The smoke from a burning cigarette is classified as mainstream, which is the smoke inhaled by the smoker during a puff, and sidestream, which is defined by ISO 10185 as all smoke which leaves a cigarette during the smoking process other than from the butt end. Most of the sidestream smoke is generated during static burn, that is, in between puffs. The amount of sidestream smoke generated by a cigarette depends on the cigarette construction, tobacco blend, and properties of the cigarette paper, The main paper properties affecting sidestream smoke generation are: porosity, basis weight, type and amount of filler, type and amount of burn additive.Sidestream smoke is composed of a visible phase (small liquid droplets) and an invisible phase (gaseous molecules). This paper focuses on the visible portion of the sidestream smoke. Optical methods, which are based on the relationship between light scattering and density of the rising plume of smoke, have been used successfully by the industry. However, the present trend is to use gravimetric methods where the particulate matter is captured on a Cambridge(R) filter pad and weighed. The gaseous portion of the sidestream smoke, which does not contribute to the visible sidestream smoke, passes through the Cambridge filter pad.Sidestream smoke reduction is achieved by modifying certain mass transport processes occurring in a smoldering cigarette. There are four main pathways for reducing sidestream smoke: A) less tobacco burned, B) slower rate of tobacco combustion, C) more efficient trapping of smoke by the cigarette paper, and D) more complete combustion of tobacco. This paper discusses how the physical properties of paper and cigarette construction affect sidestream smoke reduction via the above four mechanisms.

Propulsion subsystem transfers KOMPSAT into mission orbit and controls its attitude. Design factor consists of structure safety, electrical circuit design, consumable power estimation of thermal hardwares, damping device design of fuel transient pressure, and system configuration design by considering plume effect from thruster firing. System level analysis should be performed for verification of system design under launch vehicle and orbital environment. Electrical functional test of thermal control hardware, proof pressure test, cleanliness verification test, and internal/external leakage test of fuel feeding system should be carried out for performance estimation of propulsion system. Design and assembly process of propulsion subsystem was depicted and reliability of system was verified by test analysis in this paper.
In this study, the height of the flame required to estimate the heat flow path and flame spread in pool fire has been applied by the empirical formula, but it is calculated without applying the pressure and temperature parameters of the fire room. Until now, the height of the flame applied to pool fire was $l_F=0.235Q^{2/5}-1.02D$ in the Heskestad empirical formula, but accurate temperature calculation was not possible due to the temperature and pressure which are not influenced by the flame height. Therefore, applying the temperature and pressure around it can calculate the exact flame height, which can be applied to fire investigation and fire dynamics. The structure of the flame is divided into a continuous flame, an intermittent flame, and a buoyancy flame, but it is assumed that the flame height is calculated from the visual aspect to the intermittent flame region, and the temperature of the buoyancy flame is very low. The effect of heat of vaporization on the height of flame was investigated. The results showed that flame height was different according to the pressure and temperature around the fire room.
The reattachment of buoyant effluent to shore in a crossflow is investigated experimentally. The effluent is produced by discharging warm water through projecting side channel into a confined cross-flow of the same depth. In the projecting effluent, the size of recirculating region, which is formed by defleted thermal plume on the lee of the effluent, tends to increase, but the maximum temperature decreases in the direction of the crossflow and it has more even transverse spreading compared to non-projecting type. The heat flux across the crossflow is found to be independant of the projected length of the side channel under relatively low buoyancy flux on the contrary to high buoyancy flux. The reattachment of the effluent can be specified by both velocity ratio and densimetric Froude number, whereas only the velocity ratio is governing factor to the reattachment of the effluent in the case of non-projecting type.
A series of parametric calculations have been performed in order to investigate the short-term and short-range plume and puff behavior of toxic gaseous and solid pollutant dispersion in an open atmosphere. The simulation is made by the use of the computer program developed by this laboratory, in which a control-volume based finite-difference method is used together with the SIMPLEC algorithm for the resolution of the pressure-velocity coupling appeared In Wavier-Stokes equation. The Reynolds stresses are solved by the standard two-equation k-$\varepsilon$ model modified for buoyancy together with the RNG(Renormalization Group) k-$\varepsilon$ model. The major parameters considered in this calculation are pollutant gas density and temperature, the relative velocity of pollutants to that of the surrounding atmospheric air, and particulate size and density together with the height released. The flow field is typically characterized by the formation of a strong recirculation region for the case of the low density gases such as $CH_4$ and air due to the strong buoyancy, while the flow is simply declining pattern toward the downstream ground for the case of heavy molecule like the $CH_2C1_2$and $CCl_4$, even for the high temperature, $200^{\circ}C$. The effect of gas temperature and velocity on the flow field together with the particle trajectory are presented and discussed in detail. In general, the results are physically acceptable and consistent.
An accident of an ammonia tank pipeline at a storage plant resulted in one death and three injuries in 2014. Many accidents including toxic gas releases and explosions occur in the freezing and refrigerating systems using ammonia. Especially, the consequence can be substantial due to that the large amount of ammonia is usually being used in the refrigeration systems. In this study, offsite consequence analysis has been investigated when ammonia leaks outdoors from large storages. Both flammable and toxic effects are under consideration to calculate the affected area using simulation programs for consequence analysis. ERPG-2 concentration (150 ppm) has been selected to calculate the evacuation distance out of various release scenarios for their dispersions in day or night. For offsite residential, the impact area by flammability is much smaller than that by toxicity. The methodology consists of two steps as followings; 1. Calculation for discharge rates of accidental release scenarios. 2. Dispersion simulation using the discharge rate for different conditions. This proactive prediction for accidental releases of ammonia would help emergency teams act as quick as they can.

