In this study, the air pollution management system based GIS has been developed to estimate the emission rate and air pollution modeling of air pollutants, effectively. This system is able to estimate emission rate of air pollutant and to analyze the emission characteristics with high spatial and temporal resolution. air pollution modeling. The air pollution management system was applied to Gwangyang Bay including large industry complex with a large number of emission sources. The air pollution management system was constructed using the spatial database of emission sources in Gwangyang Bay. It was found that the estimated emission rates of air pollutants is similar to the emission characteristics in Gwangyang Bay. Also, the spatial distribution of pollutants was similar to the location of emission sources. The predicted results of air pollution model was showed a good correlation coefficient (0.75) for TSP. The air pollution management system is expected to be effective tool (database system (GIS)) for the management and the control of air pollution.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate representativeness of fuel-based emission factors. Twelve light-duty diesel vehicles which meet Euro-3 to 5 legislative emission limits were selected for emission tests. Second-by-second modal emission rates of vehicles were measured on a standard laboratory chassis dynamometer system. An off-cycle driving cycle was developed as a representative Korean real-world on-road driving cycle. Fuel-based emission factors were developed for short trip segments that involved in the selected driving cycle. Each segment was defined to have unit travel distance, which is 1 km, and characterized by its average speed and Relative Positive Acceleration (RPA). Fuel-based $NO_x$ emission factors demonstrate relatively good representativeness in terms of vehicle operation conditions. $NO_x$ emission factors are estimated to be within ${\pm}20%$ of area-wide emission factor under more than 40% of total driving situations. This result implies that the fuel-based $NO_x$ emission factor could be practically implemented into the on-road emission management strategies, such as a remote sensing device (RSD). High emitting vehicles as well as high emitting operating conditions heavily affect on the mean values and distributions of CO and THC emission factors. Few high emitting conditions are pulling up the mean value and biasing the distributions, which weaken representativeness of fuel-based CO and THC emission factors.

Recently, yearly production of SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel) as an alternative fuel has been rapidly increasing because of the limited waste disposal, rise in oil prices and reduction of greenhouse gas emission. However, SRF using facilities are excluded from the National Air Pollutant Emission Estimation because SRF using facilities are not yet included among the SCC (Source Classification Code). The purpose of this research was to estimate the emission and emission factor of SRF using facilities' PM and $NO_x$, in order to investigate whether or not they are included in the National Air Pollutant Emission Estimation. The emission factors of SRF using facilities' PM and $NO_x$ are calculated as 0.216 kg/ton, and 3.970 kg/ton, and the emission was estimated based on the yearly total SRF usage of 2011. The results above was 18.7% for PM and 12.8% for $NO_x$ emissions from combustion facility (SCC2) in manufacturing industry combustion (SCC1) of CAPSS. If CAPSS estimate the emission by adding SCC on unlisted SRF in case of Boiler (SCC3) fuel, both PM and $NO_x$'s emissions would increase by 15.8% and 11.3% compare to the emissions for the existing combustion facility. As a result, emissions caused by SRF should be considered when calculating the National Air Pollutant Emission Estimation. In addition, further researches to develop emission factor and improve subdivided SCC should be done in the future, for the accurate and reliable estimation of National Emission.

In this study, field measurement was carried out for reasonable improvement of asphalt concrete manufacturing facilities' PM emissions estimation method. Through those, this study calculated PM emission factor and tried to estimate PM emissions from asphalt concrete manufacturing facilities suitable for domestic characteristics. As a result, the efficiency of the PM control device was measured as 99.9%. Using this, uncontrolled PM emission factor was calculated. PM emission factor was calculated 10.97 kg/ton at 23 asphalt concrete manufacturing facilities of 22 workplaces. The PM current emission factor of the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is 14.4 kg/ton, the factor calculated from this study is about 24% lower than the EPA standard.

Strengthening vehicle emission regulation is one of important policies to improve air quality in urban area. Due to the limitation of specified driving cycles for certification test to reflect real driving conditions, additional off-cycle emission regulations have been adopted in US and being developed in Europe. The driving cycles of US or Europe have been used in emission certification for Korean light-duty vehicles, but it has not been known how well the driving cycles reflect various real driving patterns in Korea. In that point of view, it is required to estimate vehicle emission based on real road driving conditions to raise the effectiveness of vehicle emission regulation in Korea. In this study, real driving emission measurements have been conducted for three Korean light-duty vehicles with PEMS. The driving routes consisted of urban, rural and motorway in Seoul and Incheon. The data have been analyzed with various averaging methods including moving averaging windows method and compared to emission limits set with emission certification modes applied to tested vehicles. The results have shown that the real driving pollutant emissions of a gasoline and a LPG vehicles have been ranged quite lower than those of emission limits on CVS-75 driving cycle. But real driving NOx of a light duty diesel vehicle has been considerably higher than emission limit of NEDC driving cycle. The higher than expected NOx emission of a diesel vehicle might be caused by different strategy to control EGR in real driving condition from NEDC driving.

