Preparation of Al@Fe2O3 Core-Shell Composites Using Amphiphilic Graft Copolymer Template

  • A graft copolymer of poly(vinyl chloride)-g-poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) (PVC-g-POEM) was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and used as a structure-directing agent to prepare $Al@Fe_2O_3$ core-shell nanocomposites through a sol-gel process. The amphiphilic property of PVC-g-POEM allows for good dispersion of Al particles and leads to specific interaction with iron ethoxide, a precursor of $Fe_2O_3$. Secondary bonding interaction in the sol-gel composites was characterized by Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The well-organized morphology of $Al@Fe_2O_3$ core-shell nanocomposites was observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to analyze the elemental composition and crystallization structure of the composites.

Pore Size Control of a Highly Transparent Interfacial Layer via a Polymer-assisted Approach for Dye-sensitized Solar Cells

  • A highly transparent interfacial layer (HTIL) to enhance the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was prepared via a polymer-assisted (PA) approach. Poly(vinyl chloride)-graft-poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) (PVC-g-POEM) was synthesized via atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and was used as a sacrificial template. The PVC-g-POEM graft copolymer induced partial coordination of a hydrophilic titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) sol-gel solution with the POEM domain, resulting in microphase separation, and in turn, the generation of mesopores upon calcination. These phenomena were confirmed using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-visible light transmittance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The DSSCs incorporating HTIL60/20 (consisting of a top layer with a pore size of 60 nm and a bottom layer with a pore size of 20 nm) exhibited the best overall conversion efficiency (6.36%) among the tested samples, which was 25.9% higher than that of a conventional blocking layer (BL). DSSC was further characterized using the Nyquist plot and incident-photon to electron conversion efficiency (IPCE) spectra.

  • 열가소성 탄성중합체 바인더를 사용한 열가소성 추진제는 열경화성 추진제와 비교하여 중간 정도의 성능과 기계적 특성을 나타내지만 원재료 비용이 저렴하고, 제조 공정이 단순하며, 취급 공정이 안정적인 장점으로 인해 다양한 분야에서 폭 넓게 사용될 것이라 예측된다. 다양한 분야에서 열가소성 고체 추진제의 활용을 위해 주 원재료인 산화제, 금속연료 및 첨가제의 함량에 따른 특성 변화를 연구하여 향후 예상되는 열가소성 추진제의 수요에 대응하고자 한다.

  • 폴리아미드 수지가 첨가된 PVC졸 실란트의 기계적, 전기적, 열적특성에 대해 연구하였다. PVC졸은 디옥틸프탈레이트로 PVC를 가소화시켜 제조된 것이다. 본 연구에서는 PVC졸 실란트에 요구되는 접착성 개선제에 관한 연구의 일환으로 polyamide를 첨가하였을 때 PVC졸 실란트의 제반물성에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 폴리아미드 변성 PVC졸의 인장강도는 높은 Amino 값을 갖는 폴리아미드 B의 경우가 낮은 Amino 값을 갖는 폴리아미드 A의 경우 보다 더 높게 나타났다. 인장강도는 경화온도나 경화시간이 증가할수록 증가되었다. 또한 인장강도는 폴리아미드의 종류와 경화 시간에 관계없이 충진제인 $CaCO_3$ 함량이 증가될수록 감소되었다. 유전상수는 폴리아미드의 종류에 관계없이 폴리아미드의 함량에 따라 거의 일정하게 나타난 반면, tan ${\delta}$는 폴리아미드의 함량에 따라 약간 증가되었다. 그리고 열적안정성은 Amino 값이 높은 폴리아미드 수지의 경우가 Amino 값이 낮은 폴리아미드 수지의 경우보다 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

Norbornene Dialkyl Ester가 첨가된 PVC의 물성 연구 (Study on Physical Properties of PVC Involving Norbornene Dialkyl Ester)

  • 본 연구에서는 norbornene dialkyl ester 8종을 PVC에 적용하여 물리적 물성의 변화를 관찰하였다. PVC 시편은 PVC와 norbornene dialkyl ester, 안정제 등을 배합하여 제작하였고, 경도, 인장강도, 신율, 인열강도, 투과도, 투명도, 황변지수를 측정하여 DOP를 적용한 경우와 비교하였다. 경도는 dicyclohexyl-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylate (DCHN)를 제외한 화합물 7종이 DOP와 동등 이상의 값을 나타내었다. DCHN을 적용한 경우 경도가 매우 높아 인장 특성 및 인열강도를 분석하지 못하였다. 인장 특성은 diisononyl-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylate (DINN)을 제외한 6종의 화합물이 인장강도와 신율이 모두 개선되는 결과를 나타내었다. 인열강도와 투과도는 측정된 모든 화합물이 DOP를 적용한 경우와 동등 이상의 물성을 보였으며, 투명도는 DDN을 제외한 다른 norbornene 유도체들은 양호한 상태를 나타내었다. 황변지수에서는 DPN과 DON이 DOP와 유사한 결과를 나타내었다.

