  • This Paper deals with the experimental study of the axisymmetric air jet impinging vertically on the flat heating surface with and without swirl. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of flow, augmentation of heat transfer rate, turbulent intensity, and the comparison of heat transfer rate, the optimal swirling condition about the swirl and nonswirl axisymmetric air jet. In order to augment the heat transfer on the flat heating surface without introducing any additional power, the technique used in the present work was placement of twisted tape inserted pipe in front of the nozzle exit in order to make a swirl. The effect of swirl degree is investigated in case of S=0., 0.056, 0.111, 0.222 and the velocity of the jet was 14, 20, 26, 32, 38, 44m/s. The distance between the nozle exit and the stagnation point on the impinging plate was the H/D=$1{\sim}14$. In order to analyze of the flow structure which increase heat transfer, the velocity and the turbulent intensity of the axisymmetric jet was measured by a hot wire anemometer according to the swirl number and H/D.

  • This paper describes the method of efficient container number recognition in colored container image with number plate at ATC(Automatic Transfer Crane) in container terminal yard. At the Sinseondae terminal gate in Busan, the container number recognition system is installed by "intelligent port-logistics system technology development", that is government research and development project. It is the method that it sets up the tunnel structure inside camera on the gate and it recognizes the container number in order to recognize the export container cargo automatically. However, as the automation equipment is introduced to the container terminal and the unmanned of a task is gradually accomplished, the container number recognition system for the confirmation of the object of work is required at ATC in container terminal yard. Therefore, the container number recognition system fitted for it is necessary for ATC in container terminal yard in which there are many intrusive of the character recognition through image including a sunlight, rain, snow, shadow, and etc. unlike the gate. In this paper, hardware components of the camera, illumination, and sensor lamp were altered and software elements of an algorithm were changed. that is, the difference of the brightness of the surrounding environment, and etc. were regulated for recognize a container number. Through this, a shadow problem, and etc. that it is thickly below hung with the sunlight or the cargo equipment were solved and the recognition time was shortened and the recognition rate was raised.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of a horse riding simulator, gym ball, and McKenzie exercises on back pain and static balance. METHODS: Among 30 participants with chronic back pain and more than 5 points of ODI, 28 participants were selected. Groups of performing either horse riding, gym ball, or McKenzie were chosen randomly to work out two times a week for six weeks. The static balance was measured using a gym plate and the degree of pain was measured by the VAS and K-ODI. RESULTS: When each exercise was applied to back pain patients, the VAS was changed in all three groups but only in the gym-ball exercise group. The K-ODI varied in all three groups but not in the gym-ball exercise group, In the anterior - posterior static balance, all three groups showed changes, but only the riding exercise group was not significant. In the left-right static balance, all three groups were significant. CONCLUSION: This study showed that six-week exercise for back pain patients was effective in improving back pain and balance ability. Continuous exercise minimizes the risk of recurrence and is effective in preventing and treating back pain.

