The effects of polymer-cement ratio, antifoamer content and shrinkage-reducing agent content on the air content, setting time, drying shrinkage and strength of high-fluidity polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder are examined. As a result, the air content of the polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tends to decrease nth increasing polymer-cement ratio and antifoamer content. Regardless of the antifoamer content, the setting time of the polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tends to delayed with increasing polymer-cement ratio. Irrespective of the antifoamer content, the drying shrinkage of the polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tend to decrease with increasing polymer-cement ratio and shrinkage-reducing agent content. Regardless of the antifoamer content, the flexural and tensile strengths of the polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tends to increase with increasing polymer-cement ratio, and tend to decrease with increasing shrinkage-reducing agent content. However, the compressive strength of the polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder decreases with increasing polymer-cement ratio and shrinkage-reducing agent content.
Test specimens of polymer-cement concrete composites were prepared using styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) latex, ethylenevinyl acetate(EVA) and polyacrylic ester(PAE) emulsions as polymer dispersions in cement modified system at constant slump($10{\pm}0.5cm$), then compressive and flexural strengths water absorption, pore size distribution, and microstructures were investigated. Compressive and flexural strengths of these composites were remarkably improved with an increase of polymer-cement ratio. These composites had a desirable pore size distribution against frost damage due to a small capillary pore volume. Continuous polymer film was able to form in higher than 15% of polymer cement ratio.
Dental polymer-based luting materials are classified into esthetic resin cement, adhesive resin cement and self-adhesive resin cement. Due to the different component of each type of resin cement, the preconditioning method of tooth surface and the steps are different from each type of resin cement. The pre-treatment of adherend (ceramic, resin and metal) surface also varies with the type of resin cement and the manufacturer. In this study, the characteristics of each type of resin cement, mechanical properties, indication and advantages were investigated. Through these, clinical tips on using resin cements were suggested.
Polymer-modified mortars have been largely used as paving materials, flooring, waterproofing material, adhesives, anticorrosive linings, deck coverings, and other various materials. The various types and properties of the mixed polymer largely affect the characteristics of polymer-modified mortar that has been mixed with polymer latexes. Consequently, its application purposes are varied according to these properties. This paper investigates the typical properties of polymer-modified mortars that contain styrene and butyl acrylate latexes and styrene butadiene rubber. They are then tested to obtain air contents, water-cement ratios, flexural and compressive strengths, water absorption, and chloride-ion penetration. From the test results, the superior flexural strength of polymer-modified mortars is obtained at a S/BA-2 and a polymer-cement ratio of 20%. And, the water absorption and chloride ion penetration depth are greatly affected by the polymer-cement ratio rather than the types of polymer. In the polymer-modified mortar and concrete structures, aggregates are bound by such a co-matrix phase, resulting in the superior properties of polymer-modified mortar and concrete compared to conventional mortar and concrete.

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of polymer glass transition temperature on mechanical properties of polymer latex-modified mortars in comparison with ordinary cement mortar. The Polymer latex-modified mortars are prepared with 5, 10, 15 and 20% of polymer cement ratio respectively, and properties of modified mortars such as air content, compressive, flexural and tensile strengths are tested. The test results indicate that the types of polymer dispersion and the polymer-cement ratio are very important factors to characterize the properties of polymer-modified mortars, and also the glass transition temperature of polymer dispersions has an important effect on the performance of polymer-modified mortars. The modifying effects of two kinds of polymer dispersion, St/BA-1 and SBR, are evaluated.

Epoxy-coated re-bar was partly used to the structures and put to practical use, but were not economical and appeared to have defects such as the diminishing of long term bond strength between concrete. The study of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar was started in order to complement the defect of epoxy coated re-bar, and ever since the basic properties appeared to be excellent. But, study of bond properties embedded in concrete specimens was insufficient until now. This study attempts to examine the possibility of improving the bond strength of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar between concrete specimens in accordance with ACI Code and KS Code through pull-out test of 150mm$\times$150mm$\times$150mm substrates with polymer cement slurry coated re-bar having polymer cement ratios of 50%, 75% and 100%, coating thickness 250${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 450 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and with curing ages of 3, 7 and 28 days. High strength concrete was designed having a compressive strength of 500kgf/cm2 as specified. Practical bond length ranges of 55 and 85mm were applied to each of specimen. The bond strength of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar using St/BA-1 and St/BA-2 was compared to that of plain re-bar. The results of this study showed that the bond strength of 55mm bond length was much higher than that of 85mm bond length.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion properties of polymer cement composites for crack repair of an RC structure. Polymer cement composites are manufactured from cement, three types of polymers and silica fume, and the mixture is designed by adjusting the water cement ratio and AE reducing agent so that the viscosity target of the polymer cement composites is 700mPa·s or less. According to the test results, the Type-A adhesion in tension of the polymer cement composite exceeded the adhesion standard of 1.0MPa of the polymer finishing material, and furthermore, depending on the type of polymer, the adhesion in tension was highest for SAE, followed in descending order by EVA, and SBR. In addition, the adhesion in tension of Type-B is up to 1/4.5 lower than that of Type-A, but the incorporation of silica fume shows a significant improvement in terms of adhesion in tension. Based on this study, the basic mixing design of the polymer cement composites required for viscosity and adhesive performance required for crack repair of the RC structure was completed. It could be proposed as an optimal mixing design under conditions for intermixing polymer type EVA, SAE, and P/C 80%-100%.

The purpose of this study is to examine the bond properties of polymer cement mortar. Generally, cement mortar using polymer has been used that recovering the deteriorative concrete structure performance. In this case, it is very important problem to become a monolithic construction by bonding property. In this study, it is evaluated with other properties that adhesion strength between polymer cement mortar and concrete substrate. And polymer cement mortar was compared with plain cement mortar by scanning electron microscope.
Formaldehyde has widely been used for the cross-linking of polyvinyl alcohol polyvinyl alcohol polymer. The effects of formaldehyde on the water resistance of MDF cement composites were investigated as a function of types of catalyst, base or acid, and the amount of formaldehyde. The acetalization, reaction of OH group of PVA with aldehyde, was ended incompletely under base atmosphere. However, by addition of citric acid, the cross-linking of PVA polymer could be acheved through acetalization of PVA and formaldehyde. The effects of these different patterne according to the types of catalyst on the water resistance of MDF cement were studied by the preparation of PVA films and MDF composites. Thanks to the cross-linking reaction of PVA polymer chains by formaldehyde, the modified PVA films and MDF composites showed a good water-resistant propety. The modified MDF cement composite to which 3 wt% formaldehyde and 1 wt% cirtic acid were added showed 80% of initial flexural strength and good interfacial state between cement grain and polymer matrix. However, 4 wt% formaldehyde deteriorted the processing conditions, microstructures and eventually the flexural strength, causing sharp increase in the viscosity of sample dough during the mixing process. To study the relatins of flexural strength and interface of cement grain and polymer matrix, SEM and MIP measurement were performed.
