Acceleration Estimation of a Steel Plate Girder Bridge using Multiplexed FBG Sensors (다중화된 광섬유센서를 이용한 강철도교의 가속도 유추)

  • This study presents an experimental technique to monitor the dynamic behavior of the railway bridge system simultaneously using multiplexed fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. The measuring quantities include stains, curvatures, vertical deflections, and vertical accelerations. The strains are directly measured from multiplexed FBG sensors at various locations of the test bridge followed by curvature calculations based on the plane section assumption. Vertical deflections are then estimated using the Bernoulli beam theory and regression analysis. Finally, vertical accelerations are obtained from the numerical differentiation in time domain. In order to verify the proposed method, several conventional electric strain gauges, displacement transducers, and accelerometers are installed at the mid-span of the bridge for comparisons. A test train is passed over the bridge to monitor the dynamic response of the bridge. The monitoring results show that the multiplexed FBG sensing system is able to capture the essential behavior of the test bridge while resolving wiring problem in practice.

Comparative study on displacement measurement sensors for high-speed railroad bridge

  • This paper presents a comparative study of displacement measurement using four sensors that are being used in the field: they are a ring gauge, a laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV), a vision-based displacement measurement system (VDMS), and an optoelectronic displacement meter (ODM). The comparative study was carried out on a brand-new high-speed railroad bridge designed to produce displacements within a couple of millimeters under the loading of a high-speed train. The tests were carried out on a single-span steel plate girder bridge two times with different train loadings: KTX and HEMU. The measured displacement is compared as raw and further discussion was made on the measurement noise, peak displacement, and frequency response of four sensors. The comparisonsare summarized to show the pros and cons of the used sensors in measuring displacement at a typical high-speed railroad bridge.

  • This study is on safety improvement measures through analysis of accident cases during plant storage tank construction. Storage tank is a general term for artificial ground facility constructed to store oil, water, gas, and other chemicals. Some companies have clustered storage tanks (tank farm). The construction methods vary according to the component and types of fluids. Because most of the construction procedures include lifting heavy weight materials using heavy construction equipment and are carried out at high places, storage tank construction contains more risk factors than normal aerial construction. Recently, major accidents such as storage tank collapse have occurred often, and cost many lives due to the characteristics of the structure. In this study we would like to analyze the cause of these accidents and propose measures to improve safety.

  • The natural period calculation equations specified in the current building code are empirical formulas that depend on height and material type of the structure. Building with the upper wall and lower frame type is a unique structure which composed of two different structural system This type of structure needs either the deep transfer girder or the thick transfer plate that brings the sudden change of stiffness and mass. Therefore the natural period equations recommended by the current code can not be applied directly. In this study the natural period of building with typical plan obtained by dynamci analysis is compared with that of various codes. Ad approximate estimation equation for the natural period of building with the upper wall and lower frame type obtained by regression analysis is recommended. by the current code can not be applied directly.   • An acoustic finite element model of a bridge is developed to evaluate the noise generated by the traffic-induced vibration of the bridge. The dynamic response of a multi-girder bridge, modeled by a 3-dimensional frame element model, is analyzed with a 3-axle 8 DOFs truck model and a 5-axle 13 DOFs semi-trailer. The flat plate element is used to analyze the acoustic pressure due to the fluid-structure interactions between the vibrating surface and contiguous acoustic fluid medium. The radiation fields of noise with a specified distribution of vibrating velocity and pressure on the structural surface are also computed using the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral. Although the noise produced by the bridge vibration is not serious in itself, which is below the audible frequency range, it should be considered as an interaction problem between vehicle noise and bridge vibration noise in order to evaluate the traffic noise around the bridge.

  • This paper describes Genetic Algorithm-Based Relay Search Method, RS-GA, which is developed in this study to search the multiple design variables in the design space. The RS-GA based on Simple-GA consists of some functions to search many variables from some wide variable space. It repeats a Simple-GA, that is the convergence process of the Simple-GA, which makes many time reiteration itself. From the results of the numerical studies, it was actually found that RS-GA can search all peak-variable from the 2D functions including 5 peaks. Finally, RS-GA applied for design-strengthening problems in composite plate girder bridges using the external prestressing technique is also verified.

  • 본 연구는 고강도 강재를 적용한 연속교 형식의 강교량에 대하여 연구를 수행하였다. 교량에 사용되는 주구조의 고강도화에 따로 연속교의 교각 부근 부모멘트부에는 정모멘트부에 비하여 큰 모멘트가 작용하게 된다. 또한 정모멘트 구간과 달리 상부플랜지에 인장력이 작용하게 되어 완공 후에도 극한 하중 상태에서 콘크리트 데크가 응력을 부담할 수 없게 된다. 이에 따라 하부 플랜지에 불안정 파괴가 발생할 가능성이 있으며 비합성 단면과 같은 방법으로 설계하게 된다. 또한 모멘트 재분배를 고려한 설계를 하기 위해서는 부모멘트부에 충분한 휨 연성이 필요하다. 고강도 강재를 적용한 교량은 일반강재를 적용한 교량에 비하여 휨연성이 감소하게 되므로 휨연성 확보를 위한 보강방안이 필요하다. 본 연구는 부모멘트부의 휨연성 향상을 휘하여 가로보의 부등 배치를 제안하였으며, 유한요소해석 결과 휨연성이 향상되었다.

  • The influences of high speed train on the dynamic responses of steel composite railway bridges are investigated. The bridge system which has two Ⅰ-girder and several cross beams is modeled with plate and frame elements. With assumption of concrete slabs ate fully connected with steel girders, the offset between slabs and girders is modeled using rigid link. The track system is modeled using beams on elastic foundation theory. And, the TGV train is modeled in 2-dimension considering bouncing and pitching motion. And, braking action of vehicle is considered using speed dependent braking function. To investigate the behavior of bridges due to moving trains, parametric studies are performed.

  • In order to evaluate that factors such as span length, member type and train loading affected on fatigue of steel railway bridges, in this paper, a series of field tests were carried out for some plate girder bridges. From the result estimated by rainflow counting method to analyze real strain-time curve obtained from the field test, it was known that the fatigue effect is more significant in the bridges having short span length and the secondary members regardless of train load types.

  • 강철도 플레이트거더교의 경우 일반적으로 레일의 폭보다 거더 사이의 폭이 넓기 때문에 거더에 편심이 작용하게 된다. 이러한 편심 영향으로 거더 내측 상부플랜지에 휨변형이 일어나게 되어, 상부플랜지와 수직보강재 용접이음부에 반복하중에 의한 피로균열이 발생되고 있는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 공용중인 강철도 플레이트거더교를 대상교량으로 하여 공용하중에 대한 구조해석을 실시하였다. 대상교량에 대한 현장계측을 기초로 구조모델링을 검증하였고, 검증된 구조모델링을 사용하여 열차하중 하에서의 상부플랜지와 수직보강재 용접연결부에서의 피로균열 보강방안에 대한 구조해석을 실시하였다. 또한 상부플랜지와 수직보강재 용접이음부 상세해석을 통하여 피로균열 발생위치를 확인하고 연결이음부의 적절한 보강방안을 제시하고자 한다.
