For the design of compression anchor, three things should be considered. The first is a resistance force by skin friction, the second is a tension strength of tendon, and the third is a compressive strength of grout. Especially, compressive strength of grout is the most important design parameter of compression anchor. When compression anchor is pulled out from the ground, the compressive strength of grout increases by confining pressure of ground($\sigma_{tg$). Here, $\sigma_{tg$ is the confining pressure which is produced by earth pressure at rest and by lateral expansion of grout. We call this phenomenon of increase of confining pressure "poisson effect". In this paper, the design method of compression anchor called SSC anchor and the computer program for the design are developed through compression tests of anchor body grout.ody grout.
The interaction of cracks and water significantly affects the fracture mechanism of rocks. In this study, laboratory tests were conducted using sandstone samples containing a single fissure to explore the hydro-mechanical behaviors in the failure process of pre-cracked rocks. The internal crack characteristics were also analyzed using X-ray CT scanning. The results show that the confining pressure has the greatest effect on the mechanical properties (e.g., strengths, elastic modulus, and Poisson's ratio), followed by the fissure inclination and water pressure. At a lower fissure inclination, the confining pressure may control the type main cracks that form, and an increase in the water pressure increases the number of anti-wing cracks and the length of wing cracks and branch cracks. However, the fracture behaviors of samples with a higher fissure inclination are only slightly affected by the confining pressures and water pressures. The effect of fissure inclination on the internal crack area is reduced with the propagation from the fissure tips to the sample ends. The fissure inclination mainly affects the value of permeability but not affect the trend. The impact of pre-existing fissure on permeability is smaller than that of confining pressure and water pressure.

The shear strength of cohesionless Soils results from particle-to-particle friction and structural resistance by interlocking. And, the shear strength of soils is subjected to vary depending on the internal states and external condtions. If the volume change occurring in the soils and stress-strain relationships under the internal and external changes can accrurately he described, it is possible to predict the behaviors of soils. To accomplish these objectives a series of drained triaxial compression tests and isotropic compression test was performed on the Banwol sand at different relative densities ranging from 20% to 80% and different confining pressures ranging from 0.4kgf/cm$^2$ to l2kgf/cm$^2$. The results and main conclusions of the study are summarized as follows; 1.When the relative density or the confining pressure is increased, the maximum deviator stress is increased. The ratio of the maximum deviator stress and the confining pressure is linearly proportional to the relative density. 2.It is observed that the dilatancy depends not only upon its relative density but also the confining stress, and that the maximum deviator stress is obtained after the diatancy occurs. 3.The volume of sands undergoes initial contraction prior to the dilatancy occurred by strain softening. The dilatancy rate eventually approaches the critical state or a constant volume. 4.At lower strains, Poisson's ratio approaches a certain minimum value regadless of the state of materials. At larger strains, however, the ratio is increased as the relative density is increased. 5.It is observed that the modulus of elasticity is linearly proportional to the relative density and the pressure. 6.When the relative density is increased, the friction angle of sands is linearly increased. 7.When the relative density is increased, the expansion index and the compression index are linearly decreased, and the ratio of the two is about 1/3.

The proposed method, capable of predicting various stress-strain responses in axially loaded concrete confined with FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymers) composites in a rational manner, is based on the fact that the volumetric expansion due to progressive microcracking in mechanically loaded concrete is an important measure of the extent of damage in the material microstructure. The elastic modulus expressed as a function of area strain and concrete porosity, the energy-balance equation relating the dilating concrete to the confining device interactively, the varying confining pressure, and an incremental calculation algorithm are included in the solution procedure. This procedure enables the evaluation of lateral strains consecutively according to the related mechanical model and the energy-balance equation, rather than using an empirically derived equation for Poisson's ratio or dilation rate as in other analytical methods.
The effects of initial soil fabric and aspect ratio (AR) on the small-strain stiffness (G0) of granular soils are studied by employing discrete element method (DEM) numerical analysis. Elongated clumps composed of subspheres were adopted, and the G0 values were obtained by DEM simulations of drained triaxial tests under different densities and initial confining pressure (p0). The DEM simulations indicate that the initial soil fabric has an insignificant effect on G0. The effect of the AR on G0 is related to the initial density. Namely, for dense specimens, G0 first increases with increasing AR, reaching a plateau value when the AR ≥ 1.5. However, for loose specimens, G0 gradually increases as the AR increases. Microscopic examination reveals that G0 uniquely depends on the coordination number of the particles (CN-particle) rather than the subspheres (CN-sphere) at the particulate level for the effects of initial soil fabric and AR. Finally, Poisson's ratio ν0 is also determined by CN-particle. In addition, based on data in literature and this study, ν0 can be fitted as ν0 = 5.920(G0/(p0)1/3)-0.99, which can be used to predict ν0 of granular soils based on the measured G0.

A ICH-CFT colunn(internally confined hollow-concrete filled tube column) has many advantages compare with R.C column and CFT column. For example using a hollow section, it is possible to save material and to reduce self weight of column. Also two steel tubes on both sid of concrete, inner and outter tube, can improve ductility of ICH-CFT column. But study about ICH-CFT section has done only theoretically. Thus although ICH-CFT column has many advantages, ICH-CFT column dosen't use in construction. In this thesis, through out 3-D full modeling using ABAQUS analyze the nonlinear behavaior of ICH-CFT column. And using the analysis result, review the theoretical knowledge.
Recently, EPS which has unit weight of only 20~30kg/m3, is used for acquiring the safety of settlement and bearing capacity, In Korea, EPS was first used in 1993 as backfill material for abutment that was constructed on soft ground in Inchon. Since then EPS has been used increasingly as backfill material. However, adequate modelling has not yet been proposed for the prediction of the behavior of EPS. Only it's design strength was proposed as the results of unconfined strength and creep test. Accordingly this paper executed triaxial compression test on EPS with various density and confining pressure. Through the analysis of test data the behavior of EPS for strainstress, tangential modulus and poisson's ratio can be expressed in functions with parameters of density and confining pressure of EPS. From these results, this paper proposed a nonliner model describing the behavior of EPS.
An analytical method capable of predicting various stress-strain responses in axially loaded concrete confined with FRP (fiber reinforced polymers) composites in a rational manner is presented. Its underlying idea is that the volumetric expansion due to progressive microcracking in mechanically loaded concrete is an important measure of the extent of damage in the material microstructure, and can be utilized to estimate the load-carrying capacity of concrete by considering the corresponding accumulated damage. Following from this, an elastic modulus expressed as a function of area strain and concrete porosity, the energy-balance equation relating the dilating concrete to the confining device interactively, the varying confining pressure, and an incremental calculation algorithm are included in the solution procedure. The proposed method enables the evaluation of lateral strains consecutively according to the related mechanical model and the energy-balance equation, rather than using an empirically derived equation for Poisson's ratio or dilation rate as in other analytical methods. Several existing analytical methods that can predict the overall response were also examined and discussed, particularly focusing on the way of considering the volumetric expansion. The results predicted by the proposed and Samaan's bilinear equation models correlated with observed results with a reasonable degree, however it can be judged that the latter is not capable of predicting the response of lateral strains correctly due to incorporating the initial Poisson's ratio and the final converged dilation rate only. Further, the proposed method seems to have greater benefits in other applications by the use of the fundamental principles of mechanics.
