  • In order to analyze the sheet drawability, the measurement of the plastic strain ratio was carried out for the 5182 aluminum alloy sheets in which were cold rolled without lubrication and subsequent recrystallization annealing. The average plastic strain ratio of the 5182 aluminum sheets was 1.50. It was considered that the higher plastic strain ratio was resulted from the ND//<111> component evolved during rolling and maintained during annealing. The AA5182/polypropylene/AA5182 (AA/PP/AA) sandwich sheets of the 5182 aluminum alloy skin sheet and the polypropylene core sheet with high formability have been developed for application for automotive body panels in future light weight vehicles with significant weight reduction. The AA/PP/AA sandwich sheets were fabricated by the adhesion of the core sheet and the upper and lower skin sheets. The AA/PP/AA sandwich sheet had high plastic strain ratio (1.58), however, the planar anisotropy of the sandwich sheet was little changed after fabrication. The optimum combination of directionality of the upper and lower skin sheets having high plastic strain ratio and low planar anisotropy was calculated theoretically and an advanced process for producing the sandwich sheets with high plastic strain ratio was proposed. The developed sandwich sheets have a high average plastic strain ratio of 1.55 and a low planar anisotropy of 0.17, which was improved more by 3.2 times than that of 5182 aluminum single sheet.

  • The effects of nano size kenaf cellulose fiber on mechanical property of polypropylene (PP) composite were investigated. The addition of nano-kenaf in place of natural kenaf showed higher tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength, and heat deflection temperature compared to the natural kenaf filled PP composite, while it shows lower melt flow index, elongation%, and flexural modulus. These seemed to be due to the increased surface area of nano-kenaf fiber contacting PP matrix and reduced impurities such as volatile extractives on the fiber surface.

  • In this study, the effects of surface treatment of bamboo fiber on the physical properties of polypropylene(PP)/glass fiber(GF)/Bamboo fiber(BF) composite for engine cover were investigated. PP, GF and BF were fixed at 40%, 40% and 20% and the surface of bamboo fibers were treated to 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% as an acid and alkali solution. PP/GF/BR composites using surface treated bamboo fibers were prepared and their tensile strength, bursting strength and impact strength were measured by universal testing machine(UTM). The composites with alkali treated bamboo fiber showed better mechanical properties than the acid treated composites. It was checked that the optimum alkali content was at 1.0% from the results of mechanical properties. The effect of surface treatment on the mechanical properties was confirmed by SEM images of fractured surface.

  • Composite materials, known for their excellent mechanical properties and lightweight characteristics, are applied in various engineering fields. Recently, efforts have been made to develop an automotive battery protection panel using a plain-woven composite composed of glass fiber and polypropylene to reduce the weight of automobiles. However, excessive warpage occurs during the GF/PP compression molding process, which makes car assembly challenging. This study aims to develop a model that predicts the warpage during the compression molding process. Obtaining out-of-plane properties such as elastic or shear modulus, essential for predicting warpages, is tricky. Existing mechanical methods also have limitations in calculating these properties for woven composite materials. To address this issue, finite element analysis is conducted using representative volume elements (RVE) for woven composite materials. A warpage prediction model is developed based on the estimated physical properties of GF/PP composite materials obtained through representative volume elements. This model is expected to be used for reducing warpages in the compression molding process.

  • In order to impart dyeability on to Polypropylene fiber, PP/EVA blend in the form of fibers and film were preparared using melt blending process. Ethylene vinylacetate containing 28wt% of vinylacetate(EVA(28)) was used as a copolymer. In the study of mechanical properties, tenacity and initial modulus decreased with Increasing EVA concentrations, whilst extension at break increased with increasing EVA contents. Their results in the dyeing behavior show that dye adsorption increased with increased EVA contents iota both blend fibers and films. The extent of dye uptake of red dye to modified polypropylene fibers was greater than that of Blue and Yellow counterparts due to the difference behavior of dye particles in dyeing bath.

MmSH(Momentary Mold Surface Heating)조건인 경우는 수축율과 전사성 모두다 양호한 결과를 보여주었다.

  • The blends of polypropylene (PP) with glass filled thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer (LCP-g) have been prepared by melt mixing techniques at different blend ratios. The thermal, dynamic mechanical, crystalline and morphological characteristics of these blends were investigated. Higher percent crystallinity was observed for 10% level of LCP-g in the blend in comparison to that of other blend ratios. The thermal stability increased with LCP-g concentration in the blend with PP. The variation of storage modulus, stiffness and loss modulus as a function of blend ratios suggested the phase inversion at the 50% level of LCP-g in the blend. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photographs showed the creation of voids and destruction of the fiber structures during the dynamic mechanical measurements. Processing behavior of the blends depended on the fiber forming characteristics of LCP-g, which again varied with the molding temperatures.

  • Natural fiber-filled polymer composites have attracted great interest due to increasing environmental concerns and their low costs. In this study, the properties of rice husk flour-filled polypropylene (PP) were analysed in view of the large quantities of this agricultural product available as residue in Brazil. The rice husk flour (RHF) was characterized by SEM and particle size distribution. The properties of the composites were studied by MFI, DMA, DSC and TGA analyses. A commercial PP modified with maleic anhydride (MAPP) was used as coupling agent. It was verified that RHF decreased the MFI of the composites and that the coupling agent decreased it even more. The efficiency of MAPP was confirmed by the high storage modulus and high loss factor of the coupled composites.

  • A new monoazo violet dye optimized for polyolefin fibers such as polypropylene and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fibers was synthesized and its dyeability was investigated. Two hexyl groups were introduced to coupler, 2,5-dimethoxyaniline, in order to increase hydrophobicity of the dye. The maximum absorption wavelength was appeared at 580nm, which meant that the dye showed violet color. From the dyeing results at various conditions, the optimum dyeing was determined as $130^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour with 5% owf of dyes. The good fastness ratings to washing, rubbing were obtained showing at least 4 for both fibers. Light fastness was acceptable for polypropylene fibers giving ratings 3~4. However, relatively poor light fastness was obtained in case of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fibers showing ratings 2.