  • The experimental studies were performed to observe the characteristics of the myelinated nerve fibers of the tradiaphragmatic branches of phrenic nerves in dog In the work to be reported five mixed breed Korean dog were used, they were one year old and he body eights were about 12 Kgm. in average with healthy conditions. The specimens (nerve) were taken at the point of 1.5 cm posterior part from the left and right phrenic nerves entrance to the diaphragm, and the dorso-lateral and dorso-medial branches of phrenic nerves vere also, taken at the point of 0.5 cm distal part from their branching portion. The specimens were fixed for 24 hrs. in Flemming's solution, and embedded in paraffin. The paraffin section. were cut at 6 microns and stained with Walter's modification of Weigert-pal method for the myelinated fibers. Microphotographs were taken and enlarged into 750 times of the actual size, and the diameter of the photographic images of the myelinated fibers were measured by the scale on the transparent Percepex Plate. The following conclusions were made: 1. The percentage of distribution of the several intradiaphragmatic branches of phrenic nerves were as follows. Ventral branches were 34.97%, lateral branches were 37.90%, dorsal branches were 27.13%, and the dorsal branches were branched again into dorso-lateral branches(54.22%) and dorso-medial branches (45. 78%). 2. The mean value and S.D. of the total numbers of the myelinated nerve fibers at the left ventral branches were $490.80{\pm}12$, and at the right ventral branches were $486.6{\pm}13$. Total average cross sectional area on the left ventral branches were 38,000. $6{\pm}136{\mu}^2$, and the right ventral branches were $37,150.2{\pm}1.782{\mu}^2$. 3. The mean value and S.D. of the total numbers of the myelinated nerve fibers at the left lateral branches were $533.8{\pm}8$, and at the right lateral branches were $525.6{\pm}7$. Total average cross sectional area of the left lateral branches were $41,582{\pm}1,170{\mu}^2$, and the right lateral branches were $40,454.8{\pm}812{\mu}^2$. 4. • Ueda, in the course of his systematic work on the lavers, Porphyra, in Japan and Korea in 1932, mentioned that most of the cultivated Porphyra belong to Porphyra tenera Kjellman. Then he, dividing the species into two forms, f. typica and f. kjellmani, put Korean cultivated Porphyra under the latter. From the 1930s to the early 1940s, Fujikawa, Kaneko and others worked on Physiological experiments or cultivational experiments of Porphyra in the culture-bed, but there was no mention about the cultivated Porphyra species. However, many fishermen generally recognize that the characteristics of cultivated Porphyra vary depending on their habitat or the picking season, and it is considered that these differences are due to the varieties of the species which are well adaptable to various environments. Recently, I have become aware of the predominant occurrence of P. yezoensis Ueda in most culture-beds of Korea as in the Tokyo Bay or other places in Japan. At present, since artificial seeding for the cultivation of Porphyra with Conchocelis has been carried out and peculiar species can be cultured, a study of the species of cultivated Porphyra has become an important subject. I collected the specimens from a number of culture-beds which are located in the legions shown in fig. 1 from January, 1968 to May, 1970 and found that there are five species, P. tenera Kjellman, P. yezoensis Ueda, P. kuniedai Kurogi, P. seriata Kjellman and P. suborbiculata Kjellman. Among them, P. kuniedai was treated as a round-type, a form of P. tenera, by Kunieda (1939) and Tanaka (1952) and the occurrence of this form is generally recognized by most fishermen. At present, as mentioned above, the most dominant species of cultivated Porphyra is P. yezoensis but the cultivation of P. tenera is restricted to certain culture-beds or the early half of the cultivation period. P. kunieda appears as a mixed species throughout most of the culture-beds, particulary in the later half of the period, while when it was picked in January it appeared dominantly in a place such as Gum-Dang where the 'Bal', splitted bamboo piece mat, was settled during the last of September. This is the first seeding process. The latter two species, P. suborbiculata and P. seriata appear frequently but in small amounts in the later half of the period particulary in the western region of the southern coast. However, it can not be ascertained when P. yezoensis becomes predominant, because specimens have not been available up until recent years but the process can be described as follows: We commonly recognize the ecological characteristics of P. tenera as follows; First, the conchospores of the species develop earlier and the period of its discharge is shorter than those of P. yezoensis; second, the microscopical buds discharge neutral spores which develop into new buds directly and buds develop repeatedly through a short period. Consequently, according to such above ecological characteristics, the species can grow thick on the 'Bal' exclusively. However, buds may disappear when they are harmed by disease such a 'infection by certain parasites or by other unusual environmental conditions. Thus P. yezoensis are enabled to grow on the 'Bal' instead of the former species since they not only develop later than the former but also macroscopical fronds discharge the neutral spore throughout the period from October to May. Likewise, if any disease appears in the culture-bed ill the later half of the period, the former is more severely damaged than the latter because the former have less resistance to the disease than the latter. Thus fewer frond survive and fewer carpospores which are the origin of the next generation can be discharged. However the latter by their nature can continue growing until early summer. In the case of the culture-bed where the above phenomenon occurs repeatedly P. yezoensis gradually may become the dominant species among cultivated Porphyra. In support of the validity of this process we find that according to the description and the plate of Wada (1941), P. tenera, P. yezoensis and P. kuniedai grow together in the culture-bed at the mouth of the Nakdong River where P. yezoensis occurs predominantly and mixed with P. kuniedai.

  • To detect ischemic tissue in experimental model of cerebral ischemia made by middle cerebral artery(MCA)-occlusion, we acquired triple image of $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate, [$^{18}F$]fluoro-deoxyglucose (FDG), and 2,3,5- triphenyltetrazolium (TTC) staining. We made cerebral infarction either with reperfusion (after occlusion of 2 hours) or without reperfusion in 10 Sprague-Dawley rats by inserting thread to MCA through internal carotid artery. After 22 hours, we injected 740 MBq of $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate and 55.5 MBq of [$^{18}F$]FDG through tail vein. Each 1 mm slice of rat brains was frozen and exposed to imaging plate for 20 minutes in freezer to get an [$^{18}F$]FDG image. After 20 hours enough to fade radioactivity of [$^{18}F$]FDG, the slices were again imaged by BAS1500 for $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate uptake. Finally, these brain tissues were stained with TTC. Semi-quantitative visual analysis was done by grading 0 to 3 points according to the degree of uptakes($^{99m}Tc$-glucarate) and decreased uptakes([$^{18}F$]FDG and TTC). Ten rats survived with neurologic symptoms. TTC staining confirmed the development of infarction. The size of the infarction was relatively larger in the group without reperfusion. [$^{18}F$]FDG images were similar to TTC-stained images. However, we found regions with intermediate uptake which were not stained with TTC. We found regions with intermediate [$^{18}F$]FDG uptake where TTC staining was normal. $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate uptake was round only in TTC non-stained region. In the TTC stained regions, there were no uptake of $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate. We could not find clear relation between $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate uptake with [$^{18}F$]FDG uptake. This was partly because percent uptake of $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate was so small (less than 1 percent of injected dose) and because there were quite heterogeneity of patterns of [$^{18}F$]FDG uptake and TTC. With these findings, we could conclude that $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate were taken up only in part of ischemic tissues which were proven to be nonviable. The establishment of MCA-occluded rat model with or without reperfusion and triple imaging for $^{99m}Tc,\;^{18}F$ and TTC helped the characterization of $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate uptakes. Further work is needed to clarify the meaning or diversities or [$^{18}F$]FDG and TTC and their relation with $^{99m}Tc$-glucarate.

