  • The riparian area plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance between the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The Korean government has recognized the importance of protecting riparian areas and has taken steps to purchase land and create ecobelt to reduce non-point source pollutants(NSPs) that can negatively impact water quality. However, selecting the catchment area and calculating the pollution load can be challenging due to the small area of the purchased land and the limitations of low-resolution DEMs. To address these challenges, this study proposes the use of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) to create a high-resolution DEM and calculate the pollution load through land cover analysis. This approach can provide a more accurate representation of the land use status and help to identify areas that are contributing to NSPs. The quantitative comparison of the difference in water quality improvement ecosystem services according to the scenarios of additional catchment areas shows that even land purchased for the same amount of money may have different ecosystem service values, and this was quantitatively calculated. This can be used to prioritize future land acquisition. Overall, this study's approach could provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of ecobelt in reducing NSPs and inform future efforts to protect riparian areas in Korea and beyond.

장기간 강우-유출 모의를 통한 합류식하수관로시스템의 월류부하량 저감목표 설정 연구 (Set up Reduction Goals of Combined Sewer Overflow Pollutant Load Using Long-Term Rainfall-Runoff Model Simulation)

  • 합류식하수관로시스템에서 강우시 유출수는 관로내 퇴적물과 지표면 세척효과에 의한 오염물질 등이 혼합되어 하천으로 방류되기 때문에 방류수계에 화학적 물리적 생물학적으로 상당한 문제를 야기하지만, 현재 국내에서는 CSOs의 오염 부하량 관리기준을 결정함에 있어 통일된 방법론이 부재한 실정이다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 우수유출모형을 활용한 장기간 CSOs 유량-수질모의를 통하여 CSOs의 오염부하량 저감목표를 설정하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 국내외 CSOs 관리기준을 검토하였으며, 그 결과 연간 총 월류부하량 및 발생빈도를 총 2단계로 구분하여 관리하고, 1단계에서는 60%, 2단계에서는 85%를 저감하는 것을 목표로 설정하였다. 도출된 저감 목표 기준을 대상지역에 적용하여 장기간(최소 10년간)의 CSOs 발생 모의를 바탕으로 분석한 결과, BOD 월류부하량 저감목표는 1단계 1,123 kg, 2단계 2,374 kg이었으며, 목표 달성을 위해 대응해야 할월류량은 1단계 $11,685m^3$, 2단계 $24,701m^3$으로 나타났다.

고랭지밭의 구거복원에 따른 토양유실저감 효과분석 (Analysis of Effect of Ditch Restoration on Soil Loss Reduction in Highland Agricultural Fields)

  • Soil loss is a serious problem frequently caused by local torrential rainfalls due to climate change. In particular, soil loss is occurring in agricultural areas rather than urban areas, and many pollutants are introduced into rivers, causing environmental problems. To reduce soil loss, the Ministry of Environment has designated and managed non-point source management areas. The Jaun-district in Hongcheon-gun, which was designed as a non-point pollution source management area in Gangwon-do, is located in the upper stream of Soyang Lake. Most of the agricultural fields are composed of highland agriculture fields. The highland agricultural fields in the Jaun-district are also composed of large-scale farming areas, and the ditches located near the agricultural fields have been illegally used for farmland. Therefore, the local government in Hongcheon-gun is conducting a project to restore the ditches occupied by agricultural fields. However, an analysis of the amount of soil loss that can be reduced by the restoration of the ditches has not been conducted yet. Thus, the purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of reducing the soil loss from the restoration of the ditches used as agricultural fields in the Jaun-district. The SATEEC L Module was used to analyze the reduction in soil loss by ditch restoration. The SATEEC L Module was constructed to estimate the LS factor using Moore and Burch's method after calculating the slope length using the digital elevation model and the maximum allowable slope length. The LS factor and the USLE formula were used to estimate the amount of soil loss that could be reduced by ditch restoration. The analysis showed that the ditch restoration could reduce about 16.6% of the soil loss in the Jaun-district. The results of this study will contribute to the study of methods to reduce soil loss in non-point pollution management areas.

