Reverse engineering technology refers to the process that creates a CAD model of an existing part using measuring devices. Recently, non-contact scanning devices have become more accurate and the speed of data acquisition has increased drastically. However, they generate thousands of points per second and various types of point data. Therefore, it becomes a major issue to handle the huge amount and various types of point data. To generate a CAD model from scanned point data efficiently, these point data should be well arranged through point data handling processes such as data reduction and segmentation. This paper proposes a new point data handling method using 3D grids. The geometric information of a part is extracted from point cloud data by estimating normal values of the points. The non-uniform 3D grids for data reduction and segmentation are generated based on the geometric information. Through these data reduction and segmentation processes, it is possible to create CAD models autmatically and efficiently. The proposed method is applied to two quardric medels and the results are discussed.

Reverse engineering technology refers to the process that creates a CAD model of an existing part using measuring devices. Recently, non-contact scanning devices have become more accurate and the speed of data acquisition has increased drastically. However, they generate thousands of points per second and various types of point data. Therefore. it becomes a important to handle the huge amount and various types of point data to generate a surface model efficiently. This paper proposes a new triangular mesh generation method using 3D grids. The geometric information of a part can be obtained from point cloud data by estimating normal values of the points. In our research, the non-uniform 3D grids are generated first for feature based data reduction based on the geometric information. Then, triangulation is performed with the reduced point data. The grid structure is efficiently used not only for neighbor point search that can speed up the mesh generation process but also for getting surface connectivity information to result in same topology surface with the point data. Through this integrated approach, it is possible to create surface models from scanned point data efficiently.

In this paper, we propose a method that search the sweet spot of antenna beam, and keep it for fast speed transmission in millimeter wave on point-to-point link. We use TDD(Time Division Duplex) as transfer method, and it transfers the control data of antenna. The proposed method is the modified genetic algorithm which selects a superior initial group through slave-processing in order to resolve the local solution of genetic algorithm. The efficiency of the proposed method is verified by means of simulations with white Gaussian noise and not on point-to-point link.

The traditional theory regarding the pivot point of a ship during maneuvering, so called apparent pivot point, is located nearly at 1/3 ship's length from the bow when the ship is moving ahead, and between 1/4 ship's length from the stern and the rudder post when going astern. The pivot point is sometimes considered to be the centre of leverage for forces acting on the ship. However, the pivot point is located out of ship due to strong lateral force, such as current and it is very inconvenient to use during maneuvering a ship. In this paper firstly, pivot points due to ship's condition are investigated carefully. And then the center of lateral resistance used at the present are determined. While a new lateral force is added, we can compare the pivot point with the center of lateral forces. Finally, we will suggest the center of all lateral forces for maneuvering instead of pivot point. Especially, it will be very helpful for pilots to handle ships in simulation.
Comparing to general scanning data, the 3D digital map for large construction sites and complex buildings consists of millions of points. The large construction site needs to be scanned multiple times by drone photogrammetry or terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) survey. The scanned point cloud data are required to be registrated with high resolution and high point density. Unlike the registration of 2D data, the matrix of translation and rotation are used for registration of 3D point cloud data. Archiving high accuracy with 3D point cloud data is not easy due to 3D Cartesian coordinate system. Therefore, in this study, iterative closest point (ICP) registration method for improve accuracy of 3D digital map was employed by different overlap ratio on 3D digital maps. This study conducted the accuracy test using different overlap ratios of two digital maps from 10% to 100%. The results of the accuracy test presented the optimal overlap ratios for an ICP registration method on digital maps.

