  • Organic electroluminescence devices(ELD) were fabricated using by molecularly doped method with N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine(TPD) as a hole transport agent, squarylium dye as an emitting agent, and side chain liquid crystalline polymer(MCH) as matrix for TPD. An indium-tin-oxide(ITO) coated glass and an Mg electrode were used as the hole and the electron injecting electrode, respectively. The highest stability of ELD was obtained by spin coating method using dichloroethane as a solvent at a polymer/TPD concentration of 0.005 wt%. For the EL cell with ITO/polymer-TPD/SQ dye/Mg structure, we achieved light red luminescence at a current of 102 mA/$cm^2$ with an applied voltage of 23 V.

  • Electroluminescence (EL) comes from the light emission obtained by the electrical excitation energy passing through a phosphor layer undo. an applied high electrical field $(10^6 V/cm)$. The preparation of white and blue phosphors and characterizations of light emitting alternating current powder electroluminescent devices (ACPELDs) were investigated. In this work, we fabricated two kinds of ELDs, that is, yellow electroluminescent device (B-ELD), blue electroluminescent device (B-ELD). The basic st.uctures of Y-ELD and B-ELD are ITO (Indium Tin Oxide)/phosphor layer/Insulator layer/Carbon electrode and ITO/Phosphor layer/Insulating layer/carbon electrode, respectively. Another structures of ITO/Phosphor and Insulator mixture layer/Backelectrode are introduced. EL spectra and luminance of two types of ELDs were measured by changing voltage at fixed frequency 0.4kHz, 1.5kHz. Blue and yellow phosphors prepared in this work show $50cd/m^2\;and\;30cd/m^2$ of luminance at 400Hz, 150V.

  • Organic electroluminescence devices (ELD) with hetero-junction structure were fabricated utilizing poly(p-phenylne vinylene) (PPV) as emitting layer and electron transport layer (ETL). 2-(4-biphenyl)-5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD) was used as an electron transport agent. Copolymers with stilbene type comonomers, such as poly(styrene-co-PVTS), poly(styrene-co-MeO-PVTS) and poly(styrene-co-MeO-ST) were synthesized to be used as a matrix polymer to disperse electron transport agent (PBD). Among the hetero-junction EL devices fabricated with the above materials, the device with poly(styrene-co-PVTS) as matrix polymer for ETL gave the highest luminance ($120.7cd/m^2$, 13 V). EL devices made with poly(styrene-co-MeO-PVTS) or poly(styrene-co-MeO-ST) matrix exhibited lower luminance than the one with polystyrene matrix and the single layer EL (ITO/PPV/Mg) device.

  • Four types of conjugated polymers, poly(MEHPV-PV), poly(MEHPV-BPV), poly(MEHPV-AV) and poly(PZV-AV) were synthesized by Homer-Emmons reaction using potassium tert-butoxide. The Homer-Emmons reaction gave electroluminescent(EL) copolymers in good yield. Of the EL copolymers synthesized, poly(PZV-AV) containing phenothiazinylene vinylene and anthrylene vinylene as repeat unit exhibited red color in the light emitting diode(LED) which was very close to the NTSC standard red. Besides, double layer LED made with $Alq_3$ electron transport layer exhibited both enhanced emission intensity and efficiency compared to the single layer LED.