  • Soil compaction is one of the most important activities in the area of civil works, including road construction, airport construction, port construction and backfilling construction of structures. Soil compaction, particularly in road construction, can be categorized into subgrade compaction and roadbed compaction, and is significant work that when done poorly can serve as a factor causing poor construction due to a lack of compaction. Currently, there are many different types of compaction tests, and the plate bearing test and the unit weight of soil test based on the sand cone method are commonly used to measure the degree of compaction, but many other methods are under development as it is difficult to secure economic efficiency. For the purpose of this research, a portable penetration meter called the Free-Fall Penetration Test (FFPT) was developed and manufactured. In this study, a homogeneous sample was obtained from the construction site and soil was classified through a sieve analysis test in order to perform grain size analysis and a specific gravity test for an indoor test. The principle of FFPT is that the penetration needle installed at the tip of an object put into free fall using gravity is used to measure the depth of penetration into the road surface after subgrade or roadbed compaction has been completed; the degree of compaction is obtained through the unit weight of soil test according to the sand cone method and the relationship between the degree of compaction and the depth of the penetration needle is verified. The maximum allowable grain size of soil is 2.36 mm. For $A_1$ compaction, a trend line was developed using the result of the test performed from a drop height of 10 cm, and coefficient of determination of the trend line was $R^2=0.8677$, while for $D_2$ compaction, coefficient of determination of the trend line was $R^2=0.9815$ when testing at a drop height of 20 cm. Free fall test was carried out with the drop height adjusted from 10 cm to 50 cm at increments of 10 cm. This study intends to compare and analyze the correlation between the degree of compaction obtained from the unit weight of soil test based on the sand cone method and the depth of penetration of the penetration needle obtained from the FFPT meter. As such, it is expected that a portable penetration tester will make it easy to test the degree of compaction at many construction sites, and will lead to a reduction in time, equipment, and manpower which are the disadvantages of the current degree of compaction test, ultimately contributing to accurate and simple measurements of the degree of compaction as well as greater economic feasibility.

  • Korean verse has flexibly changed its form and contents according to the historical background of the times. This fact arouses reader sympathy because it has reflected ideas, historical aspects and realities of the times. However, korean verse has kept its own characteristics in some ways, allowing it to exist today. It holds its form as 3 verses of three by three or four meter and three letters of the last of three verses. It makes every different version which has specific aspects of each times in the same 'sijo' area. 'Sijo' in Korean poems, is the first form that has been changed from formal to private functionally. As a result of that common verses in the Goryeo to Joseon eras were going with the stream of the times. Verse was the plate for justice so that there was no double meaning, symbols, or technical sentences. It had to show the idea of Myungchundo Jwonginryun. The theme was commonly fitted within certain areas. such as blessings, fidelity, devotion, etc. Around the end of the Joseon era, there was activation of private verses - a form of sijo with no restrictions on the length of the first two verses. Some ideas had been changed because Sarimpa gained power, domestic conflict, and the introduction of practical science. These things had an effect on the form of Sijo. After all, it shows the ideas of collapsing feudalism, resistance of confucian ideas, equality of the sexes, and opposition to the group who rule the government. Thus Sasul Sijo seems to have the tendency of resistance to reality. It was a specialty of realism poetry It explained our life in detail and reflected real life by being an intermediary of realism. This met and represented the demand of a reader's expectations. After 1905, there was new form of sijo that is very different, in form and content, from the previous versions. It was even different in areas of what people accepted. They started to think sijo was not the form of lyrical verse that is once was. It became a 'record of reading'. The form changed to 'hung or huhung' that satirized the times and the ending of a word in the last verse. Although this form could deliver the tension in statement, it was too iu from the original form. Therefore, it didn't last long, and its position got smaller because of the free verse that had western influence and was emerging in the times. In the middle of 1920, there was a movement of Sijo revival. It was lead by Choinamsun. He wrote poems and Sijo which were effected by western ideas in his early works. Although he worked with that, he took the lead in the movement of Sijo revival. He published the collection of Sijo $\ulcorner$Baekpalbunnwoi$\lrcorner$ that has one major theme-patriotic sentiment. He thought an ancient poem was a part of racial characteristics so that he expressed the main theme which represented the times and situations of his era. Modern Sijo is difficult. Sijo has to have modern and Korean verse characteristics at the same time. If it considers a modern aspect too much, it could not be distinguished from sijo and free verse. If it overly leans toward Sijo. it would seem to be too conservative which it then could be said to have no real charm of a poem. In spite of these problems, it is written constantly, because it has its own specialty. It has been focused on some works because they reflect awareness of modern times, the democratic idea, and realism. Overall, the authors of Modern Sijo express various themes by using different forms. The more what we can guess in this work, Sijo will exist permanently because of its flexibility. Furthermore, one special characteristic-flexibility of the korean verse will make it last forever and it will be a genre in Korean poetry.
