Two test methods, nonrepetitive plate loading test (NPLT) and repetitive plate loading test (RPLT) are being used to control the quality of compaction through the evaluation of the stiffness of subgrade soils in the Korea railway industry. Subgrade reaction modulus ($k_{30}$) from the NPLT and strain modulus ($E_v$) from the RPLT are the index values to check them. The methods have similar aspects, but they differ in the modulus evaluation method, the numbers of loading stage, termination procedures, etc. This paper analyses the differences of the two test methods and evaluates the relationship between subgrade reaction modulus and strain modulus. In order to develop the relationship, total 22 tests were performed including the NPLT and the RPLT at the 6 original grounds, and 5 upper or lower subgrades in Kyungbu High Speed Railway II stage construction sites. According to the soil conditions, the relationship between subgrade reaction modulus and strain modulus was proposed with corrections by considering strain states, mean confining pressures, and Poisson's ratio.
The strengthening of reinforced concrete structures using externally bonded steel or advanced fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) composites is becoming increasingly common. A key factor affecting the behaviour and reliability of such strengthened structures is the bond strength between the steel or FRP plate and the concrete substrate. Several different experimental set-ups have previously been used to determine bond strength. This paper presents a careful finite element analysis of the stress distributions in these test set-ups. Results show that stress distributions can be significantly different for different set-ups, for similar materials and geometry.

An experimental study was performed to evaluate the in-plate evaporation heat transfer and flow characteristics of a evaporator used in automobile. Two test-cores with different heat transfer area, bead-shape and bead-array were tested, A type and B type. For the heat transfer, Nusselt number for B type test-core reaches a value nearly equal to the one for A type test-core, in the whole range of equivalent Reynolds number. But, for the same mass flow rate of refrigerant, hA for B type test-core becomes higher with the increase of the mass quality of refrigerant than for A type test-core. In a flow visualization experiment, the wake zone of refrigerant circulating at u-turn position of plate is observed.
The internal erosion due to poor compaction of the material was the main cause of collapse of the embankment in Korea. The assessment of the compaction state of the dam body was a very important check in the safety diagnosis of the embankment. In this study, the correlation between dynamic cone penetration test and plate loading test which is the most typical compaction evaluation technique was analyzed to verify the applicability of the dynamic cone penetration test in evaluating the compaction state of the dam body. The standard penetration tests were carried out six times to define soil properties and depth of the test site. The spatial distributions were obtained by the Kriging method after 15 times of plate loading tests and 47 times of dynamic cone penetration tests. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the spatial distribution of the plate loading test and the dynamic cone penetration test spatial distribution at the constant penetration depth was calculated. The load distribution in the plate loading test and the blow counts at penetration depths of 5 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm in the dynamic cone penetration test showed a weak positive correlation.
In order to establish a sensitive and specific diagnostic method for detection of antibody to Salmonella pullorum, a enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was designed and standardized. The diagnostic efficacy of the established ELISA was compared with that of the serum plate agglutination test and immunodiffusion test for pullorum disease. 1. The chicken hyperimmune sera to Salmonella pullorum, S gallinarum, S typhimurium and S typhi were shown the cross reaction to S pullorum antigen by serum plate agglutination test. 2. When compared the cross reaction titer of microplate agglutination test for chickens hyperimmune sera, it was found that the titer were 64 in S pullorum, 32 in S gallinarum, 4 in S typhimurium and 8 in S typhi, respectively. 3. When compared the specificity of various antigen(HA, EA, PA and SA) by the immunodiffusion test, the most suitable antigen was phenol-treated bactrium. 4. The optimal concentration of S pullorum antigen for ELISA was 1 : 160 dilution of bacterium. 5. The efficacy of the ELISA for detection of S pullorum antibody was compared with serum Plate agglutination test and immunodiffusion test in chickens infected with S pullorum. The antibody was first detected at 6 days after infection using three tests examined. The antibody was alldetected at 9 days by ELISA, at 12 days by serumplate agglutination test, at 15 days by immunodiffusion test.

This study was performed to obtain a numerical model for a viscous fluid damper from an experimental testing. The input signals for displacement were chosen as two types : a triangular and a sinusoidal forms. The performing test parameters were the area of the resistant plate, relative velocity between resistant plate and base plate, oil film thickness of the viscous fluid, but the temperature effect was neglected. The numerical model was established by assuming an non-Newtonian fluid behavior. The test results were summarized by the equation of F= 0.0308(ν/d)0.5125. Using the obtained for a real structure design was introduced.
This study was conducted to assess the vibration capacity and the fire resistance capacity of a deck plate slab using an omega steel plate as the void deck plate. First, to evaluate the vibration capacity of the deck plate slab after the insertion of the omega steel plate, three 150mm specimens and three 200mm specimens were made using the slab depth as the main variable. Each specimen consisted of an existing deck plate and two specimens, using the topping depth as the variable according to the slab depth. Second, two real-size specimens were made to evaluate the fire resistance capacity. The results of the test showed that the steel-wire-integrated deck plate slab that was inserted in the omega steel plate did not have a vibration problem due to the void deck plate, because the natural frequency was 12.66-14.09 Hz in the vibration test, and each specimen satisfied the appraisal standards for the load capacity, heat block quality, and chloride inhibition for two hours in the fire resistance test. Consequently, the steel-wire-integrated deck plate slab that was inserted in the omega steel plate can be reduced using the concrete volume and can have higher vibration and fire resistance capacities, similar to the existing deck plate.
An experimental investigation into the uplift capacity of horizontal square plate anchors in sand with and without geogrid reinforcement is reported. The parameters investigated are the effect of the depth of the single layer of geogrid, vertical spacing of geogrid layers, number of geogrid layers, length of geogrid layers, the effects of embedment depth, and relative density of sand. A series of three dimensional finite element analyses model was established and confirmed to be effective in capturing the behaviour of plate anchor-reinforced sand by comparing its predictions with experimental results. The results showed that the geogrid reinforcement had a considerable effect on the uplift capacity of horizontal square plate anchors in sand. The improvement in uplift capacity was found to be strongly dependent on the embedment depth and relative density of sand. A satisfactory agreement between the experimental and numerical results on general trend of behaviour and optimum geometry of reinforcement placement is observed. Based on the model test results and the finite element analyses, optimum values of the geogrid parameters for maximum reinforcing effect are discussed and suggested.

This paper deals with the problem of plate separation and anchorage at the ends of steel plates strengthened by EBSP. Test results show that the reinforced concrete beams strengthened by EBSP occurs the premature failure without the beams achieving their full flexural strength at the end of plates. The premature failure is the cause of stress concentrations in the adhesive layer of plate, reinforced concrete incase of lack of plate length. Then a simple, approximate procedure for predicting the shear and normal stress concentrations is investigated by Robert's the ory based on partial interaction theory. The theoretical results are compared, and show close agreement with test results. A method is derived for determining the plate length that prevents the premature anchorage zone failure
Many processes have been introduced to join PE pipes, but most of these methods have lots of disadvantages such as costs and lack of reliability, etc. Recently due to the benefits of cost, safety and reliability, the butt welding has been paid much attention to joint PE pipes. In case of butt welding, the heat plate which is used to melt PE pipes is the most critical equipment. In this study, after developing the heat plate of new shape, the PE double wall pipes with misalignments were butt-welded by using the conventional and developed heat plates and comparison of weld-zones and tensile test was performed. As the results of tensile test, weld-zones using developed heat plate have strength of $147.7{\sim}251.0%$ of weld-zones using conventional heat plate.