안동호와 진양호의 상류하천발생 난분해성유기물질 제어에 대한 호소의 기능 (Lake's Function on Control of Refractory Dissolved Organic Matter caused by Upstream Rivers to Andong Lake and JinYang Lake)

  • 집중강우, 장마 및 태풍의 직접적인 영향을 배재한 기간 동안에 안동호와 진양호의 상류하천으로부터 발생되는 DOM과 RDOM의 부하량(DOC 기준)은, 안동호 상류하천에서 5.01-7.29(${\times}10^2$ kg/day)였고, 진양호 상류하천에서 1.23-3.75(${\times}10^3$ kg/day)이었다. 진양호 상류 두 개의 하천에서 진양호로 유입되는 DOM과 RDOM의 발생비율은 SS 발생비율과 높은 상관성($R^2$ > 0.8)을 나타내었으므로 장비사용과 장기간의 실험기간을 요구하는 DOC 및 RDOC 분석에 대체할 수 있는 신속 경제적인 지표로써 SS 수질인자를 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. 안동호와 진양호는 여름철 강한 강우 이후기간동안에 DOM 및 RDOM의 증가를 야기하고, 여름철 강우 이전 기간동안에도 DOM 및 RDOM에 대한 제어기능을 가지지 못하였다. 따라서 이들 두 호소수의 DOM 및 RDOM에 대한 수질적 개선을 위해서는 호소 상류유역의 비점오염원 자체의 제거가 이루어지거나, 호소로 유입되기 전에 이를 제어할 수 있는 완충지의 확보가 필요하다.

수질자료 결측구간의 오염부하 추정기법 비교평가 (Comparative Evaluation of the Pollutant Load Estimation Method in the Water Quality Data Missing Intervals)

  • 수량 및 수질자료, 특히 수질자료가 없는 구간에서의 직접계산에 의한 오염부하 산정은 불가능하기 때문에 적절한 방법을 이용하여 결측구간의 자료를 보완(data filling)하여 계산하는 추정과정을 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서는 수질자료가 없는 구간, 즉 수질 결측구간에서 오염부하량을 산정하기 위한 다양한 농도 추정방법을 제시하고, 제시된 방법을 이용하여 추정된 농도변화 양상 분석 및 오염부하 변동양상을 비교 분석하여 보다 효과적이고, 효율적인 추정방법을 최종 제안하였다. 또한, 오염부하에 영향을 미치는 수량 및 수질인자의 상대적인 중요성과 연안 하천의 오염부하 특성을 구분할 수 있는 영향인자를 제시하였다. 수질자료 결측구간의 다양한 농도 추정방법을 이용하여 한강하구의 오염부하를 산정한 결과, 결측구간을 제외하고 추정한 오염부하는 매우 낮은 비현실적인 결과를 제시하였으며, 가용자료의 변동성을 고려한 선형내삽법이 가장 적합한 방법으로 파악되었다. 또한, 한강하구의 오염부하양상은 수량주도형으로 판단되었으며, 결측구간의 농도추정은 불가피한 과정으로 적절한 추정방법을 이용하는 것이 보다 바람직한 것으로 파악되었다.

VAV/BPFS(Variable-Air-Volume/Bypass Filtration System) 의 실내환경 적응에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application of VAV/BPFS(Variable-Air-Volume/Bypass Filtration System) for Indoor Air Environment)

  • Under controlled conditions in an environmental chamber, 24 experiments were performed to compare the ability of a Variable-Air-Volume/Bypass Filtration System(VAV/BPFS) to remove indoor pollutants and to conserve energy with the ability of conventional Variable Air Volume(VAV) system. The specific conclusions of this paper were; first, the VAV/BPFS was more efficient than the VAV system in removing particulate matter, TVOC, and target VOCs. The total effective removal rate of PM for the VAV/BPFS was two times as high as that of the VAV system. The total effective removal rate of TVOC for the VAV/BPFS was 20 percent higher than that of the VAV system. Also each target VOC concentration was reduced by using the VAV/BPFS. Second, clean air delivery rate was increased by using VAV/BPFS due to additional filtration rate. Otherwise, the VAV/BPFS decreased outdoor supply air rate above 25 percent relative to the rate of VAV system. Third, total energy consumption by the VAV/BPFS was lower than that of the VAV system during the period with indoor thermal load, occupied time. The energy saving of the VAV/BPFS ranged from 11 to 16 percent. The VAV/BPFS improves indoor air quality more efficiently than the VAV system, and it reduced energy consumption. Retrofitting the VAV system with the VAV/BPFS was easy The use of VAV/BPFS is, therefore, recommended far buildings with VAV system as well as for buildings at designing stage.

