin separation. Separation performance for the mixed gas consisting of propylene and propane (50 : 50 vol%) was measured by gas chromatography and bubble flow meter. The properties of membranes were confirmed by scanning electron microscope and FT-IR. The results of long-term separation tests showed the selectivity of 15 and permeance of 1.3 GPU. The membranes was compared with poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) $(POZ)/AgBF_4/Al(NO_3)_3$ membranes and the characteristics were confirmed as polymer matrix for facilitated transport membranes.

  • Purpose: The physical and optical characteristics of hydrophilic contact lens polymerized with addition of glycerin and PVP(polyvinylpyrrolidone) in the basic hydrogel contact lens material were evaluated. Methods: This study used glycerin and PVP(polyvinylpyrrolidone) with the cross-linker EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and the initiator AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) for copolymerization. Results: Measurements of the physical characteristics of the copolymerized material including PVP(polyvinylpyrrolidone) showed the refractive index of 1.4382~1.4288, tensile strength of 0.3446~2542 kgf and water content and contact angle of sample showed the increase of 13.49% and decrease of 21.44% independently. And also, the physical characteristics of the copolymerized material including glycerin showed the refractive index of 1.4330~1.4328, tensile strength of 0.2974~0.2854 kgf, water content 35.58~36.53% and contact angle of sample showed the decrease of 37.64%. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, the produced copolymers is suitable for conventional lens with high wettability. Also, glycerin minimized the changes of water content and refractive index at the same time, increased the wettability of the hydrogel lens materials.

  • The shelf life of 1,2-indandione/zinc (1,2-IND/Zn) solution and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solution, which are known as reagents for developing latent fingermarks deposited on the surface of thermal paper, was studied. The standard latent fingermarks used for comparisons were artificial latent fingermarks printed on thermally sensitive and non-sensitive surfaces with the same intensity. Upon treatment of standard latent fingermarks with the pre-mixed 1,2-IND/Zn and PVP solutions, the fingermarks could be successfully developed until 3 days after the preparation of the mixture. However, from the third day after mixing the reagents, blackening was observed on the surface of the thermal paper, indicating deterioration of the reagent performance. The 1,2-IND/Zn and PVP solutions separately stored without mixing in advance were mixed immediately before use, and the development efficiency of the latent fingermarks deposited on the surface of thermal paper was observed. The performance of the PVP solution decreased after 20 days from the preparation of the reagent. It was also found that the shelf life of 1,2-IND/Zn and PVP mixture was determined by the PVP solution. The effect of oxygen and moisture on the degradation of PVP was investigated. It was found that the performance of the PVP solution deteriorated because of the influence of moisture, though it was not affected by oxygen.

  • Effects of plant growth regulators and anti-oxidants for rapid multiplication of Cymbidium kanran were investigated. The best gelling agent was 2.5 g/1 gelrite which needed less quantity (about 28%) and half price than 9 g/1 chemi-cal agar. Undefined edible agar was only a little bit worse than chemical agar in growth, but the price was half as much as the latter. The higher concentration of BA and NAA, the deeper browning of medium that prevented from performing its functions of plant growth regulators. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (M.W. 40,000) was the most effective anti-oxidant other than ascorbic acid, aspartic acid, and rutin in protecting the browning of medium, enhancing the effect of plant growth regulators, and thus prolonging the subculture cycle. Vigorous seedlings were obtained by 0.1∼1.0 mg/1 BA,0.1 mg/1 NAA and 1 g/1 polyvinylpyrrolidone treatments. Therefore, the best result for growth and econo-mic aspects in rhizome culture of Cymbidium kanran were obtained by using MS basal medium with 2.5 g/1 gelrite, 1 g/1 polyvinylpyrrolidone, 0.1∼1.0 mg/1 BA and 0.1 mg/1 NAA.

  • A mixture of polyvinylpyrrolidone and 1,2-indanedione (PVP-IND) is known to be the best reagent for developing latent fingerprints deposited on the surface of a thermal paper. However, no study has evaluated whether PVP-IND could enhance fingerprints in blood deposited on the surface of thermal paper. Therefore, in this study, the ability of PVP-IND to enhance the fingerprints in blood was investigated. Furthermore, aqueous amido black solution, which is known to be the best reagent for enhancing fingerprints in blood deposited on the surface of thermal paper, was used for comparison with PVP-IND. Therefore, while enhancing the fingerprints in diluted blood, PVP-IND enhanced the quality of fingerprints compared to aqueous amido black solution. The ridge diffused when the undiluted fingerprints in blood were enhanced with PVP-IND because PVP reacted with amino acids in blood; however, amido black solution yielded better results. When treated with PVP-IND, it is presumed that the ridge diffused due to the reaction of PVP and amino acids contained in the blood.

  • This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation of the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) influence on the steel reinforcement corrosion and compressive strength of concretes in sulphate medium. The effect of admixture of PVP in concrete on the corrosion resistance of steel reinforced concrete was assessed by measuring electrochemical test during 60 days immersion in two different external solutions. AC impedance spectrum indicated that the resistance of PVP mixed electrodes were higher than those without PVP. The compressive strength of concrete specimens containing PVP was measured and an increase of 19%~24% was observed.