The Separated Pulsed Laser Deposition (SPLD) technique uses two chambers that are separated by a conic metallic wall with a central orifice. The pressures of ablation chamber and deposition chamber were controlled by the differential vacuum system. We deposited zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films by SPLD method to obtain high quality thin films. When the bias voltage of +500 V was applied between a substrate and an orifice, the ZnO thin film was deposited efficiently. The deposited ZnO thin film at ablation chamber gas pressure of Ar 5 mTorr showed the sharpest ultraviolet absorption edge indicatory the band gap of about 3.1 eV. ZnO thin films were deposited using effect of electric and magnetic fields in the SPLD method. E${\times}$B drift happened by an electric fields and a magnetic fields, activated plasma plume, as a result the film surface became very smooth. When the bias voltage of +500 V and magnet of 0,1 T were applied the ZnO thin films surface state showed high quality. Grain size was 41.99 nm and RMS was 0.84 nm.

A series of measurements and visualization to investigate the interaction of water sprays with pool fires is presented. Fire source is a small-scale pool burner with methanol, ethanol and gasoline. Measurements of temperatures, $O_2$, $CO_2$, and CO concentrations along the plume centerline are carried out to observe pool fire structures without water sprays. Visualization by the Ar-ion laser sheet shows flow pattern of droplets of the sprays above the pool fires. It is observed that in the case of methanol and ethanol, water sprays continuously penetrate into the center of fuel surfaces. The gasoline pool fire allows intermittent penetration of water sprays because of pulsating characteristics of the gasoline flame. To evaluate the cooling effect of the fuel surface by the sprays, the temperature was measured at the fuel surface. As soon as the mists reach the fuel surface of methanol and ethanol, the temperatures of the fuel surface decrease rapidly below the boiling point, and then the fires are extinguished. Due to the application of mist upon the gasoline fire, though the fuel temperature decrease abruptly at the time of the injection, such a rapid decrease do not continue till the extinction point.

Vent mixer can provide main flow directly into a recirculation region downstream of the mixer to enhance fuel-air mixing efficiency. Based on experimental results of three-dimensional velocity, vorticity and turbulent kinetic energy obtained by a stereoscopic PIV method, the performance of the vent mixer was compared with that of the step mixer which was used as a basic model. Thick shear layers of the vent mixer induced the increase of the penetration height. The turbulent kinetic energy mainly distributed along a boundary layer between the main flow and the jet plume. This turbulent field activates mass transfer in a mixing region, leading to the mixing enhancement.

Gas submerged jet is an outstanding thermohydraulic phenomenon in pool scrubbing of fission products during a severe nuclear accident. Experiments were performed on the hydraulic characteristics in the ranges of air mass flux 0.1-1400 kg/m2s and nozzle diameter 10-80 mm. The results showed that the dependence of inlet pressure on the mass flux follows a power law in subsonic jets and a linear law in sonic jets. The effect of nozzle submerged depth was negligible. The isolated bubbling regime, continuous bubbling regime, transition regime, and jetting regime were observed in turn, as the mass flux increased. In the bubbling regime and jetting regime, the air volume fraction distribution was approximately symmetric in space. Themelis model could capture the jet trajectory well. In the transition regime, the air volume fraction distribution loses symmetry due to the bifurcated secondary plume. The Li correlation and Themelis model showed sufficient accuracy for the prediction of jet penetration length.
