Nowadays, countries all over the world are deeply concerned about pollution in the global environment, so they are seeking various ways to adequately disposal of waste. Still, the environmental situation seems to be getting worse and worse. It is evident that such wastes and pollution have been endangering human life nestled in this globe up to the end of the 20th century. We should not, however, tolerate such human misconduct and mal-management of resources any more in the new millenium. For realizing a society that is sustainable for generations to come, it is important to establish a social system for minimizing wastes, promote re-use and recycling, and develop technology for improving recycling efficiencies, including product designs that facil-itate re-use and recycling and innovative technologies for processing wastes. In this paper, reviewing the current status of Korean waste problems, the governmental policy and specific approach for the establishment for recycling society is considered.

Storage services integration can be done for achieving high availability, improving data access performance and scalability while preventing vendor lock-in. However, multiple services environment management and interoperability have become a critical issue as a result of service architectures and communication interfaces heterogeneity. Storage federation model provides the integration of multiple heterogeneous and self-sufficient storage systems with a single control point and automated decision making about data distribution. In order to integrate diverse heterogeneous storage services into a single storage pool, we are proposing a storage service federation framework named BoxBroker. Moreover, an automated decision model based on a policy-driven data distribution algorithm and a service evaluation method is proposed enabling BoxBroker to make optimal decisions. Finally, a demonstration of our proposal capabilities is presented and discussed.
In today's competitive dental markets, it is of paramount importance to improve service quality and at the same time to use scarce resource efficiently. In this study, we present appointment policies and scheduling rules for private dental clinics to reduce the waiting time of patients and to increase the revenue by utilizing resource more effectively. This study validates the proposed appointment policies and scheduling rules based on simulation models. We show that the bottleneck-based appointment policy is the most effective among appointment policies, followed by the multiple-block appointment one. The shortest processing time among scheduling rules contributes most to the performance of the appointment system.

With the emergence of the new era of the 4th industrial revolution, compute-bound workloads with large memory footprint like big data processing increase dramatically. Even in such compute-bound workloads, however, we observe bulky I/Os while loading big data from storage to memory. Although file I/O cache plays a role of accelerating the performance of storage I/O, we found out that the cache hit rate in such environments is not improved even though we increase the file I/O cache capacity because of some special I/O references generated by compute-bound workloads. To cope with this situation, we propose a new file I/O cache management policy that improves the cache hit rate for compute-bound workloads significantly. Trace-driven simulations by replaying file I/O reference logs of compute-bound workloads show that the proposed cache management policy improves the cache hit rate compared to the well-acknowledged CLOCK algorithm by a large margin.
This paper empirically examines the relationship between inter-Korean trade and inter-Korean relations over the past three decades. It asks two questions: (1) Does inter-Korean trade contribute to improved inter-Korean relations and peace on the Korean Peninsula? (2) Does improved inter-Korean relations lead to increased inter-Korean trade? The study employs a time-series causal relationship analysis methodology to answer these questions. The findings show that during the progressive government's reign, inter-Korean trade was not impacted by inter-Korean relations. This is due to the implementation of a political-economic separation policy towards North Korea. Moreover, the increase in general trade and processing on commission did enhance inter-Korean relations, reflecting the "inclusive policy" aimed at achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula through inter-Korean trade. In contrast, during the conservative government's reign, inter-Korean relations had a direct impact on inter-Korean trade, with deteriorating relations leading to a significant decrease in trade. This was due to the implementation of North Korea policies that were linked to politics and the economy.

