  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of tertiary amine photo-accelerator on the dental properties of visible light-activated, polymeric, dental restorative composites (PDRC) through the measurement of mechanical and esthetic properties. The surface of barium silicate was hydrophobically treated to improve the interfacial behavior with the acrylic resin matrix. Camphorquinone was adopted as a photo-initiator with 0.5 wt% based on the resin matrix. It was discovered that the dental properties of PDRC were primarily dependent on the chemical structure rather than the added content of photo-accelerator.

  • In aqueous slurry processing of silicon nitride, the interaction of dispersant and binder used as polymeric processing additives on the silicon nitride particle surface was studied to identify the effect of these processing polymeric additives on the ceramic powder processing. The adsoprtion isotherm study of anionic organic molecule as dispersant and nonionic organic molecules as binder of silicon nitricde was studied to investigate the effect of these processing organic additives on the physicochemical properties of silicon nitride particles. As anionic molecule adsorbed onto silicon nitrice surface, the IEP of silicon nitride shifted toward acidic pH and changed the stability of silicon nitride particle. However, the adsorption of binder as nonionic organic molecule onto silicon nitride surface did not changed the IEP but caused the decrease of electrostatic potentials of silicon nitride. These distinctive adsorption behaviors of organic additives on silicon nitride particles can be closely correlated to the stability of silicon nitride particles suspended in aqueous media.

  • Graphene, two dimensional single layer of carbon atoms, has tremendous attention due to its superior property such as fast electron mobility, high thermal conductivity and optical transparency, and also found many applications such as field-effect transistors (FET), energy storage and conversion, optoelectronic device, electromechanical resonators and chemical sensors. Several techniques have been developed to form the graphene. Especially chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a promising process for the large area graphene. For the electrically isolated devices, the graphene should be transfer to insulated substrate from Cu or Ni. However, transferred graphene has serious drawback due to remaining polymeric residue during transfer process which induces the poor device characteristics by impurity scattering and it interrupts the surface functionalization for the sensor application. In this study, we demonstrate the characteristics of solution-gated FET depending on the removal of polymeric residues. The solution-gated FET is operated by the modulation of the channel conductance by applying a gate potential from a reference electrode via the electrolyte, and it can be used as a chemical sensor. The removal process was achieved by several solvents during the transfer of CVD graphene from a copper foil to a substrate and additional annealing process with H2/Ar environments was carried out. We compare the properties of graphene by Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy(AFM), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. Effects of residual polymeric materials on the device performance of graphene FET will be discussed in detail.

  • The implementation of gelled propellants systems offers high performance, energy management of liquid propulsion, storability, and high density impulse of solid propulsion. The present study focused on the macroscopic spray characteristics of liquid sheets formed by triplet impinging jets of non-Newtonian liquids which are mixed by Carbopol 941 0.5%wt. The results are compared to experiments conducted on spray images which formed by triplet impinging jets concerning with airassist effect at center orifice. When gel propellants are injected by doublet impinging jets at low pressure and high pressure, closed rim pattern shape appeared by polymeric effect from molecular force and showed inactive atomization characteristics, because of extensional viscosity related by restriction of atomization process and breakup time delay of turbulence transition. As increasing mass flow rate of the air(increasing GAR), spray breakup level is also increased.

  • Copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) Field-effect transistors (FETs) was successfully fabricated on plastic substrates. Orientation of CuPc crystallites on substrate could be obtained via rubbing process. It was revealed that CuPc crystallites were perpendicularly aligned on PES substrates with the rubbing direction. The performance of FETs was affected by orientation of CuPc on rubbed substrates.

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membranes crosslinked with poly(acrylic acid-co-maleic anhydride) (PAM) as a polymeric crosslinking agent were prepared to investigate the pervaporation performance for the dehydration separation of aqueous ethanol solution. The characteristics of the resulting membranes crosslinked(x) were analysed by FT-IR and water swelling test. The water swelling decreased with increasing crosslinking agent content. The crosslinked PVA membranes with PAM showed lower water swelling than those of PVA membrane crosslinked with glutaraldehyde and modified PVA membrane. The swelling of water molecules in the crosslinked PVA membranes is more restricted by both chemical crosslinking between PVA and polymeric crosslinking agent chains and physical crosslinking by the entanglement between the PVA and polymeric crosslinking agent chains. For the pervaporation of aqueous ethanol solution through the crosslinked membrane, as the contents of crosslinking agent increased, the separation factor increased while the permeation flux decreased. The separation factor slightly decreased and permeation flux increased with increasing feed water content. As a result it could be considered that PVA-PAM membranes suppressed the plasticization effect even in the range of high water concentration in fled.

  • Naphthalene-degrading bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa CZ6 isolated from contaminated soil can adhere to crystal naphthalene and produce extracellular polymeric substance. LB, YM and MSM medium were used as culture mediums to investigate the formation of biofilm. Biofilm was developed the most in LB medium by Pseudomonas aeruginosa CZ6. In the culture, strain CZ6 growth was rarely affected by naphthalene concentration. Optimal culture condition was $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 7 at 0.10% substrate and 150 rpm shaking. The effect of culture medium on naphthalene degradation in the two soil slurry system was evaluated. The initial degradation rate of naphthalene was highest in the MSM medium of soil slurry. However, the sorbed naphthalene was rapidly degraded at the LB medium when naphthalene availability in liquid was limited. The results of this study suggest that biofilm formation and extracellular polymeric substance production increased bioavailability of soil sorbed naphthalene.

  • Polymeric micellar enhanced ultrafiltration method using a new type of polyrmer, $\alpha$-allyl-$\omega$-methoxy polyoxyethlene and maleic anhydride copolymer (AKM-0531, Mw 15, 000), has been proposed to separate 1-naphthylamine as a weak cationic toxic organic solubilizate. Enhancement effect of polymeric micelle was identified by the ultrafiltration runs using polyacryronitrile(PAN) holow fiber membrane with molecular weight cut off 6, 000. The linear dependance of flux on the pressure difference is shown to be valid up to 0.6kg/${cm}^2$ and the rate of flux increase in response to change in the pressure is gradually reduced under the pressure difference. Rejection of 0.96 was observed for f mM of 1-naphthylamine with 2 wt.% polymer solution at the conditions of 0.4kg/${cm}^2$, natural pH. and $25^{\circ}C$ Solubilization of 1-naphthylamine into the polymeric micelle enhanced the separation efficiency.

  • The objective of the present paper is to investigate the bending behavior with stretching effect of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams. The beams resting on the Pasternak elastic foundation, including a shear layer and Winkler spring, are considered. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are aligned and distributed in polymeric matrix with different patterns of reinforcement. The material properties of the CNTRC beams are estimated by using the rule of mixture. The significant feature of this model is that, in addition to including the shear deformation effect and stretching effect it deals with only 4 unknowns without including a shear correction factor. The single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are aligned and distributed in polymeric matrix with different patterns of reinforcement. The material properties of the CNTRC beams are assessed by employing the rule of mixture. The equilibrium equations have been obtained using the principle of virtual displacements. The mathematical models provided in this paper are numerically validated by comparison with some available results. New results of bending analyses of CNTRC beams based on the present theory with stretching effect is presented and discussed in details. the effects of different parameters of the beam on the bending responses of CNTRC beam are discussed.