Accurate household projections are essential for sectors such as housing supply and tax policy planning, given the rapid social changes like declining birthrates, an aging population, and a rise in single-person households that impact household size and type. Korea introduced its first register-based census in 2015, transitioning from five-year general survey-based approach to an annual administrative data-based census. This change in census allows for more frequent and effective capturing the rapid demographic shifts and trends. However, this change in census has caused challenges in future projection by the existing household projection model due to the rapid dynamics. This paper proposes a new household projection method, the N-point Modified Exponential Model (MEM), that accurately reflects register-based census data and mitigates the impact of rapid demographic changes, in three types: the Weighted N-point MEM, the Regression-based N-point MEM, and the Rolling Weighted N+point MEM. Using register-based census data from 2016 to 2020 to forecast household headship rates by age, household size, and household type to 2051, the N-point modified exponential model outperformed the existing model in both long- and short-term forecast accuracy, suggesting its suitability as a future household projection model for Korea.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of functional insole application using a hallux point on dynamic balance. Methods: Twenty-nine participated in this study. The experiment investigated changes in dynamic balance with the use of a functional insole that emphasized the hallux point. After explaining the experiment to the subjects, the Y-balance test was conducted to measure dynamic balance before the insole was applied. The test was then repeated after the functional insole with the hallux point was. Paired t-tests were used to analyze the statistical differences before and after the application of the functional insole with the hallux point. Results: The functional insole that emphasizes the hallux point significantly increased the distance in the anterior (p<0.05), posteromedial (p<0.05), posterolateral (p<0.05) directions as well as the composite score measured by the Y-balance test compared to before the insole application. Conclusion: The use of a functional insole that emphasizes the hallux point can help the foot pronate during dynamic balance, thereby improving balance through the control of the sole.
In this study, the multidisciplinary aerodynamic-structural optimal design is carried out for the supersonic fighter wing. Through the aeroelastic analyses of the various candidate wings, the aerodynamic and structural performances are calculated such as the lift coefficient, the drag coefficient and the deformation of the wing. In general, the supersonic fighter is maneuvered under the various flight conditions and those conditions must be considered all together during the design process. The multi-point design, therefore, is deemed essential. For this purpose, supersonic dash, long cruise range and high angle of attack maneuver are selected as representative design points. Based on the calculated performances of the candidate wings, the response surfaces for the objectives and constraints are generated and the supersonic fighter wing is designed for better aerodynamic performances and less weights than the baseline. At each design point, the single-point design is performed to obtain better performances. Finally, the multi-point design is performed to improve the aerodynamic and structural performances for all design points. The optimization results of the multi-point design are compared with those of the single-point designs and analyzed in detail.

Vanishing point can be defined as a point generated by converged perspective lines, which are parallel in the real world. In this paper, we propose a real-time vanishing point detection algorithm using this fundamental feature of vanishing point. The existing methods 1) require high computational cost or 2) are restricted to specific image contents. The proposed method detects the vanishing point in images based on the block-wise HOG (Histogram of Oriented Gradient) descriptor. First, we compute the HOG descriptor in a block-wise manner, then estimate the location of the vanishing point using the proposed dynamic programing. Experiments are performed on diverse images to confirm the efficiency of the proposed method.

Workers in nuclear power plants are likely to be exposed to radiation from various geometrical sources. In order to evaluate the exposure level, the point-kernel method can be utilized. In order to perform a dose assessment based on this method, the radiation source should be divided into point sources, and the number of divisions should be set by the evaluator. However, for the general public, there may be difficulties in selecting the appropriate number of divisions and performing an evaluation. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop an algorithm for dose assessment for arbitrary shaped sources based on the point-kernel method. For this purpose, the point-kernel method was analyzed and the main factors for the dose assessment were selected. Subsequently, based on the analyzed methodology, a dose assessment algorithm for arbitrary shaped sources was developed. Lastly, the developed algorithm was verified using Microshield. The dose assessment procedure of the developed algorithm consisted of 1) boundary space setting step, 2) source grid division step, 3) the set of point sources generation step, and 4) dose assessment step. In the boundary space setting step, the boundaries of the space occupied by the sources are set. In the grid division step, the boundary space is divided into several grids. In the set of point sources generation step, the coordinates of the point sources are set by considering the proportion of sources occupying each grid. Finally, in the dose assessment step, the results of the dose assessments for each point source are summed up to derive the dose rate. In order to verify the developed algorithm, the exposure scenario was established based on the standard exposure scenario presented by the American National Standards Institute. The results of the evaluation with the developed algorithm and Microshield were compare. The results of the evaluation with the developed algorithm showed a range of 1.99×10-1~9.74×10-1 μSv hr-1, depending on the distance and the error between the results of the developed algorithm and Microshield was about 0.48~6.93%. The error was attributed to the difference in the number of point sources and point source distribution between the developed algorithm and the Microshield. The results of this study can be utilized for external exposure radiation dose assessments based on the point-kernel method.