Sol-Gel Encapsulation as Matrix for Potentiometric Nitrite-Selective Membranes Doped with Chloro (5, 10, 15, 20-Tetraphenylporphyrinato) Cobalt (III)

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid sol-gel matrices were used as hosts for chloro (5, 10, 15, 20-tetraphenylporphyrinato) cobalt (III) (Co[TPP]Cl), a known ionophore for nitrite. The sol-gel precursor was prepared by the reaction of (3-isocyanopropyl) triethoxysilane with 1,4-butanediol. An appropriate amount of the anion-exchanger, tridodecylmethylammonium chloride (TDMAC) and the plasticizer, tributylphosphate (DBP) were used as membrane additives. On mixing with an acidic catalyst, the sol-state precursors slowly gelled, yielding a membrane in which the active components, Co[TPP]Cl and TDMAC, were encapsulated. The performances of the sol-gel membrane-based electrodes were compared to those of Co[TPP]Cl-based poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane electrodes. Membranes with a molar ratio of Co[TPP]Cl: TDMAC (1 : 0.1) showed reasonable response slopes toward nitrite. The response slopes were typically 53 mV/decade between $10^{-5.4}$ and $10^{-1.0}\;M$. Selectivities toward nitrite over hydrophilic and small anions such as chloride were somewhat inferior to those observed with PVC-based membranes, but selectivities over lipophilic anions were quite similar. Reduced asymmetry potentials due to protein adsorption were found to occur with the sol-gel matrix relative to PVC-based films when the sensors were employed as a detector in flow-through configuration.

Salphen H2 as a Neutral Carrier for the Uranyl Ion-Selective PVC Membrane Sensor

  • The complexation of N,N'-4,5-(ethylenedioxy)benzenebis(salicylideneimine), (salphen$H_2$) with uranyl ion was studied in acetonitrile solution spectrophtometrically, and the formation constant of the resulting 1 : 1 complex was evaluated. The salphen$H_2$ ligand was used as an ionophore in plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) matrix membrane sensor for uranyl ion. The prepared sensors exhibited a near Nernstian response, 28.0-30.9 mV/decade for uranyl ion over the concentration range $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-2}$ to $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$M with a limit of detection of $3.2\;{\times}\;10^{-7}$ M. The proposed electrode could be used at a working pH range of 1.5 - 4.0.

PVC 및 PC 혼합액을 코팅한 QCM 가스센서의 센싱 및 열화 특성 (Sensing and Degradation Characteristics in the QCM Gas Sensor Coated with the PVC and PC)

  • In the recognition of the gases using the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) coated with the film materials, it is important to obtain the recognition ability of gases, and the stability of film coated above the QCM. Especially, the thickness of film coated above the QCM is decreased according with the using circumstance and time of QCM gas sensor. Therefore, the sensing chararcteristics of film is changed with these. In this paper, we coated the lipid PC (Phosphatidyl Choline) materials varing with the blended amount of PVC(Poly Vinyl Chloride) and solution (Tetra Hydrofan:THF) above QCM to obtain the stability of lipid PC film. QCM gas sensors coated with film materials were measured the frequency change in the chamber of stationary gas sensing system injected 1-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and benzene of $20{\mu}{\ell}$, respectively. We obtained the principal component analysis (PCA) from the frequency change due to the absorption of gas. Also, we measured the degradation characteristics of QCM gas sensor to show the properties of stability.

  • The "grafting from" technology to prepare the well-defined microphase-separated structure of polymer using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) will be introduced in this presentation. Various amphiphilic comb copolymers were synthesized through this approach using poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-chlorotrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-co-CTFE) and poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) as a macroinitiator. Hydrophilic side chains such as poly (styrene sulfonic acid) (PSSA) or poly (sulfopropyl methacrylate) (PSPMA) were grafted from the mains chains using direct initiation of the chlorine atoms. The structure of mass transport channels has been controlled and fixed by crosslinking the hydrophobic domains, which also provides the greater mechanical properties of membranes. Successful synthesis and microphase-separated structure of the polymer were confirmed by $^1H$ NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy and TEM. The grafted/crosslinked membranes exhibited good mechanical properties (400 MPa of Young's modulus) and high thermal stability (up to $300^{\circ}C$), as determined by a universal testing machine (UTM) and TGA, respectively.