Due to the rapid increase of automobiles and daily driving distances, air pollution by automobiles is still dominant problem of large city in spite of strict emission refutation and development of reduction technologies. Among the air pollution resources of automobile , industry. electricity generation and heating. automobile keeps 51% of total nationwide air pollution in 1998 and this proportion Is increasing in large cities from 65% to 85%. To reduce these air pollution. catalytic converter and electronic engine control, exhaust gas re-circulation and evaporative emission control system have continuously developed and applied to automobiles since 1987. Also strong emission standards and emission durability warranty have enforced and monitored annually by sampling several vehicle models. But technologies and regulations are incomplete, driver should participate in reducing air pollution for himself by planning driving, avoiding unnecessary idle and air conditioning, keeping periodic maintenance and using mass transportation.

Nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) is an important urban pollutant in Korea. Expecially, diesel vehicles are responsible for the most traffic rated nitrogen oxide ($NO_X$) emission, including nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$). Though nitrogen oxide ($NO_X$) emission from vehicle was applied a strict enforcement of emission standard, the specific $NO_2$ fraction in $NO_X$ ($NO_2/NO_X$) from various types of diesel vehicles was not understood. In order to investigate the fraction of $NO_2/NO_X$, the vehicle emission study was carried out at the facility of Transport Pollution Research Center (TPRC), National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER), Korea. Three different types of diesel vehicles(VAN, SUV, passenger) were tested on the NIER driving mode. The result of $NO_2/NO_X$ ratio was over 0.1 for all test vehicles and the highest $NO_2$ emission was observed at the van vehicle. The observation was showed that the emission trend of $NO_2/NO_X$ for passenger and SUV vehicles were inversely proportional. Also, as the emission standard has been strengthen, the emission rate of $NO_2$ has been decrease.

Stationary combustion sources such as coal-fired power plants, waste incinerators, industrial manufacturing, etc. are recognized as major sources of mercury emissions. Due to rapid economic growth, zinc production in Korea has increased significantly during the last 30 years. Total zinc production in Korea exceeded 739,000 tons in 2008, and Korea is currently the third largest zinc producing country in the world. Previous studies have revealed that zinc smelting has become one of the largest single sectors of total mercury emissions in the World. However, studies on this sector are very limited, and a large gap in the knowledge regarding emissions from this sector needs to be bridged. In this paper, Hg emission measurements were performed to develop emission factors from zinc smelting process. Stack sampling and analysis were carried out utilizing the Ontario Hydro method and US EPA method 101A. Preliminary data showed that $Hg^0$ concentrations in the flue gas ranged from 4.56 to $9.90\;{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average of $6.40\;{\mu}g/m^3$, Hg(p) concentrations ranged from 0.03 to $0.09\;{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average of $0.04\;{\mu}g/m^3$, and RGM concentrations ranged from 0.23 to $1.17\;{\mu}g/m^3$ with an average of $6.40\;{\mu}g/m^3$. To date, emission factors of 7.5~8.0 g/ton for Europe, North America and Australia, and of 20 or 25 g/ton for Africa, Asia and South America are widely accepted by researchers. In this study, Hg emission factors were estimated using the data measured at the commercial facilities as emissions per ton of zinc product. Emission factors for mercury from zinc smelting pross ranged from 4.32 to 12.96 mg/ton with an average of 8.31 mg/ton. The emission factors that we obtained in this study are relatively low, considering Hg contents in the zinc ores and control technology in use. However, as these values are estimated by limited data of single measurement of each, the emission factor and total emission amount must be updated in future.

In Korea, the major source of serious air pollution is motor vehicles. Air pollution from vehicles has been annually increased. Then the government will try to control the vehicle emission by applying the effective emission management policy for the manufactured and in-used car. It is necessary to correctly calculate the emission factor for successful propulsion of the vehicle emission control policy. In this study, correlation analysis of exhaust emissions from vehicles between CVS-75 mode and Korea mode was conducted. A total of 25 light-duty buses were tested on the chassis dynamometer system in order to measure CO, HC, NOx PM and fuel efficiency (F.E.). For the test modes, 10 different Korea modes and CVS-75 mode were used. As the result of correlation analysis between those modes, most of the correlation coefficients were higher than 0.90. On the basis of high correlation between those modes, correction factors by driving conditions were estimated. Through the results of this study, we obtained essential basic data to correct difference from those modes.

Electronic Toll Collection System (ETCS), so called "Hi-Pass" in Korea, has improved traffic flow at toll gate of highways. It is known that the improvement of traffic flow should reduce air pollutants and $CO_2$ from vehicles. In this study, real driving emission of a light duty truck with Portable Emission Measurement System(PEMS) has been measured to evaluate the emission reduction effect due to ETCS. The correlations between driving variables and emissions have been analyzed to verify its effect on traffic flow improvement and emission reduction at toll gate. We considered average vehicle speed, Relative Positive Acceleration (RPA), and the distance of queue as driving variables. Compared to passing Manual Toll Collection System (MTCS) lane without queue, ETCS was able to reduce 38.7% of $NO_x$, 21.6% of soot, and 27.7% of $CO_2$. The results showed that the higher the average vehicle speed, the lower RPA and no queue in ETCS contributed to the emission reductions. Linear equation models with RPA and queue have been established by the multiple linear regression method. The linear models resulted in the higher coefficient of determination than those with only average vehicle speed used for establishing vehicle emission factors.