The market size of Korea's seafood industry is estimated to be about 62 trillion won ('19), of which the seafood processing industry is about 10 trillion won ('19), accounting for approximately 16% of the total market size. However, the current level of processing technology required for the development of seafood products is mainly simple primary processing, such as freezing and drying raw materials (in Jeollanam-do, which ranks first in the country in terms of seafood production, primary processors account for 86% of all seafood processors). In the future, trends in the development of processing technology for seafood will become more advanced in response to changes in domestic and international food consumption patterns. Blue food tech linked to ESG, convergence and digitalization linked to the 4th industry revolution will be further advanced in line with the national seafood industry policy direction. Through this, it is expected to establish itself as an axis of future technology management in the fisheries sector based on the large and small success stories of accumulated seafood R&D commercialization.
Cobalt-rich manganese crusts on seamounts have received an increasing amount of attention as future resources for Co, Ni, Cu, and Mn. A dearth of detailed information regarding the relevant distribution characteristics, mining technologies, and ore processing technologies, however, has precluded potential evaluations of the technical and economic advantages of these crusts. In the past 4 years, Korea has undertaken a survey of the cobalt-rich manganese crusts in and around the Magellan Seamount and Mid-Pacific Mountains. This paper introduces the preliminary feasibility study of the distribution features and R&D results centered around the development of the cobalt-rich manganese crusts. The evaluation model was developed by modifying the model for the manganese nodules. In addition to considering the geological and geophysical differences between the manganese nodules and the cobalt-rich manganese crusts, an ore dressing subsystem was installed in the model. The mining subsystem is composed of a self-propelled collector--a pipeline with submersible hydraulic pumps for crust lifting. The smelting and chlorine leach method was selected for metallurgical processing. The production scales were established at 2,500t/y of cobalt metal. The production of three metals--cobalt, nickel, and copper--was considered in terms of metallurgical processing. The economic feasibility analyses demonstrated that the payback period was 11.4 years, the NPV was 36M$, and the IRR was 9.6% with the economic factors in the case of a cobalt price of US$ 25/lb. It was also demonstrated in this study that the payback period was 8.6 years, the NPV was 154M$, and the IRR was 14.0% in the case of a cobalt price of US$ 30/lb. This indicates that the approach under consideration appears to offer greater potential given the predicted metal prices.

This paper proposes a user's mobility based cooperative proxy caching policy for effective resource management of continuous media objects in mobile environments. This policy is different from the existing proxy caching policies in terms of how to exploit users' mobility. In other words, existing caching policies work based on the information about objects by referring to user's requests within a specified domain whereas the proposed caching policy runs by utilizing a number of user's requests across several domains. So, the proposed policy is applicable to random requests in mobile environments Moreover, we also propose a replacement policy based on weights and playback time. To check the efficiency of the proposed caching policy, the proposed replacement policy is run with different size of caching unit object or segment. The result of performance analyze tells what a ratio of user's mobility is are major factors for the efficient operation of the cooperative caching.
This paper presents the design of a certain highly efficient security policy negotiation of SPS(Security Policy System) for secure network management using mobile agent system. The conventional IP security systems for secure network management have some problems. A drawback to these systems is that the required policy between each security area is different. Another problem is not possible to guarantee whether a packet is transmitted through the same path by both directions and is protected by the same policy due to the topology of the network. Unlike conventional systems, the model developed herein can be resolved by using a mobile agent technology. If each domain needs a negotiation of security policy, a mobile agent manages the result of the negotiation in the form of a passport and guarantees the authentication and reliability each other by using the passport.
It has been 2 years since the implementation of the separation of prescription and drug dispensing policy. This study analyzes the effects of the policy on the job contents and personnel structure of hospital pharmacy. The main purposes of the analysis are to determine if the policy has causes the increase of professional activities of pharmacists in hospital and to investigate whether the hospital pharmacy is equipped with enough manpower to provide high quality pharmaceutical service as intended by the policy. The level of professionality of pharmacists' activities is measured by the number of activities of direct involvement in inpatient care such as participation in patient rounding, medication consultation, the number of hospital committee the pharmacists involved and the number of continuous education pharmacists took. The adequacy of personnel structure to provide high quality pharmaceutical care is measured by the level of compliance to the governmental standard of hospital pharmacy personnel. In order to collect the data, surveys were performed for two periods: year 1999 (before the implementation of the policy) and year 2001 (after the implementation of the policy). The results show that the pharmacists' participation in inpatient rounding decreased and that the inpatient medication history management activities, operation of ward pharmacy, participation in hospital committee increased. In personnel structure, the average number of pharmacist per hospital decreased and the number of prescription processing per pharmacist increased. Based on the results this study concludes that the professional activities of hospital pharmacists has increased a little and there were structural changes in hospital pharmacy service activities to increase the professionalism in providing care. However, the pharmacy departments were understaffed hampering the strive to increase the provision of professional pharmaceutical service in hospitals.