바이오 디젤 적용에 따른 대형엔진의 배출가스 특성 (The Emission Characteristics of Bio-Diesel Fuel in Heavy-Duty Engine)

  • Recently, a great deal of attention have been directed to the use of alternative fuels as a means to reduce vehicular emissions. As one of the promising alternative fuels, bio-diesel has advantages of a wide adaptability without retrofit of diesel engine. It is also effective enough to reduce CO, THC, $SO_x$, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and PM. In this study, we investigated the emission characteristics of biofuels between different operating conditions, i.e., engine speed (1,400 rpm and 2,300 rpm), engine load (10% and 100%), bio-diesel blending (BD0, BD5 and BD20), and recirculation (EGR) rate of exhaust gas (0% and 20%). Relative performance of the system was evaluated mainly for the greenhouse gases ($CH_4$, $N_2O$ and $CO_2$). In addition, emission characteristics of ND-13 mode were also tested against both greenhouse gases and other airborne pollutants under emission regulation. The relative composition of bio-diesel has shown fairly clear effects on the emission quantities of CO, THC, and PM emission, although it was not on $NO_x$ and greenhouse gases. EGR rate has shown trade-off characteristics between $NO_x$ and PM.

오염저감 기법개발을 위한 유출수내 고형물질 특성 규명 (Analysis of Solids in Runoff to Prevent Solids Pollution)

  • The fate and transport mechanism of pollutants which have affinities to particles, such as trace metals and some petroleum product based compounds, can be effectively explained by the movement of sediment. The sediment release from lands to adjacent water bodies due to rainfall events was investigated in an effort to predict the total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations in runoff. The contribution of sediment from land origin to the river TSS can be better understood by the relationship between TSS concentration and particle size in runoff. The sieve analysis was used to determine the particle size distribution and these results were incorporated into statistical models. The critical size of particles was set to $74{\mu}m$ which contributes to the river TSS concentration since fine particles (wash load) of the sediment in the runoff play the key role in constituting TSS in a water column of the river. Empirical relationships were developed to predict TSS in runoff from the percentage of the critical particle size and were proven statistically to be valid.

고속도로 노면 청소에 따른 강우시 유출오염부하 저감 효과 분석 (Effect of Road Sweeping on the Abatement of Runoff Pollution Loads from in the Highway)

  • In this study, to evaluate the abatement of runoff pollution loads by the road sweeping(cleaning), various investigations are implemented at the sample area of the highway. As the results of evaluating the removal efficiency of pollutants along road cleaning, TSS showed about 78 % of the removal efficiency and COD showed 49 % of removal efficiency through the operation of cleaning vehicle of vacuum suction method. In case of TN and TP, they showed the relatively-lower removal efficiency by 30~35 %. TSS removal efficiency along the number of cleaning appeared about 60 % in case of one time of cleaning and the additional removal effect did not appear though the number of cleaning increased to two times. With running speed of cleaning vehicle, TSS removal ratio is lessened from 60 % to 20 % when cleaning vehicle speed up to 20 km/hr from 6 km/hr. It seems that the reasons why the removal efficiencies are inversely proportional to its speed are related to the lower vacuum efficiencies and the disturbed particles on the road. In the pollutant build-up analysis, it is showed that it takes more time to the critical pollutant build-up in the shoulder than the center of the road. It is also showed that the proper cleaning cycle is recommended as 4~6 dry weather days without rainfall events.

사회적 비용을 고려한 저탄소 전원구성의 시나리오 분석 (Scenario Analysis of Low-Carbon Generation Mix Considering Social Costs)

  • This study organizes scenarios on the power supply and demand plans considering the uncertainties and the portion of distributed energy resources. In analysing the scenarios, it estimates total electricity supply cost in the social aspect, natural gas demand and air pollutants emission including carbon dioxide. Also the analysis is performed to estimate the marginal cost of carbon dioxide reduction for the fuel switching from coal to liquified natural gas. In result, the social cost could be decreased by replacing some portion of renewable energy by LNG-based combined heat and power and delaying the construction of large base-load generators such as coal and nuclear plants. The marginal carbon dioxide reduction cost by fuel switching is in plausible range for fuel switching to be an option for carbon dioxide emission reduction when the social cost is considered.
